Mar 23, 2008I have been getting the blue screen of death w/reboot alot with my Vista box..I have d'loaded the tool to read the mini*.dmp files but it will not give me access. I suspect it is my ethernet card drive but I cannot tell. I always crash while on the internet and under load. The manufacturer of the box updated the ethernet driver without any change to the crashing. How can I read this file ??? can I send this (these) files to someone that can decipher them?

Dec 29, 2007I have an external Maxtor dvd/cd rom and each time I try to copy a file to a dvd/or cd it tells me that the disc is corrupt, and/or empty/or that it doesn't like any brand I try to insert.I have installed the Vista Home Basic version.Do I need a special driver for that or can one of the correction programs fix it?

"You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?"
I have a lot of data stored on this drive and i don't know why it suddenly appears empty. I don't want to lose all of the data already saved on this disk. What should i do?
Maxtor Basic External Hd Access Denied
Sep 16, 2008I recentley purchased a new compaq sr5401uk pc with vista home premium 32bit, i have a maxtor basic 500 gig external hd when i plug this into the usb vista recognises the maxtor hd & gives it a letter it also shows up in my computer under that letter but when i click the icon it says :" j:/is not accessible - access denied"
This external hd worked perfectly fine on my previous pc which was running windows xp it has over 30,000 music files on it which i have been collecting for years & i WILL be devastated if i lose them!!..ive been a total numbskull & not backed them up

I'm hoping that the problems were software rather than hardware related, and if that's the case, it might be malware related. However, it occurred to me that there might be another way that I could have messed up my system. I use Ccleaner pretty regularly to clean up the registry, mostly a habit I developed on XP machines, and I've never had a problem. But I was listening to Leo LaPorte the other day and he said he doesn't touch his registry with cleaners because of the problems it causes.

May 28, 2008Microsoft has just announced that MS-Windows 7 (I like the name Borg) will have a touch screen feature to it. We know that from the Longhorn/Vista over promising and then cutting features out like WINFS. So if MS really wants a late 2009 early 2010 release will MS cut features again just to get it out the door? Or will Windows 7 really just be Windows Vista 1.2 ie service pack 2 of Vista.
I think it will be just Vista Service pack 2 with a few newer features for newer devices. MS knows people hate vista but i love it since i can now cheat at solitare and when you copy files and a file is in use it now asks you what you want it to do instead of just crapping out on you.

Mar 23, 2008I am user of vista 64 bit ultimate until I upgraded to iPod touch. Touch is not recognized by vista (64bit) and says I need a 64 bit iTunes s/we. This has really put me in a dilemma. I use dual boot with WINXP Pro and Vista 64 bit ultimate. I have been using the dual boot to XP occasionally for using my digital camera as there are no 64 bit vista drivers for it. My iPod touch works fine under XP and now I have to use the XP all the time to use iTunes/iPod touch. Anyone has any thoughts/clues on when there will be support for vista 64 bit from apple? Options I can considering are to re-install 32 bit version of vista which will solve the iPod problem; I guess MS will not allow me to dual boot 32 bit and 64 bit on the same machine?

Jun 30, 2008when I tried to connect to Itunes from my computer the device was not automatically recognized by Itunes. Instead I got Vista's Autoplay menu which gave me the following three options:
- Import pictures using windows
- Open Device Using Windows Explorer
- Take no action
When I go to the device manager and I look at the properties of my Ipod (under Portable Devices) I found that the Device Assembly Description is Digital Still Camera. Consistent with this when I look at the Ipod at My Computer it shows an icon of a camera. This issue has happened now with two different Ipod Touch devices, but does not happen with other Ipod models (nano or Video). how to change the device properties?

I first used the digital locker a few times and it would stop at 99 percent and give a validation error. I figured it the locker was having a problem so i manual downloaded the three files through my internet browser. Nov 24, 2009I'm struggling to find a clear answer on this. Within our environment, we've been ordering Dell PCs for quite some time. I've been told that about midway through the ordering of Dell GX620 Optiplexes that the cores went from single to dual. In effect, I've been advised that these machines and, subsequently everything we've ordered since, are considered 64bit compatible because they have two 32bit cores. Does that sound accurate? What I truly need to know is whether or not any of our PCs (Dell 745, 755 and 760 E8400 Core 2 Duo for desktop; P8400 for laptop) have 64bit hardware. If two 32bit cores mean that they're 64bit compatible, is that the same as being true 64bit? And, last but not least, will 64bit compatible hardware (assuming it's different than 64bit hardware) run a 64bit OS like Windows 7?

Dec 18, 2008i have been running xp pro and decided to try vista ultimate 64bit. the installation went very smoothly. i immediately loaded super pi and 3dmark06 to compare benchmark scores with xp pro. i was surprised to see that the vista scores were 10 to 15% slower. i loaded the latest gpu drivers and loaded the motherboard drivers from the installation disk.
should vista score less than xp pro or is there something i can do to correct this.

Feb 16, 2010I have setup a home networking with 2 vista machines. One is 32bit OS and the other one is 64bit OS. I set up the workgroup, turned on File & Print Sharing, created shares on both PC's and gave permissions. From the 64bit Vista PC, it's working perfectly fine. I can see, connect and use the files. But from the 32bit os pc, I can see the 64bit pc and the "Network". But I cannot explore nor Map a Drive to 64bit PC.

Jul 3, 2008I just did a clean install of Vista 64 Home Premium and have run into a strange problem. I cannot log in to the XFX Support website using either 32 or 64 bit IE7 on the Vista machine. I can log in fine using an XP machine. Further when I tried to fill in the form to d/l the office 2007 trial version so I could import my mail folder from my backup disk into Vista Mail the form would reset everytime I selected the US as my country (was my only option, I assume since I had already input my state). In Firefox the form would appear to reload when I chose US but would keep everything I'd typed in as well as saving that I chose US. IE7 just wiped out all the text boxes and reset the country to choose country.
Needless to say since it blanked the form every time I couldn't get the trial initially. I've somewhat bypassed the problem by installing and using Firefox 3 which is not having either of these problems. The install was a clean install with nothing more than Vista, drivers and updates installed. P.S. I tried the IE7 group but they seemed to think I should post in the Vista groups
HP 64bit Freezing
Jan 19, 2009I just recently upgraded from Windows Home Premium 32bit to the 64bit version and I am having problems with it randomly freezing. The freeze up usually occurs when I am installing a program, just starting to download a file, and even sometimes when I am surfing the web. When my system freezes it like everything locks up...mouse, keyboard, HDD, monitor...everything. The only way to restore my system is a hard boot. I had no problems with Vista 32 bit and it ran well for almost a year so I have a feeling it is a software problem.....Not sure what is causing the freeze ups…sometimes it will run for hours and then freeze sometimes it will freeze 5min after I boot it up…seems to always happen when I’m doing something in windows…
