How Verify TCP/IP Address For Shared Drive?

Aug 22, 2009

I have a shortcut to access a local network shared external drive. It shows an address of \192.168.1.4 This shortcut generally fails with "192.168.1.4Public is not accessable. You may not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the administrator fo this device to find out if you have access permission". Sometimes it works and gives me the opportunity to enter the admin name and password. I can access the drive with Windows Explorer using the Network entry in explorer. How can I verify the if address in the shortcut is correct?

Shared Drive On XPx64-SP1 Not Accessible Thru LAN

Mar 28, 2009

I am getting error messages when attempting to open a shared drive on XPx64-sp1 machine from Vistax64-sp2rc machine: Open Folder. ULTRA-WX64DTs01i (D) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command. There are 5 machines in the LAN which are WX64-sp1, WX86-sp3, WV86-sp1, WV64-sp2rc, and W7x64. There is no problem among the latter 4 machines but a shared drive on WX64 can not be accessed from any of the latter 4 machines. There is no problem with RDC to the WX64 from any other machine.

I attempted to install on the WX64, Link Layer Topology Discovery(LLTD) Responder, KB922120, but an error message said that this is for different hardware platform, and could not install it. I noticed that the system event log showed system event ID of 2011. MS KB article says that resolution for this problem is modifying IRPStackSize value, so I did, but no go. The problem may be due to my dumb mistake or oversight somewhere.

External (USB) Drive No Longer Shared After Reconnect

Mar 23, 2008

Have successfully setup sharing through my router -- internal drives and one USB external drive (Western Digital Passport). The network consists of 2 computers running Vista Home Premium and 1 running W2K-Pro; and a Linksys wireless router. After applying the required 'shares' and 'permissions' to the USB external drive (which is connected to one of the Vista systems), I was able to see and modify all files on the external; which is what I wanted. When done, I disconnected the USB drive (using the "Safely Remove Hardware" utility), since I routinely take that drive to anothe site.

The next day I reconnected the USB external to the same Vista system as before. But although the internal drives could still be seen across the network, the USB drive could not. In fact, when I check Properties / Sharing, it now shows as "Not Shared". For what it's worth, that drive displays as the same drive letter as it did originally. This may not be a Vista issue. It may be due to the drive being USB connected. Just don't know. Haven't been able to find a reference to this issue in the Microsoft Community groups or generally on the internet.

Cannot Verify Email

May 19, 2010

I'm trying to retrieve a "reset password" link for another forum. However, the address the reset link was sent to is for some reason demanding I verify my username and password, which means that until I do I cannot recieve the reset link. However I do not know the username or password, and all my guesses were rejected. To test I tried to make a new account where I knew both username and password, but it rejected those as well even though they were correct. Whatever I put in, the window automatically pops back up. Now for some reason I can't even test the new account at all, as even if I try to check mail for the new account, it demands I verify the info for the old account instead (bizzare)

Verify You Have Signed Drivers

Aug 19, 2007

Are you having hardware issues with Windows Vista? Almost all Windows Vista issues such as blue screen and random reboots are caused by third-party driver problems.  Microsoft signs device drivers that they test and certify that the driver meet certain quality levels.  Using Microsoft certified drivers greatly reduces your chances of having driver related issues. However, often applications will install drivers that were not certified by Microsoft and those can cause issues.  To check the installed drivers on your computer you can use a cool utility called the Driver Verifier Manager. This is a hidden tool in Windows Vista that can help you identify potentially bad drivers.

Click on the Start Button, key in verifier and hit Enter.

Once the Driver Verifier Manager has started, you will have five options to choose from.  I recommend selecting Create standard settings.

Now you need to select what drivers you want to verify. Next select  unsigned drivers since those are never Microsoft Certified. (If they were certified they would be signed).

You will now see a list of the unsigned drivers on your computer.  When you are finished just hit Cancel.

The Driver Verifier Manager is a very powerful utility that you can also use to test how a driver works. Using the Driver Verifier Manager to verify a driver with the standard settings will closely monitor the driver for various violations.  If it detects one it will throw a bug check (Blue Screen) and create a memory dump that you can then analyze in Windbg.  For more information on verifying drivers, check out Microsoft’s KB article 244617.

Wireless Manager Could Not Verify Internet

Jan 31, 2010

Router is a WRT160N, and my wireless adapter is a WMP600N. The computer with the adapter is having the issues. Linksys Wireless Manager as well as Network Diagnostics claim that I'm connected to the network. But I'm not getting any signal(sometimes, but very inconsistently). There isn't any consistent error message either. Also, whenever it does struggle to somehow connect, only the normal icon in the systray says I'm connected to the internet; wireless manager claims I'm offline 100% of the time. Linksys wireless manager says: "Your adapter has been configured and you are connected to the network. However, Linksys Wireless Manager could not verify your internet connection."

Things I've tried:
Power Cycles
Hard resets
Find INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) in the list
Click Properties
Click ADVANCED
Click the DNS tab
Click ADD
Type the IP Address 192.168.1.1....

The Server Has Rejected Your Login. Verify That Username

May 5, 2008

I've got two emails, both gmail accounts. When I first set them up everything worked perfect. I know that I have the right port numbers as directed by gmail, I also know that I have my user name and password entered correctly. When I open my windows mail it will work just fine at first, but after having it open for a short time I get these error messages telling me that "The server has rejected your login. Please verify that your username and password are correct" . When it gives me the box to put the information in I know that I put it in correctly, but the same error pops up over and over. I'm sure it has to be something with the way it's working with IMAP or something because I never had this issue with outlook and my pop mail accounts.

Windows Security: Verify That Both User Name And Password Are Correct

Jul 29, 2009

I just tried to open my Window Mail and got a message window that said: Windows Security: Please verify that both the user name and password are correct for your mail server. It then wants you to type your username and password into two blocks. It then has a check block that says "Remember My Credentials". Then OK or Cancel. This is the first time I have seen this when I open Windows Mail. Is this something new or is this some kind of virus/malware?

Choose Details List: Picture Included To Rule Out/verify Idiocy

Jan 15, 2009

My "size" option appears to have gone missing, and I'm not sure why. I searched with google, as well as these forums, though I could find no answer to my problem. (Though that doesn't mean one hasn't been posted; my searching skills may just be crappy.) Regardless, has anyone had this, or a similar issue, occur? Or does anyone know how to add your own "details" to choose from so I can get it back manually? I saw this: Folder Size for Windows Explorer. I probably need something along those lines, but for the size option instead... Also, if I'm somehow just staring at the list and missing it even after scanning through each item, (Picture included to rule out/verify idiocy on my part.)

Can Not Select The Email Address From Address Book

May 15, 2008

Whenever i create a new email by click "To" to open up my address book for selecting any email address, or when i use "reply all" and want to add in some more email address from the address book, the computer start to run and till it stuck, so the only choice for me is to end this task and type email address instead of selecting email address from address book.

i thought that this is because i got too many email address, thus i deleted most of it and now only got 700 email address inside my address book, i just can not understand that when outlook express can take more than 3000 email address book, but windows mail can not take about 700 email address book. And somemore, this email address book is just useless for me, because whenever i want to use the address book, the windows mail is going to hang... and the only choice is to go to task manager, end this task and restart my windows mail.

Windows Mail And Outlook 2007 :endless "verify User Name And Password"

Oct 16, 2009

I'm trying to set up Windows Mail and Outlook 2007 to use an email box in a new website. I have two email boxes with different passwords on the same site. The first account in Windows Mail worked... but the second, set up the same way, will not. I get repeated Windows Security dialog boxes with "verify user name and password" until I cancel the dialog which returns the following error:

Account: 'mail.mysite.org (1)', Server: 'mail.mysite.org', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR authorization failed', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

I'm using Vista 64-bit which has always been exceedingly careful about what programs it will allow to run... but the places to adjust that are obscure. Is the problem in Vista-64 security setting? Turning off the Norton Internet security makes no difference. If I import the one account that works in Windows Mail into Outlook 2007 (and check that all of the settings are correct) it doesn't work in Outlook. The same endless Security dialog occurs.

Slow Shared Printer - Extrememly Slow Shared Printer

Jul 29, 2009

Problem:

1) Extremely slow shared printer response
2) application nonresponsive while printing

Network Topography:

1 Vista Home Premium 32 PC
1 Vista Home Premium 64 PC

Cisco SD2008 Switch

1 HP 4050 Laserjet (Parallel connected to Vista 32 Machine above)

Configuration of Printer:
Connected via parallel to Vista 32 machine
Printer is configured for sharing and is installed on both machines
test pages print successfully from both machines

Additional notes:
During printer setup on the Vista 32 machine, I attempted to install
additional 64x drivers, but could not locate them, so I skipped this step.

During printer setup on the Vista 64 machine, the shared printers were
identified successfully, and I added the network printer. I was not asked to
install drivers the way I have in the past when adding a local printer.

Printing using the shared printer on the local machine Vista 32 performs
with normal speeds. Printing from the network computer Vista 64 using the
shared printer installed on Vista 32 is extremely slow. Even typing in print
job changes in the print dialog window takes 30 seconds or so for each key
stroke to register a response onscreen.

Clean Install, Verify Previous Install Of XP/2000?

Jan 30, 2007

I'm assuming a clean install with an upgrade license will be identical to a clean install with a 'full' copy, except that at some point during the process, it will ask for my key for Windows XP? I just want to confirm this is the case before I go buy an upgrade copy. one last question to tack on here - if I have a desktop and a laptop computer will it let me install the same copy and license key of Vista on both? I know some MS products in the past have allowed you to install on more than one computer because they realize a lot of people have more than one computer but they only work with one at a given time.

From PC1:
- Double-clicking on the PC1 icon in Network displays a "\PC1 is not accessible" error
- Typing \PC1 (or 192.168.x.x) into IE or Run gives the same error
- Clicking on "show me all the shared network folders on this computer" does nothing the point turns into circle for a few seconds but then nothing happens.

PC1 is running Vista Home edition
- Network Discovery is ON
- File and Printer Sharing is ON
- All computers are in the same WORKGROUP
- Password access is OFF
- Windows Firewall only (no Third Party Firewalls).
