File Can't Shared
May 24, 2008I can't 'unshare' my documents folder from other users (I'm the only administrator account), I keep getting an error message that this folder is in a shared folder?

Network Topography:
1 Vista Home Premium 32 PC
1 Vista Home Premium 64 PC
Cisco SD2008 Switch
1 HP 4050 Laserjet (Parallel connected to Vista 32 Machine above)
Configuration of Printer:
Connected via parallel to Vista 32 machine
Printer is configured for sharing and is installed on both machines
test pages print successfully from both machines
Additional notes:
During printer setup on the Vista 32 machine, I attempted to install
additional 64x drivers, but could not locate them, so I skipped this step.
During printer setup on the Vista 64 machine, the shared printers were
identified successfully, and I added the network printer. I was not asked to
install drivers the way I have in the past when adding a local printer.
Printing using the shared printer on the local machine Vista 32 performs
with normal speeds. Printing from the network computer Vista 64 using the
shared printer installed on Vista 32 is extremely slow. Even typing in print
job changes in the print dialog window takes 30 seconds or so for each key
stroke to register a response onscreen.
HP Cannot See XP Shared Printer
Jul 27, 2008Vista Home premuim. Network settings correct on both PCs. From Vista I can ping the XP by IP address and by Computer name. From Vista I can map a drive on the XP using either IP or computer name. However In Network XP PC name is present but double-click says no access.Shared printer on XP is not found by Vista Add Printer. XP can see Vista in Network Places and double-click shows shared folders.

Mar 23, 2008I have 2 Dell laptops and I have connected them through cross cable. Now both are able to see each other, but not able to access the shared folder. I have tried changing the settings, but I am getting the same error that I do not have permissions to see the contents. The system whose IP address is 192.168.1.1 is Vista Home Premium and the other is Vista Home Basic. Both have McAfee installed. Do I need to disable it?

Mar 23, 2008I have set up a Network based on a Desktop Vista based, which includes a wireless to a laptop Vista based and a hard wired XP desktop. This was done to acquire old data files of the XP desktop and transfer to the Vista desktop. That has all been accomplished. Those files have since been removed from the XP but the shared folders still show up on the Vista Desktop and Laptop network. Is there a way to remove these folders from the Network since they no longer exist on the original XP desktop?

Symptom: XP systems print to RX500 OK. When adding printer to Vista, sees RX500 but get error message after "Connecting to RX500" box. Error messsage says Windows cannot connect to the printer. Apr 14, 2008I am trying to organize the File and Printer Sharing on my home network, but I have one stubborn Vista PC (PC1) that can't access any of the network shared folders, or even it's own.
From PC1:
- Double-clicking on the PC1 icon in Network displays a "\PC1 is not accessible" error
- Typing \PC1 (or 192.168.x.x) into IE or Run gives the same error
- Clicking on "show me all the shared network folders on this computer" does nothing the point turns into circle for a few seconds but then nothing happens.
PC1 is running Vista Home edition
- Network Discovery is ON
- File and Printer Sharing is ON
- All computers are in the same WORKGROUP
- Password access is OFF
- Windows Firewall only (no Third Party Firewalls).

May 29, 2008How do you get access to shared folders and printers on a wireless network?I've shared the folders on the desktop pc and set all the folders to be co-owned by everyone, the printer is shared yet Vista won't let my laptops can't open the folders or connect to my printer attached to the desktop.The laptops shows up on the network but I get is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource.The specific network name is no longer available.They are all set to be Private networks and the workgroup name is the same on all computers.
All Drives Shared, Cannot Access 1
Dec 15, 2008I have multiple drives on my Vista machine, some are partitions. One drive it will not let me access thru the network, from an XP box, and another Vista box. All shared settings are the same on all the drives. I cant figure out how to access this 1 important drive from my network!

Possible reasons are passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions or a policy restriction has been enforced." I do not use passwords and have not set any hour restrictions, therefore, only thing remaining is policy restriction.

Mar 23, 2008I have troubles getting my laserjet 1018 to work with my Vista Home laptop. The printer is set up to my desktop computer wich runs Vista Ultimate and i have shared it in the network. Everything works alright until I adds the printer on my laptop. After that I can't print from any of the computers and the printer que just fills up and i can't empty it. If i reinstall the printer drivers on the desktop computer its start working there again but I cant get it to work propely when i have installed it on the laptop.

Mar 23, 2008I have a Vista computer and an XP computer. Both are on a domain. I have an HP Laserjet 1018 printer attached and installed locally on the Vista computer. The printer is shared and is added to the XP computer. When printing from XP to the laserjet printer on Vista it acts like it goes..no errors but nothing comes out. However, if you restart the print spooler then the jobs start printing. The printer works fine when printing from the Vista machine but not when you try to print from other computers on the network. Anyone know how to resolve this without having to restart the print spooler all the time? Drivers have been reinstalled and that does not help.I also tried removing the printer. Re-adding it. Sharing it again and re-adding it to other hosts on the network....same issue.

Sep 29, 2007I checked out many forums and seen many others with the same or similar problems. I tried all the suggested solutions with no results. I have a home network with 3 XP computers and a Vista laptop (Lenovo x60) running Vista Business. The network using both wired and wireless connections. I installed a NAS (Maxtor Shared Storage 2), and had to change the workgroup name (since the Maxtor could not handle the "@") character.
After I changed the workgroup name on all computer, the vista cannot find my shared printer, neither any of the other computers on my network. The XP machines do not see the vista either. I have internet access from the vista, but cannot print or do backup to the NAS. So far I tried:.................

Aug 25, 2009I've got 2 Vista laptops. Both on Home Premium. One of them is sharing a usb Lexmark 8300 printer. The other one can see the shared resources and connect to that printer but it can't print. No error messages whatsoever. After printing a test page I can see number 1 next to the printer status but when I double click the printer the print job is not there. Both the computers are in the same workgroup. Both have Printer Sharing enabled in Network and Sharing Center. On the computer that's sharing the printer the Everyone group was given full access. All paper set to A4 on both of them.

Oct 29, 2009I use Vista Home Premium. I have a network that connects one computer by cable and 3 computer by wireless. I also have a LaserJet 4 Plus. It has an adapter card that is connected to the router/modem by cable. I have gone thru the 'Add Printer' procedure several times. It 'finds' a TCP/IP 'generic adapter card and, after awhile, a list of printers is displayed. I select mine. Give it a shared name and click on 'print test page.' Nothing happens. I used to have a Netgear modem but switch to AT&T wireless router. I am unable to find a list of attached devices and their IP address.

Cannot Access Shared Folders
May 28, 2008We have a network domain, all XP pro compters, though the domain controller is NT. I have successfully joined this vista pc, and can 'see' all of the computers and servers on the domain, BUT cannot access any of the shared folders. Can't map to them which is what we usually do, can't browse to them, it asks for a username and password but will not authenticate using good credentials, actually will not even authenticate using the server credentials. I have exhaustively checked the network settings but do not know where else to look.

Feb 8, 2009I have a home network set up with one computer serving as the Server for the house, it is running Vista Ultimate x64. All the printers are connected to that computer and are shared. The server also contains all of our movies and music for the house. I have several computers connected to it ranging from Vista Home Premium x86 to Vista Ultimate x64. Now for some reason I am only able to print to the printer when I am logged in on an account with the exact name and password as the one that I made on the server. Any other account I just get an error in the printer queue. So I figured I just needed to set up everyone with a user name and password on the server. I did that and the same thing is happening. I've checked the security tab on the printer and set Everyone to have full control over the printer. Printer sharing is enabled on the server and I'm adding the printer to the other computers via local port "\SERVERColour Laser". So I have no idea what else it could be. I'm also installing both x86 and x64 drivers on the server and the proper ones on the client computers.
So to recap. I have:
Server - Windows Vista Ultimate x64
Printer 1 - HP Laser CP1215
Printer 2 - HP Deskjet 5550
Computer 1 - Windows Vista Ultimate x64
Computer 2 - Windows Vista Ultimate x86
Computer 3 - Windows Vista Home Premium x86
Computer 4 - Windows Vista Home Premium x86
Each computer has one common user name and password, "Tyler", I can successfully print from any computer while on that account. However I am unsuccessful in printing from any other account. I am about to lose some hair over this.
Shared Files On /XP Network
Jun 23, 2009Network fully operational - Public Folder on Vista can be shared on XP - no problem BUT when I attempt to share another folder on Vista it requests username. Options include username on Vista, Guest, Everyone or Add name. It appears that Vista cannot see usernames on XP. Do I have to add these usernames to the Vista computer? I think the 'everyone' option applies only to 'Domains' which are not recognised on XP.

Mar 26, 2009Background before the question: I work for an architecture firm and are the test subjects to upgrading because we are the graphics department with all the programs that hog memory and have all the 64-bit programs... Adobe Photoshop CS4, 3DS Max 2009 and Revit 2008. I recently upgraded my machine to Vista Business x64 and all my co-workers except for one other (who also upgraded with me to Vista Business x64) are all on XP x86 machines.
we have problems with the network printers that are shared on a server machine. Issue is, everyone can print all day til we print out something. (Yes, are machine recognize the printers... it is not a I can't see them or are they shared on the server). After it stops everyone, we can keep on printing ourselves. The only way to fix it is to reset the server machine to recognize the printer again.Is there any local fix from the take over from happening... or is it on the server machine? Actually, what is the fix? Currently are work around is to jump on a computer that hasn't been used by anyone for years (XP x86) to print.
Shared Drive On XPx64-SP1 Not Accessible Thru LAN
Mar 28, 2009I am getting error messages when attempting to open a shared drive on XPx64-sp1 machine from Vistax64-sp2rc machine: Open Folder. ULTRA-WX64DTs01i (D) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command. There are 5 machines in the LAN which are WX64-sp1, WX86-sp3, WV86-sp1, WV64-sp2rc, and W7x64. There is no problem among the latter 4 machines but a shared drive on WX64 can not be accessed from any of the latter 4 machines. There is no problem with RDC to the WX64 from any other machine.
I attempted to install on the WX64, Link Layer Topology Discovery(LLTD) Responder, KB922120, but an error message said that this is for different hardware platform, and could not install it. I noticed that the system event log showed system event ID of 2011. MS KB article says that resolution for this problem is modifying IRPStackSize value, so I did, but no go. The problem may be due to my dumb mistake or oversight somewhere.
Can't Connect To Windows XP Pro Shared Printer
Mar 23, 2008I have an XP Pro PC on my home network and am trying to connect to a Lexmark X215 printer that is shared off of the XP Pro machine. I am connecting with a new Vista Home Premium Dell XPS M1530 laptop. The rest of the network is working fine - shared files, folders, access to the Internet, etc.

May 18, 2008so i wanted to know what is "shared system video memory" and how to remove it? I learned it was RAM that was used to help the graphic card that is new with windows vista, but am I loosing this ram in the games or is it not important? i have an asus F3JM AK022H with geforcego7600 (512mo dedicated memory) and 2go RAM.
In my graphic card properties it's noticed that i have 512mo dedicated video memory, 0mo system memory, 767mo shared system video memory and 1279mo total graphic memory (the 512 of my GC and the 767 "shared system video memory")
So my question is : do I loose those 767mo of RAM during my games? (i don't think my CG needs more memory since it already has 512mo dedicated), and I have only 2go RAM so if I loose 767mo i don't have much RAM left. And can I change this setting or disable it?

Jul 29, 2009I am Vista Home Premium SP1. When connected to the network, I can not send problem Reports, the Help has Xs through the images, and I can not connect to other shared devices. I can go online to bing.com and several other websites. But I can not download java or flash updates, it says I do not any an internet connection. I also can not download any new Microsoft updates. If I install IE8, then the browser can no longer go online. AVG is the only ant-virus installed, and the firewalls are turned off. The machine can not be formated and reinstalled

I was able to get my XBOX setup to stream from the desktop PC, and I was able to get print sharing setup from the desktop PC. However, I'm having problems sharing folders from the desktop PC to the laptop. On my laptop I have the following share: HomePCPublic: HomePC is the name of my desktop PC. When I initially setup the shared folder it works great. From the laptop I can connect to the desktop PC public folder no problem.
