Over the past few days my Windows Explorer has begun to give me trouble. Stops responding several times a day. I've been through the Reliability and Performance Monitor and the Event Viewer and cannot find any specific correlation with installs or hw, sw changes. Most, but not all, of the errors seem to be related to ntdll.dll and encoders.dll. I can search for the specific error codes one by one, but since there are several, I thought there might be an easy way to check or re-install Explorer.
my explorer.exe stops responding every time i attempt to login to my account. My account is the only account on the computer. Right now i am in safe mode with networking and it is working fine. Any advice on how to fix without formatting? I have attempted to replace explorer.exe with a different one i copied from my aptop, but for some reason i do not have access to delete the old file.
Im trying to delete this .3gp file. Every time I delete it, this stupid Calculating time remaining pops up....and the file cant get deleted because the explorer stops responding, and I have to restart explorer. The file is only 290K. And the system can't delete it! Also when I right click on it and click preferences, it never comes up.
Recently I have noticed that what ever application I am in, often it stops responding for a few seconds and then it starts responding. I am operating Vista Home Premium 32bt. and have Norton Internet Security 2010 running. No other programs running at startup except sidebar.
I appreciate help on this matter. I have run full NIS scan, full Malwarebytes, and full tune up in system mechanics 9.
Every time I try to use movie maker (Vista) to publish my movie as an avi file to the computer, movie maker stops responding (locks up & greys out) and produces the check online for a solution and restart the program. the fault module is "StackHash_1703"
Able to start install of Vista enterprise, but when comes to options of language, time and currency and keyboard layout, the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive. Can not even turn off numlock as the light will not change from being on. Keyboard and mouse work, tried a USB mouse and keyboard - same issue.setting up as a dual boot - XP already installed on 1st partition.
So whenever I turn on the system, after I run a few light aplications, like Internet Explorer or PC Wizard for example, the screen turns dark for 2 seconds, and the error message: "igfx display driver has stopped responding and was successfully recovered" pops up. This may happen once every 30 minutes or even around 5 times in 20 Seconds, resulting in a blue screen of death. The latest driver which is currently installed for the Intel chipset is 15.13.6.64.1908 (7.15.10.1908) which seems to be causing the problems. This driver is also unsigned by microsoft, but is the most current driver to date (pcd5srvc_x64.pkms, igfxcoin_v1908.dll, and igdkmd64.sys comes up as unsigned in sigverif.exe). I uninstall this driver through Hardware Manager, but the current driver then goes down to (6.0.6001.18000). Even though this old driver is stable, my resolution is horrible and websites with picture intensive pages lag and flash like crazy. I've been searching the internet all night with this problem, and this is my last resort for an answer. I don't know what else to do. I can't even find a lower driver version for this chipset on Intel's support page.
Ever since a few days ago whenever i go to open my Briefcase on my desktop it takes an enormous amount of time to open and all that appears when i click the icon on the desktop is a blank window in which it says at the top " EXPLORER(NOT RESPONDING)". It takes the briefcase a few minutes to finally open and display all my files and folders inside.
It is also a pain when i am attempting to save something. For example: if i was to attempt to download a file i would click save, and normally it would direct itself into my briefcase. It still directs itself to my briefcase accept now the save procedure is "Not Responding and it takes plenty time to start responding and working again.
whenever i log in, it sometimes says that explorer.exe is not responding. I then restart it, but whenever i try to open something that needs explorer.exe, like my computer, explorer.exe goes away again and i lose my desktop and task bar. This has been happening for the past few days, and i don't want to use a restore because that would take me back around 2 months ago.
First of all, I will make sure to clarify that this is indeed a WINDOWS Explorer problem, and not an Windows INTERNET Explorer problem. I am able to use IE without problem, and connectivity is not affected. Whenever I try to open a location on my computer (Computer, "My Documents"
Well Vista is starting to get on my nerves with this one, Im trying to do a little spring cleaning in my folders and stuff organizing it and what not then sometimes when I right click something it will freeze then say, Explorer.exe has suddenly stopped responding and then it says to restart it so I do and its on certain programs that it does this.
every time i go onto my computer or control panel it doesn't load up it keeps saying not responding and also when i try to open a file on a program it also stops responding i have windows vista basic 32bit,365gb hdd,502mb ram,3ghz prosessor
My windows explorer is constantly freezing! It wont let me change the volume or battery settings. I go to change the volume and it doesnt go up, so then I click on the taskbar and it shows the hour glass and then a message pops up saying "Windows Explorer is not responding" and this happens to me all the time.
Every day now at least once or twice(and not only at start-up) my pc displays the 'Internet Explorer (not responding)' message in the browser and i have to go through the tedious process of stopping my work and re-starting Internet Explorer. Is this an ISP, Vista or set-up problem?
I am using Vista X64 with service pack 1. I bought my pc Acer Aspire M5800 third quarter of 2009 and has been using my pc without any problem. I am using Trend Micro Internet Security Pro Anti-virus on my PC. Since 2 days ago all my X64 compliant softwares which I had to buy new since migrating to Vista began to stop responding. Today my windows explorer.exe has stopped responding and I am unable to open my files.
I am experiencing a constant and most annoying issue with my new computer with a new Ultimate x64 Vista install. The thing just "Hangs." I can be going along, often in a browser, either IE7, now 8 and Firefox, or in other programs and such, and the thing just stops. The sidebar CPU meters will be slowed and the graph drops to the bottom, the Network Meter activity drops to the bottom too. Often the background stops but not always and the same for the second hand on the clock. The circular Aero spins and the windows are unresponsive, often the window is reported as "Not Responding" and if something does respond to a mouse click only the button moves but any corresponding program action doesn't happen.
The thing will then just sit there like this for half a minute, a minute, sometimes a minute and a half, and then suddenly eveything starts running again and zooms right along. Till the next time which could be the next time I click on something or a few minures later, or longer or shorter. I am coming to my wits end. I am almost beginning to believe the Mac guy on the commercial. I have downloaded and run the System Info program.
Windows Internet Explorer (Not Responding). I get this message fifty times a day, everytime I try to switch programs or follow a link (or at least 20% of the time). Eventually all I can do is click the red X then it will offer to restart the program, which is really my only option, and what I have to do. Is there anything I can do? Should I switch to FireFox?
Using Vista Busniess on Dell Optiplex 755. Whenever I right click a folder or file, Windows Explorer goes into Not Responding.I have reset the folders and run sfc /scannow. No changes! When I run in Safe Mode - all is ok??
Having a massive problem here with vista! Windows explorer decided not to respond and then said that it required restart, while in the process of restart explorer the laptop crashed with blue stop error screen. Afterwards, new startup screen came on saying the vista is unable to load and to chose either Startup repair or Resume Windows normally
now when I tried to use startup repair it was unable to fix problem and then tried to resume normally but this showed only a blank black screen. What is happening and how can I fix this?! Im trying to do this without formatting if possible since there are still important documents and programs that I need to backup!
My windows explorer is constantly freezing! It wont let me change the volume or battery settings. I go to change the volume and it doesnt go up, so then I click on the taskbar and it shows the hour glass and then a message pops up saying "Windows Explorer is not responding" and this happens to me all the time. i have done the same thing and am having the same problem on my hp tx1219us laptop every time i try to adjust volume with the hard keys it doesnt work and i have to restart explorer.exe to make it work, half the time doing that doesnt help either. i have to fully restart my pc. system restore wont work because the problem is percistent and has been around for over 90 days, i dont want to do a full restart of my pc as i have done it before and encountered the same problem again, i ran sfc and it gave me this: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log.
For example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log,C:Windowssystem32>windirlogscbscbs.log The system cannot find the path specified. i dont want to do a full restart of my pc,
Nice to meet u all! I am using vista home premium and when i right click on the wireless internet thing (the two computers with the red "x" or w/e) and click on "connect to a network" i get this windows explorer stopped working error... and when i try to click on "start" and then "connect to" it says that rundll32 has stopped working error... this is really frustrating...
I have tried four times this morning to download and save HP Smart Web Printing as suggested on my Problem Reports and Solutions. Each time about halfway through the download I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot download Smart_Web_Printing4.0exe from ftp.hp.com. The connection with the server was reset". Please can you explain in SIMPLE terms how I can overcome this. The download is to fix an intermittent problem I have (sometimes on a daily basis) where my Internet Explorer stops working.I am not computer literate.
when I right Clicked a short cut, file or folder within Windows Explorer. It caused Windows Explorer to Hang/Not responding. Then Idecided to do an update to the Vista, so I ran the Upda5te option. My problem of right clicking appeared again? I went back into Safe Mode to find and re-do the System Restor from Sept 24th and it no longer exist? the select older than 5 days was grayed out.
I did not delete or do anything (that I'm aware of) to remove it. It was the last one on the list. Was it deleted automatically due to storage size allowed? In any case, is there a way to get it back? I need to fix this problem - of right clicking something and having Windows Explorer hang/not repond. Do I have to do a Vista Repair from my DVDs to get rid of the problem?
When ever i try to delete a program or some file types off my computer, a popup comes on saying Windows explorer has stopped responding, and it closes all my windows and freezes my computer for a couple minutes. This has become very annoying as i am trying to clean up old files on my computer.
I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced these annoying freezes that occur randomly in Vista 64. It can happen while I'm playing a game, it can happen while I'm browsing firefox etc. I freeze up about 4 times a day and the only solution is a hard restart.
It is beyond me, I have the video card drivers up to snuff, all updates are installed, virus scanners/spyware scanners, video card isn't overheating, CPU idles at 33 loads at 42. I'll describe the problem a little better other than to just say it's freezing. When the freeze occurs, the entire screen stops moving, I cannot move my mouse, all sound stops working, and if there was a sound playing, it will get mutilated into a nasty buzz.
When I click on the IE icon in the Quick Launch toolbar IE opens most of the time. About 10% of the time, the program starts but I get a blank IE screen and it says "not responding" at the top. I can terminate it vis Task Manager or click the X to close it and it will give me the option to close, report the error (which does nothing) and close and restart. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 with SP1 and a fast AMD X2 dual core processor.
I am running Vista Home Premium with IE7. Roughly 3 times out of 10 when I click on IE to bring it to the screen it gets as far as "Connecting" before coming to a halt and shows "Internet Explorer not responding". Anyone got any bright ideas on how to fix this?
I need to change the display filename colors in Vista Windows Explorer similar to the MAC O/S Feature. This question does NOT deal with Encrypted Files or Compressed Files. I simply want to change the display names of the files to colors such as BLUE, GREY, etc., just like I can do on the MAC O/S for the past 5 years.
I do NOT want to use any third party software file managers. There must be a way to do it in Windows since APPLE has been doing it for 60 months now. I can't believe that Windows STILL Cannot perform this simple task! If you have a working solution using Windows Explorer please email me and let me know.
I followed the tut here -> http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/11...ate-1-rc1.html
Got all the prereq installed. Then after waiting the 10-15, I acutally had dinner and came back started to d/l the SP. It got to 6% and stopped, sat there for a while and then failed with a code of 80070002. Click on the get help link and followed the instructions for clearing out the Software Distribution folder.
Then I checked for updates again. Did the same thing, stopped and failed at 6%. This time I clicked the 'Try Again' button. This time after hanging out for a while it went to 19%. But then it failed AGAIN! If I try again it just stays at 19%.
I figured that maybe the server is overwhelmed. It was 9pm EST or so. I tried again here at 5:15am figuring that most of the US is in a coma at this time. Same results.
Any ideas on how to get this SP? I'm plum out of ideas!
I'm down for anything, just to get this to work! Why did they have to change the way SP where handled? The d/l from a URL was just fine!
Problem: sfc/scannow stops at 76 %, gives no Info just that it can not perform the requested operation

I suspect that its related to the CBsPackageServicingFailure or both or more don't know where to go from here would really like to get sfc/scannow working Email with Acer America this Computer is still under Factory Warranty don't know what it covers, but they DON'T want me to return it to Store in Winnipeg where I purchased it don't know if I been screwed, this computer (LapTop) does Not have a Recovery partition, it has 1 disc C and 1 partition 232 GB (my Emachine Home Basic Desktop did have a Recovery Partition on D) the Store made me set, 2 Discs after I complained and Acer sent me a set, 3.
Discs after some Emails already been at the store they are slick and have few answers , don't think I'll get far at the store.
I am running Vista Home Premium x32 SP1 on a Dell XPS T8300@2.4 GHz. Whenever I try to run sfc /scannow it stops at either 39% or 69% ('Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation')and at the same time I get a pop-up message 'Windows modules installer stopped working and was closed'. I decided to run the sfc because yesterday morning I found my pc with a blue screen and the dreaded 'Windows has encountered a fatal error...' message. It booted successfully but I noticed several things (so far): all entries from System restore had disappeared, Windows updates had failed several times in the last 3 days trying to install Windows Vista SP2 (KB948465), and the 'uninstall/repair program' button in the control panel did not work (when I right-click over a highlighted program I only get two empty squares and no options). So I could not restore the system, could not update it and could not uninstall the most recent programs that might have caused the problem.
The next step was to do a repair install since I have the original Dell installation DVD for Vista SP1 but the upgrade was also unsuccessful - in the beginning of the installation I got a pop-up window with the message: setup.exe - Bad Image : C:Windowssystem32uniplat.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. I clicked 'Ok', the installation ran for about 1 1/2 hours and afterwards a message informed me that it was not successful and my system was being restored to its previous state.........
