I am using vista home premium and when i right click on the wireless internet thing (the two computers with the red "x" or w/e) and click on "connect to a network" i get this windows explorer stopped working error... and when i try to click on "start" and then "connect to" it says that rundll32 has stopped working error... this is really frustrating...
View 8 RepliesI have tried four times this morning to download and save HP Smart Web Printing as suggested on my Problem Reports and Solutions. Each time about halfway through the download I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot download Smart_Web_Printing4.0exe from ftp.hp.com. The connection with the server was reset". Please can you explain in SIMPLE terms how I can overcome this. The download is to fix an intermittent problem I have (sometimes on a daily basis) where my Internet Explorer stops working.I am not computer literate.

wireless network card. (Netgear WG311 v.3)
HOWEVER - we decided to purchase more RAM for the pc. We called Dell to
purchase the RAM so it would be compatible. We had two 512MB cards in dual
slots. We ordered two 1GB cards to place in the remaining dual slots. That
gives us 3GB of RAM. Vista maxes out at 4MB according to what was sent to me
by NetGear.
The problem is that if we use all four slots, the network card stops
working. If we use two 1GB cards in dual slots, the network card works fine.
If we use all four slots, the network card stops working. We changed the
cards around so the 1GB cards were in one set and the 512MB cards in another
set. We had them paired each time, so that was not the problem.
We ordered two more 1GB cards with the thought that because the four we had
were not quadruplets, that might be the problem. It isn't. Dell took back
the extra RAM.
Dell support blames the problem on NetGear. NetGear blames the problem on
Vista. The technician at NetGear sent me a kb of Vista limits for RAM. When
I replied that we hadn't maxed out on RAM, I got an email that the email I
sent in reply couldn't be delivered.
I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced these annoying freezes that occur randomly in Vista 64. It can happen while I'm playing a game, it can happen while I'm browsing firefox etc. I freeze up about 4 times a day and the only solution is a hard restart.
It is beyond me, I have the video card drivers up to snuff, all updates are installed, virus scanners/spyware scanners, video card isn't overheating, CPU idles at 33 loads at 42. I'll describe the problem a little better other than to just say it's freezing. When the freeze occurs, the entire screen stops moving, I cannot move my mouse, all sound stops working, and if there was a sound playing, it will get mutilated into a nasty buzz.
Symptom: IE 7 crashes or encounters a webpage it doesn't like (certain ebay webpages for instance). Wireless networking stops working (red X in network connection notification icon). Thereafter the ONLY way to get Vista to see any networks is to reboot. FPITA. Refresh wireless network list does NOT work. If IE7 doesn't encounter a webpage it doesn't like, can stay connected to my wireless network all day long.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been seeing a consistent problem with Windows Mail lately,the version for 64-bit Vista Home Premium SP2. Whenever I try to enter a storage folder with 126891 unread news messages (mainly to divide up the contents of the folder), Windows Mail stops working correctly and offers me a chance to send in more information along with the bug report. When I enter a different folder with 73181 unread news messages, things are a little slow but otherwise normal. Some of the other problems I've seen on the same machine suggest that a collection of programs compiled to run in 32-bit mode cannot make full use of the 8 GB of memory this machine has; only the lowest 4 GB, all that 32-bit addresses can address directly. Is it true that Vista lacks the memory mapping needed to run 32-bit mode programs at addresses above the lowest 4 GB? Also, is is true that the version of Windows Mail that comes with 64-bit Vista has at least some part that must run in 32-bit mode?
When I have a set of BOINC programs running, with permission to use up to 4 GB of memory, it could easily come close to exhausting the lowest 4 GB of memory, since most of the BOINC workunit programs were compiled to run in 32-bit mode. However, neither BOINC nor Vista seems to offer any memory restrictions specific to the use of the lowest 4 GB. I've seen enough problems reported in the microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop newsgroup with the Windows Live Mail user interface that I'm hesitant to consider switching to that program. In particular, some of the problem reports refer to functions controlled with buttons labelled only with symbols, not with words. Since I'm rather slow at learning the meaning of symbols not labelled with words, I want to avoid using any programs that use such symbols. Does the WLM program have the option of making labels of the symbols appear in words, perhaps only when the cursor is close enough to the symbol? Or, is there any other workaround for splitting up such a large folder of unread news messages?
The last (2) E-mails I was composing were lost when I hit: send. (No had not saved. Will begin). Message sid program stopped working-crashed.

Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
We have a network connected to the internet through a T1 with 4 2003 Servers and several XP machines connected. We also have a Checkpoint firewall connected. Any time I try to connect a computer with Vista on it, it connects and can access the Internet fine. But EVERY other computer on the network loses connection. In the event log on the 2003 servers, it shows event id 4, network link is down. As soon as I disconnect the Vista computer, all of the others come back online. I've searched and searched for a resolution to this problem, but haven't found any. I'm really afraid the someone with a Vista laptop might come in and try to connect to the Internet (without telling me, of course) and cause the whole network to go down.

On Vista network map I can see both machines and have change suggested settings from help&support but can not browse any laptop from the other. Get premission error messages. i have a wireless router set up which is connected with a wire to my PC. my brother has just brought a brand new laptop. he has full signal to the network however he cannot connect to it. i have turned off all the security encriptions and what not but it still says "cannot connect" ive tried everything i can think of but still nothing. but not nothing connects to it except the mentioned wired PC. ive tried a nintendo DS and a sony PSP bt they get the same error.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to connect to the network in my shared house with no problem via the wireless but at some point it just dropped off and was doing so intermittently, then it refused to connect point blank. The router is in the room next door to mine and the computer can see it is there with 100% 'reception' but it cannot connect to it. It works fine via the ethernet cable that I have but not wirelessly. In addition to this I can connect to an unsecured network wirelessly that occassionally becomes available which has less reception than the one I am trying to access. I don't understand why I can connect to one but not the other. I have not been able to connect wirelessly to this network for months now, and whilst the ethernet is working fine using it defies the point of having a laptop and wanting to move it around.

View 6 Replies View RelatedComputerA, running Windows XP 32-bit has a shared folder in read-only mode called SFiles with a sign-on of CAShare and a password of ZXJK1122. ComputerB, running Windows Vista 64, in the Network entry of Windows Explorer shows ComputerA. When I expand ComputerA I can see the SFiles shared folder undereath and when I try to click on the folder it asks me for a sign-on and password. I answer with CAShare and ZXJK1122, and it asks me if I want to save this information and I say yes. Subsequently, when I click on the SFiles shared folder it gives me read-only access to the files in the shared folder. This works excellently.
Subsequently, on ComputerA, I decide to change the password for the sign-on of CAShare from ZXJK1122 to NPPP345T. Now on ComputerB when I try to click on the SFiles shared folder in Windows Explorer I get a message of: "Windows can not access \ComputerASFiles with an error code of Ox80070005, Acces is denied."
That's fair enough, since I changed the password for the sign-on. So I want Windows Explorer on ComputerB to ask me for a new password, and I will reply NPPP345T and now have read-only access again which is fine. But it does not do this but repeatedly denies me access each time I click on the shared folder. Surely there must be some way to tell Window Explorer to get a new password from me for this share. How do I do that ? It seems impossible that Vista will keep me from accessing shared folders of another computer on my network simply because it has decided that I can not change the signon/password to the other computer's shares.
By now it should be obvious that, under the Vista operating system, I have Home Premium, there is a severe overall, general "has stopped working" problem.

Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............
Over the past few days my Windows Explorer has begun to give me trouble. Stops responding several times a day. I've been through the Reliability and Performance Monitor and the Event Viewer and cannot find any specific correlation with installs or hw, sw changes. Most, but not all, of the errors seem to be related to ntdll.dll and encoders.dll. I can search for the specific error codes one by one, but since there are several, I thought there might be an easy way to check or re-install Explorer.

Diagnostic Policy Service just fails-the associated DLL service fails and won't start for lack of "sufficient rights/access denied". Anyone have any insight other than rebuild the box? I am going to ensure to place it in a container that doesn't receive any GPO policies, but how do I know/find out what is causing this to occur?

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen u first in stall windows everything works perfectly, but then over time, things erode little by little until some things stop working properly.. my problem is this...after selecting a large number of files (3200) and right clicking on them, the windows explorer goes thru a few seconds of "not responding" and then gives me nothing....the file context menu never appears.. then i logged into another barely used account (hidden admin) and found it worked like when i'd just installed windows... obviously, it's got something to do with USED accounts eroding over time...which leads me to my question.. is there anyway to (without doing a system restore) restore the integrity of the user account files that would have an effect on things like this?
