Connecting Disrupts Whole Network

Apr 25, 2007

We have a network connected to the internet through a T1 with 4 2003 Servers and several XP machines connected. We also have a Checkpoint firewall connected.  Any time I try to connect a computer with Vista on it, it connects and can access the Internet fine.  But EVERY other computer on the network loses connection. In the event log on the 2003 servers, it shows event id 4, network link is down. As soon as I disconnect the Vista computer, all of the others come back online. I've searched and searched for a resolution to this problem, but haven't found any. I'm really afraid the someone with a Vista laptop might come in and try to connect to the Internet (without telling me, of course) and cause the whole network to go down.

Connecting To Specific Network Dropped Off

Mar 29, 2009

I used to be able to connect to the network in my shared house with no problem via the wireless but at some point it just dropped off and was doing so intermittently, then it refused to connect point blank. The router is in the room next door to mine and the computer can see it is there with 100% 'reception' but it cannot connect to it. It works fine via the ethernet cable that I have but not wirelessly. In addition to this I can connect to an unsecured network wirelessly that occassionally becomes available which has less reception than the one I am trying to access. I don't understand why I can connect to one but not the other. I have not been able to connect wirelessly to this network for months now, and whilst the ethernet is working fine using it defies the point of having a laptop and wanting to move it around.

Connecting To Share In A Network After Password Change

Dec 4, 2009

ComputerA, running Windows XP 32-bit has a shared folder in read-only mode called SFiles with a sign-on of CAShare and a password of ZXJK1122. ComputerB, running Windows Vista 64, in the Network entry of Windows Explorer shows ComputerA. When I expand ComputerA I can see the SFiles shared folder undereath and when I try to click on the folder it asks me for a sign-on and password. I answer with CAShare and ZXJK1122, and it asks me if I want to save this information and I say yes. Subsequently, when I click on the SFiles shared folder it gives me read-only access to the files in the shared folder. This works excellently.

Subsequently, on ComputerA, I decide to change the password for the sign-on of CAShare from ZXJK1122 to NPPP345T. Now on ComputerB when I try to click on the SFiles shared folder in Windows Explorer I get a message of: "Windows can not access \ComputerASFiles with an error code of Ox80070005, Acces is denied."

That's fair enough, since I changed the password for the sign-on. So I want Windows Explorer on ComputerB to ask me for a new password, and I will reply NPPP345T and now have read-only access again which is fine. But it does not do this but repeatedly denies me access each time I click on the shared folder. Surely there must be some way to tell Window Explorer to get a new password from me for this share. How do I do that ? It seems impossible that Vista will keep me from accessing shared folders of another computer on my network simply because it has decided that I can not change the signon/password to the other computer's shares.

Network Printer Attachment Not Properly: Failed Connecting To Printer - Access Denied

Jul 29, 2009

I?m trying to install a network printer on a Vista machine. Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).

Connecting A Sony Vaio To Wireless Network: Switch On Wireless Adaptor Capability

Mar 23, 2008

a friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

Connecting To XP Network Printer "access Denied"

Mar 14, 2009

I have a network with four XP computers on and have recently added a Vista Laptop successfully. All documents are shared fine and internet access is fine. Heres the tricky part, 2 of the XP computers have printers attached to them, When connecting the Vista laptop to a printer on one of them, it works fine, When connecting the Vista laptop to any printer on the other one of them, it comes up with a message saying 'WINDOWS CANNOT CONNECT TO THE PRINTER. ACCESS IS DENIED'. I have tried many different ways and checked sharing permissions etc but cannot find a solution. Just as an added note - to connect to the printer from one XP machine to the 'problem xp machine' is no problem. Only from vista to the one machine. (The problem machine is a HP pavillion.)

Xbox360 Stopped Connecting To Hp Laptop (vista Home Premium 32bit)

Apr 8, 2009

I don't know why but for some reason within the last week or so my xbox360 has stopped connecting to my hp laptop (vista home premium 32bit). I have a 2wire 1800hg gateway, with both the laptop and xbox connected wirelessly (using Intel link 5100/official microsoft wireless connector respectively).

As I say before a few days ago I could access my shared media via my xbox dashboard, as well as via the media center extender. However now it's not working. The 2wire has it's own firewall but I have opened the laptops connections up completely today (although this wasn't an issue a week or two ago?). And I've opened up many ports in windows firewall too.

When I look at the full map in the network and sharing connections window it does indeed show the xbox and laptop connecting to the router, so it is seeing it. However no connection can be made in either direction (i.e. the xbox cannot find any pc's and the pc's media center can't find the mc extender). I've tried numerous things so far, opening ports etc.. but nothing has worked, so this is my last resort!

Vista Network Not Connected And Private Network

May 15, 2010

Just returned from holiday and while we were away I changed my laptop network in vista from private to public as advised and the internet worked fine. Now at home I can’t connect to my router, and I get a message saying that the details held on the computer is not the same as the router. Also there is no “customise” function being shown on the network and sharing centre screen to switch back to private network. I’ve tried everything to set up a connection, even a new one, but the same message appears all the time.

Get Rid Of Network On Vista And Start Again?

Mar 23, 2008

All I want to know is how to get rid of the network on Vista and start again. In my own way I think I was happier with the problems of W98 as I felt I had some control. I have 4 computers networked on XP. I'm new to Vista. Started the new system, got connection to the internet with no problems. Allocated a workgroup name of WORKGROUP, when I really wanted WG (the name of my existing group on XP) I can see the Vista computer from my XP computers, but cannot see the XP computers from Vista. Also, for example the folder "Program Files" on C of the Vista computer has been shared to all (no restrictions) and this shows up on the XP computers, but they are still refused access. I don't seem to be able to delete anything in Vista. I want only to delete WORKGROUP in Vista and I'll start again (with more care). Meantime I have started to read this NG and might find answer.

New Vista PC; Attaching To Non-standard XP Network

May 19, 2008

I just bought a new Vista laptop, and would like to connect it to my
sort-of-operating XP network. I have named the network correctly, and
entered the proper workgroup name, and now when I show the Network, the Vista
machine shows itself and the router. The problem is, the router is NOT the
Internet gateway; my old XP laptop is, and neither the old laptop nor the
desktop which have IP addresses below that of the router appear in the
Network display, and I cannot access the Internet because the Vista machine
can't see the gateway, even when I force the proper IP addresses into the
appropriate locations in the Vista machine. I also can't use the printers
which are on the system.

Unidentified Network With Windows Vista - In SP1?

Mar 23, 2008

I have a functioning XP network with Zyxel 335 router. 3 wireless and 1 wired

connection. Works OK. Installed a new computer with windows vista wired (old

USB wireless driver didn??t work with Vista). Only local access to

unidentified network. IP-adress 169.... and not 192.168.1.34 which the router

says it should have. When I changed to the same network name all computers

could see each other but later the Vista computer was missing. It??s very

confusing.

What should I do? My son wants to reach the internet from his computer and

we want to share his printer.

I??ve tried support from my ISP and router. ISP wont help -says it??s problem

with Vista..Zyxel says it will be solved in Vista SP1. Does anybody know if

this is the case and when is that released?

Network In XP Working But Cannot Connect To The Vista

Mar 23, 2008

This should not be this difficult! However, 3 weeks later and I'm still not connecting. It seems I've tried about every suggestion I can find. I will attempt to recapitulate in brief but I'm sure I have forgotten things I've tried. I have 2 and printer to a router. One wireless one direct. Another wireless xp occasionally. Works great no problem. I am trying to get just one to connect to the Vista. The Vista has been tried both wireless and cable to router.

Installed the XP responder patch. Created users with identical names and passwords. Configured NetBios on Vista. Turned off and on TCP layer 6. Re-setup networking, same workgroup. Enabled sharing, etc. Only windows firewall, tried both off and on. There is likely more but I have forgotten now. They are visible on each others full maps and they ping each other fine. On the XP when I select the Vista pc I get not accessible, no permission. On Vista I cannot see the XP except in full map view. Maybe it's something simple but I am stumped.

VISTA Doesnt Connnect To Network

Mar 14, 2010

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S with a built in Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN mini-card. I have a Linksys router (WRT320N). This computer runs VISTA Home Premium (32 bit). This computer connects to the internet fine as long as it is hardwired to the router. However, it doesn't "see" any networks when I try to get it to connect to the router "wirelessly".

I have 2 other computers running XP that connect to the router fine so I know the router works fine. The card works fine (I have been on chat with Dell technicians for hours and a technician came to the house this week and verified the card is fine). It must be a software problem on my VISTA computer but I have no idea what to try next (short of reinstalling the operating system).

How Can Network With 4 Running Win 98,98se,xp And Vista

Mar 23, 2008

I have a small home network with 4 machines running Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows XP HE and Vista. There is no problem between XP and the other three machines, nor is there any problem with Vista accessing all machines (including the two 98 machines).

Both 98 machines see the Vista machine but when I try to access the Vista machine from these machines the following happens: On 98 the icon shows the Vista machine name, and when I click on this icon (expecting to get the "public" folder) I am asked for a network password to access the Vista machine - (of course) I have no such password. On 98SE the icon shows the "public" folder, and when I click on this icon the 98SE machine locks up completely. ++ reveals that the Vista machine "is not responding", and I have to terminate the process to continue operations on the 98SE.Is there any solution to these problems or must I simply give up all attempts to access the public area on the Vista machine from my Pre-XP

XP Seems To Lose Network Connectivity To The Vista Computer

Apr 20, 2010

Have a small network consisting of one Win XP Media Center Ed. and one Vista home premium (and an Internet router). The Vista crashed and was restored to factory and apps reinstalled, etc. Each computer has dedicated IP address, and each runs a version of Norton Internet Security. They are in the same workgroup. Prior to the Vista problem, all was generall well. Now, the XP seems to lose network connectivity to the Vista computer when the computers are turned on in the morning. This is important for many reasons, including that the XP uses a printer attached to the Vista for most of the XP's printing needs.

I have set up a user on Vista that matches the user on XP, and have set the NIS on Vista to allow all connections to the IP of the XP box. And all is well until that reboot. There may be more to that, but in the few days the rebuilt Vista has been up, that has been the story. I have been able to restore the connection by launching Network Places, and searching for the name of the Vista computer. It so far does not show up in the network view until I do a manual search using the computer name. Then when it comes up and I double-click on the Vista C: drive, I'm prompted for login info, which I give and then I get connected (why is this not automatically done for me?). I've also mapped a drive to the Vista and set that for "reconnect at login."

VISTA Not To Try To Reconnect To Network Or Mapped Drives?

Jan 29, 2009

This is an issue about VISTA going into "LIMBO" trying to reconnect to my mapped network drives, which I know I don't have access since I'm connected VPN... This issue isn`t isolated to VISTA. I`ve had this issue with all Windows OS, I just never found a solution.

The workstation is part of the network, we log into a DOMAIN (pretty standard...)
Often, when using certain VPNs, the "tunneling security" causes you to loose "Network Connections"... which is fine. I.e. If I have a mapped drive to a share on the network or If my default printer is a Network Printer, I cannot access it. You will get the "Could not reconnect to the network share, etc.etc. or printer is unavailable") Often, same goes for email with Outlook........
