Display: Doesnt Strech Across Screen
Sep 2, 2008My Desktop Display is messed up. First off it doesnt strech across the screen. Second its not the Background I choose. The settings are set to strech the picture.

Desktop Doesnt Appear In Full Screen Applications Or Windows
Feb 13, 2008i have had this for a while, and i have no idea what it is, just a little white square in top left corner of screen. doesnt appear in full screen apps or windows, only on desktop (even if i change pic) when i have no programs running the only thing in task manager - applications is ASUS ACPI Cneter could it be that? what is that? doesnt affect comp in any way just annoying seeing it there

Jul 15, 2009I have been playing around with my Vista for some days now. I patched my registry to account for custom visual styles and all. The computer responded fine to all these changes until today. I installed Desktop Maestro 3.0.0.830 which according to the internet is a decent registry cleaner and works with vista sp2.
What I learnt from the net is that desktop maestro will clean registry and will quicken my startup. So i ran it, and it came up with 937 problems in my registry. So the next thing i did was "Repair". and it did just that. But since then my computer hasn't been starting up at all. Before the login screen comes, i get a blue screen, which remains for too short a time for me to read, and reboots.
Turned the computer on in Safe Mode, which worked perfectly. Ran desktop maestro again, and restored the computer to a previous state. This didn't work. it kept saying C: has some errors please check. But the disk check doesnt work.......
Black Screen After Login--Ctrl+Alt+Dlt Doesnt Work
Nov 5, 2008hey everyone, so i know that there have been lots of post similar to this, but none of the actual responses work in my case. I used my laptop in the morning, no problem, and that afternoon, after I logged in, "welcome" popped up, and it remained on that screen for approx 30 seconds, and then it turned black. the cursor works but you cant see anything, but it sounds like everything is loading. I tried to press control, alt, delete but that doesnt work. It just sits there.
So I tried running it in safe mode, and if i hold down f8, it beeps for a bit, and then sometimes it runs in safe mode, sometimes not. I tried doing a system restore, but that didnt work. I dont know what else to do

Dec 10, 2009i have a toshiba l455-s7980 laptop running windows 7 home premium. also installed is microsoft office 2007 full pro version. when i open certain files i.e. all ,pps files have a black border approx 2 in on each side and do not fully fill the display screen. i can see the full view of the file, but it appears boxed in due to these black borders. this also happens with some .wmv files and Internet files as well. i have changing various display settings, but have not been successful in removing these black borders. i also have another toshiba laptop running xp sp3 home edition and do not have this problem viewing referenced files.

I recently reformatted my harddrive with gparted. Created a primary partition (nfts) and installed vista home premium 32 bit on it. On the remaining unallocated space I installed Ubuntu 8.10. Before I did this my display in vista was beautiful, 1920x1200 resolution. Ever since I reinstalled vista and reinstalled my nvidia driver it lists the current resolution as 1920x1200, but I can definitely tell that it is not the same resolution as before. I'm very frustrated because my monitor/graphics card is definitely not running at 1920x1200 resolution, but it says that it is under my display settings.

Nov 17, 2009New behavior. Never done before. I start up as usual....I get a blue screen. Nothing else. Nothing loads. Not a BSOD. A blue screen. Nice and pleasing. But, still....a blue screen. So I shut it down and restart. Takes longer than normal, screen stays black longer than normal but eventually gives me the Windows logo and WELCOME which means I'm in.

Jan 16, 2009I'd like to put a little disclaimer out here: I know very little about computers. I can navigate my way around them as needed for personal/school usage. Outside of that, my knowledge is spotty. Most of the technical stuff I need done on my computer is done by my father over breaks/weekends, because I can't leave my laptop with the Tech guys at my school since I take notes for every class on it.
So now for the computer... Oi. The computer I have is a Dell Inspiron 1420. I got it back in May. It's running Vista Home Premium 32BIT, and I'm using Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 (I don't know if that is relevant or not, but I'll include it just the same). Since I've gotten it, I've had more problems than I can count. The last problem I had before the current one (random BSODs), was a corrupt file on my computer (Dell Support Center). It wouldn't let me download or install anything, and I had to install SystemMechanic on my computer to get rid of the corrupt files/registries (I think. My father actually did this for me.) The SystemMechanic allowed me to uninstall/delete the corrupt file, and voila, it worked! For about two weeks.
Then I started getting blue screens of death. At first it was only one, and there were a few days/week and a half until I got another. And now, in the past two days, I've gotten at least two (I have left my computer sitting on my desk to do something and I have come back to find it "magically" rebooted and waiting for my login, or stuck on the black screen with the blinking underscore).

May 15, 2010I have an hp laptop model 6730B running windows XP pro.. I have two monitors attached to it through the dockign station It works perfect.. I can set it to use both monitors or extend to the other monitor.. all perfect But everytime the computer is switched off and on again.. it loses this setting and the display appears to clone similar on both screens.. so have to go on display settings and reset the display to "extend my desktop"

Feb 9, 2009All had been working well until a few days ago. For some reason, now when I double-click a video file, I can hear the audio but I get no video. I must open WMP manually, and then I get the video of what I'm hearing. I used to double-click a video and it automatically opened WMP.
Then, to close WMP, I must stop the video first. Because if I don't, the audio will continue even though the video will not be seen. I then have to re-open the player, stop the video, then close WMP. I used to close the program (X on the WMP) and it would all (video and audio) close,
ISO Files Doesnt Contain Anything! Why?
Jun 1, 2008i recently downloaded got some ISO files from a friend and when i mounted them with daemon tools they contain nothing. I tried to burn it on CD but again it contains nothing (almost). Though the size is 3,5GB when i mount it on Daemon, the total files size is 124KB, (dont advice me to open hidden folders cause i tryied many things after doing this).
This also happened when my friend downloaded some warez stuff and he had the same problem. Though i tryied to stop him opening it with daemon tools due to virus risk, he did it and it had only some KB of file size.
Chkdsk Doesnt Run Fully

I've tried Doing a System Restore But it cant since the files are apparently corrupted and check disk cant fix them because it doesnt get far enough to find them in the first place. Just wondering if anyone here could give me a tip on what to do. I would reinstall it but my computer didn't come with a vista disk.
GUI Defragmenter .why Doesnt Work
Aug 24, 2009Last week I bought a new Acer Aspire 6350 w/ Vista - My 1st Vista machine. After uninstalling all the Acer bloatware, I open the GUI defragger, it analyzes C: for 2 secs (doesn't even mention analyzing the other 2 partitions) then it says "your file system performance can be improved". I defrag it the C:, it takes 45 mins or so and done. I go to my wife's Dell Vista laptop and go to the GUI defragger. It analyzes all 3 of her partitions. Weird, mine only analyzed C: for 2 secs. I then go back to my new Acer and run the GUI degragmenter again. After a 2 sec C: analysis it says "your file system......." again. Then when I go the command line defrag, run "defrag c: -a" it says I don't need to defrag. Bottom line is the GUI defragmenter doesn't work on this new laptop. It doesn't scan all partitions, when started it runs for a bit, then it just stops and it goes back to saying " your file system performance can be improved".

Apr 29, 2008CCC software doesnt seem to be working for me.I have used my recovery CD and the system has now CCC version 2.7 (It aint on the system tray but its running I guess).Problem is I uninstalled this and downloaded 8.4 (was like 40+mb)the setup process was very quick and when it ended there was no CCC installed but the setup was successfull.I mean even the ATI Techonologies folder was empty.

O&O Defrag Doesnt Work

Aug 25, 2008The system in my sig came with an Nvidia 9800GT 1GB card, my first NV card, I've been partial to ATI and was seriously looking at the newer X2 cards, wanted to hear of any issues with these and Vista 64? I cant run crossfire, the MB doesnt support it, my PSU should hold up to it, its only a Q9550 quad so I'm not sure if I'd be bottlenecking the board with a card that might be faster then my board can take? Advice would be great, might ask for some help in tweaking a few things in Vista and the new card ( which ever I pick..) for performance. Oh and those who are running the 4870's....are ya cooling them? My XP box had a X1950 Pro that could fry an egg, so it was running 5 fans and a Zalman GPU cooler. Was wondering if the 4870's are being cooled or if the stocker's are working well enough.
