Computer Won't Start

Jan 1, 2010

I tried everything possible doing all the research on the net as possible and seeking HP tech support. Basically, my laptop won't start anymore. When I startup the computer, it just abruptly shuts down after 2-minutes. I tried reseating the RAM, the Hard drive, other things HP told me but all to no avail.

I have basically given up I think...I had one of these sent in when I had my warranty and HP supposedly fixed it. My whole life is on this computer. I was thinking of getting another comp if I can't fix this (I don't know what is wrong with it?) but what would happen to all the valuable materials and software on it? I have the hard drive still? Is there a device they sell I can hook up my hard drive as an external hard drive if I plugged it in with a device or something?

Computer Won't Start Up

Jul 19, 2008

The computer(hp m9150f) just won't start up. I've tried running CHKDSK and startup repair but I keep getting an error message saying that it was unable to fix it. Let me just say that the computer with the problem is not mine but my family's. I rarely use it, so I don't know what they might have done to it. They told me they had some important files inside the computer so they don't want me to do an hp system restore before they saved the files. So, what I've came up with is to do a vista upgrade first, so then they'd have access to their files. Then I would use the hp system restore to restore everything back to the normal. Can anybody here tell me if this would work and also if there's any other way to fix it?

Computer Start Up Question

Aug 25, 2009

Is it normal when I turn on my computer that it first saids dell then the yellow greenish bar that got left to right then my screen go black with just the mouse pointer showing then to the windows logo then the welcom screen and finally my desktop? My main question is is it normal for the mouse pointer to be there for a few seconds before the circular windows logo appears? All together it take about a minute to a minute and a half to get to the desktop. Also sometimes when I do get to my desktop my sidebar gadgets are in the incorrect order. Is that a problem?

Computer Restarting At Start-up

Oct 13, 2009

I am working on my mothers computer. She has a dell inspiron 1525 running windows vista basic.

She is having a huge problem. Whenever she starts her computer, it starts up normally, and goes all the way to the log in screen. You can log in and everything seems fine. It takes about 30 seconds from the time that it shows the accounts to choose from until it automatically restarts. I let the battery completely drain and am recharging it. It is still auto restarting. Her AV was up to date and no problems there.

Computer Shuts Down At Start-Up

Mar 23, 2008

I have a new Acer Aspire computer running on Windows Vista. I've had it set up for a week now, running every day without any problems. Today, I switched on the computer and before Vista loaded, the computer shut down on its own. I tried again and this time got a screen asking if I want to run a start-up diagnostic. I chose that and the computer shut down again. I switched on again and this time Vista loaded and everything was ok. Apart from installing daily important Window Vista updates, I haven't changed anything on the system.

Computer Freezes At Start-Up

Mar 29, 2009

I've been having a problem with my computer for the last month. When starting up it freezes at the splash screen or the windows start-up screen. I may have to restart several times before it will fully start up. I ran the Western digital utility and the hard drive failed. So I installed a new hard drive and went from XP32 to Vista64. I still does it. I ran Memtest and the RAM is fine. I bypassed the surge suppressor and it still does it. Once it's running, it's fine. Other then leaving it on all the time,

Computer Crashe And Wont Start

My vista run laptop will not eject once you've saved something, it says its finalising the disc, then the computer crashes and the CD just spins round for literally hours, the only way to stop this is to turn off the computer 'emergency like' as its frozen. This is really bugging me as I can't save anything to disc or read any discs without my computer crashing.

Huge Bios Computer Won't Start Up

Dec 20, 2007

I own a Lanparty nf4 sli dr motherboard and have recently downloaded and flashed the latest bios from the manufacturer's website. As recommended by the manufacturer, I used winflash to flash the bios. Everything seemingly went well, and the program asked to reboot and I did. Now the computer won't start up. It will get as far as the motherboard logo, but not far enough for me to entire the bios. I don't know what to do. I tried to contact the manufacturer via the phone and have been put on waiting every time.? My computer does not have a floppy drive by the way.

Turnon Computer Wouldn't Start

Mar 21, 2008

Wow...I have not been very happy the past couple of days...here's what happened: Yesterday afternoon, I turned on my computer, and it wouldn't start. Turns out it was a crcdisk.sys problem. To fix it, I went out and got a new HD (needed a new one, it was on sale, didn't want to lose the data on my old boot), installed Vista and SP1 clean, and now it works like a charm.

Today, I go to put my fourth gig of RAM in, and I tried to install the KB929777 update, but I got the "your system does not need this" error. So I tried to just put the 4th gig in, and low and behold, it froze at start-up. (Interestingly enough, I didn't get a BSOD, but I got a crcdisk.sys error...whether or not this was the initial problem, I'd rather not wonder). Took out the 4th gig again, and it starts up fine; slick, fast, and smooth. I would really like to be able to use all of my RAM, seems as how I did pay for it and all...I've got Mushkin XP2-6400 sticks that have been really reliable so far.

Computer Has Finished Its Start-up Routines The StartUp Folder Was Empty

May 29, 2009

This may be a rather simple question, but... How can I tell when my computer has finished its start-up routines? I used to have IE and OneNote in my StartUp folder. But, my computer seemed to take a long time to start up as compared to when the StartUp folder was empty. Now I just have a text file in it that only has the word "Ready" in it. So, that is when I know that my computer has finished its start-up processes. This is more curiosity than anything else. My computer (Dell Inspiron 1501 running Vista Home Premium) doesn't take that long to start up. I would just like to know when I can start opening apps after I boot up.

Windows Could Not Start The Windows Audio Service On Local Computer

Jan 3, 2009

My speaker icon in the taskbar has a red cross on it. When I hover my mouse over it, it says "The audio service is not running", if I right click it I get 3 options

1. Playback devices
2. Recording devices
3. Sounds

I went to my start menu and searched services.msc and checked to see if plug and play, windows audio endpoint builder, and multimedia class scheduler were all set to startup type automatic & all started. they were. so then i go to Windows Audio, right click to properties, and it is stopped. So i click to start it and it says "Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process."

I tried to restore my computer but my restore point is past the point when this issue originated. Also, Conexant Driver is installed and working properly. If I right click on the volume icon with a little red X through it... I can click on Open Volume Mixer, and It says "No Audio Device Installed" Yet, my audio devices are installed.

Turn Off Went To Start Turn Off Computer

I am embarrassed to ask it. Previously I had WindowsXP on my laptop - to turn it off you went to Start, Turn Off Computer. This laptop is using Vista, and I cannot find anything comparable. Last night I turned it off using the off-on button, so got the Windows did not shut off properly message when I turned it on; and I have a "thing" about leaving my computer on overnight. Also, is there a way of hiding all the command bars to "hide" like you can with the taskbar on the bottom?

Computer Shuts Down: Run CHKDSK /F And Check For Hard Drive Corruption And Then Restart Your Computer"

Sep 30, 2009

Before the computer actually came to the point of "shuting down just before it tried to load the o/s" it literrly kept shuting down on its own randomly for a week or so. Then the blue screen appeard with this error: 0x0000007BC , 0x84C5DBA0, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 "Run CHKDSK /F and check for Hard Drive Corruption and then restart your computer"

Basically it's telling me the DRIVE is corruptet! Well, I plugged that SATA 2 HDD into my other computer (windows xp), detected it correctly and actually formated the drive and reinstalled XP on it without any types of problem. Does it still mean - SATA 2 is corrupted or broken!? How about the RAM then ... indeed, I did run the MemTest for 7 times and no errors were found. So the RAM are ok in this case, or am I wrong?! Maybe it's the PSU... ermmm no that cannot be 'cos the computer never shuts down, if I leave it run for (e.g 5 hours) and even if it's comes to "overheating" that cannot be the case eather, as its *again" never shuts down when you leave it run on the power.........

Reboot Computer Through Windows The Computer Shuts Down Correctly

(I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate x64, have an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard and a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 280. 800 watts ZION power supply) Is this a BIOS settings or GPU problem? I already reseated the GPU. Could it be a power supply failure?

XP Computer Disappears And Reappears Arbitrarily From Computer

Jul 29, 2009

I have a Vista Laptop that needs to access a printer on an XP computer in my sister's law office. I'm having trouble trying to even have the XP computer show up consistently on my sister's computer. I can ping it every time from the command prompt. I have all firewalls unenabled on both computers. Identical user accounts on both systems. File and Print sharing set up on both. The Link Layer topology is present on the Vista computer. When the laptop sits for a while the XP computer will show up on the map; but, Vista comes up with an error message when I try to access the XP computer.

Beyond that, the map will lose the XP computer on occassion. The Vista computer can access the internet well enough through the router. At this point I can't install the printer on the Vista computer for not being able to access the XP computer from Vista. I've networked Vista computers before on XP networks, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. Additional info; net view will not show xp computer. Workgroup name is the same for both XP and Vista computer. The restrict anonymous registry key on the XP computer is set at 1. Was originally set at 0. (Norton's Systemwork altered setting)

UAC Locked Me Out Of Computer, How To Salvage This Computer

Dec 11, 2009

I have a problem: I have a Windows 7 computer that is part of a Domain. By using System Restore, Windows has managed to ruin the trust relationship with the domain. I use a domain logon and am the only administrator on the machine (the Local Administrator is disabled). I cannot log in normally, due to the trust relationship issue. If I disconnect the network cable while logging in, I can (cached credentials), however I cannot change any UAC-protected settings because if I enter my credentials into it, connected to the network or not, UAC will simply show an error "This operation requires elevation". Nothing I try will work.

I cannot disjoin the domain, because those controls are protected by UAC. Logging in from a remote machine using my credentials will give me "Access is denied". Resetting the computer account in AD has no effect. I cannot format and reinstall because this laptop does not boot from CD by default and requires me to install a program to change BIOS settings (don't ask, it's a Toshiba, the usual way is broken). I cannot install this program because I am faced with yet another UAC prompt. I cannot remove the harddrive because of the laptop's design. how to salvage this computer?

Computer To Computer Networking Not Working

Oct 27, 2009

I have been searching far and wide for a solution to my networking problem. I have 2 computers that i connect directly to each other by ethernet cable. Both computers also connect to the internet via wifi. So, on each computer, I have my Wireless connection, and the 'unidentified network' link between the two computers. The problem is that the 'unidentified network' settings never save, so when ever i restart either of the computers, I have to make the unidentified network private again, and there is no way that i can see to actually save the unidentified network settings in a profile. Also, to prevent the computer to computer connection from broadcasting over the wifi connection, i have to disconnect the wireless from one of the computers. I have tried making the wifi a public network and the ethernet connection private, but it never seems to work. anyone out there know what i can do?

Start Menu Add-on: Start++

May 15, 2007

Every Windows power user knows the command line is “the place” to get serious work done.  The new Start Menu search box in Windows Vista opens the door to a whole new level of command line possibilities.  One utility called Start++ extends the Start Menu search box to add even more features allowing you to use shortcuts to launch web sites and processes.

Would you like to search Google from your start menu search box? Just type g followed by your query such as “g tweak vista”. How about doing a quick search on Wikipedia? Type w and your query in the search box.  The possibilities are endless because you can create custom shortcuts just like the examples above.

On top of web shortcuts, you can also create application links that will launch an app and open a file.  Almost anything is possible with a little customization of the Start++ utility shown below....
