Computer To Computer Networking Not Working
Oct 27, 2009
I have been searching far and wide for a solution to my networking problem. I have 2 computers that i connect directly to each other by ethernet cable. Both computers also connect to the internet via wifi. So, on each computer, I have my Wireless connection, and the 'unidentified network' link between the two computers. The problem is that the 'unidentified network' settings never save, so when ever i restart either of the computers, I have to make the unidentified network private again, and there is no way that i can see to actually save the unidentified network settings in a profile. Also, to prevent the computer to computer connection from broadcasting over the wifi connection, i have to disconnect the wireless from one of the computers. I have tried making the wifi a public network and the ethernet connection private, but it never seems to work. anyone out there know what i can do?

Before the computer actually came to the point of "shuting down just before it tried to load the o/s" it literrly kept shuting down on its own randomly for a week or so. Then the blue screen appeard with this error: 0x0000007BC , 0x84C5DBA0, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 "Run CHKDSK /F and check for Hard Drive Corruption and then restart your computer"
Basically it's telling me the DRIVE is corruptet! Well, I plugged that SATA 2 HDD into my other computer (windows xp), detected it correctly and actually formated the drive and reinstalled XP on it without any types of problem. Does it still mean - SATA 2 is corrupted or broken!? How about the RAM then ... indeed, I did run the MemTest for 7 times and no errors were found. So the RAM are ok in this case, or am I wrong?! Maybe it's the PSU... ermmm no that cannot be 'cos the computer never shuts down, if I leave it run for (e.g 5 hours) and even if it's comes to "overheating" that cannot be the case eather, as its *again" never shuts down when you leave it run on the power.........

When I reboot my computer through Windows the computer shuts down correctly, but then the monitor remains black and the bios starts beeping out the error code for "VGA not detected". Why would this be? I am forced to press the power button and wait from 5 to 10 minutes to reboot normally. (I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate x64, have an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard and a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 280. 800 watts ZION power supply) Is this a BIOS settings or GPU problem? I already reseated the GPU. Could it be a power supply failure?

I would like to export my contacts from my computer to my second computer. Both computers use Windows Mail. I tried exporting the contacts as CSV and vCard files. Using both methods, I was able to import my contacts into my second computer but they weren't neatly organized in files: i.e. business contacts, personal contacts, family, etc. Is there a way to export my contacts so they are still in the correct files and are neatly organized?

I have a Vista Laptop that needs to access a printer on an XP computer in my sister's law office. I'm having trouble trying to even have the XP computer show up consistently on my sister's computer. I can ping it every time from the command prompt. I have all firewalls unenabled on both computers. Identical user accounts on both systems. File and Print sharing set up on both. The Link Layer topology is present on the Vista computer. When the laptop sits for a while the XP computer will show up on the map; but, Vista comes up with an error message when I try to access the XP computer.
Beyond that, the map will lose the XP computer on occassion. The Vista computer can access the internet well enough through the router. At this point I can't install the printer on the Vista computer for not being able to access the XP computer from Vista. I've networked Vista computers before on XP networks, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. Additional info; net view will not show xp computer. Workgroup name is the same for both XP and Vista computer. The restrict anonymous registry key on the XP computer is set at 1. Was originally set at 0. (Norton's Systemwork altered setting)

I have a new Asus Laptop with Vista. Windows Mail has never worked right. After startup it only works for a period of time. (Anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour) It then just shows the following error messages. It also will not send an email until I restart my computer. It always works after a startup. I have Zone Alarm, but it acted this way before I loaded it. Is there a setting that should be changed? My internet connection is a Sprint Mifi. This is quite frustrating. I was able to load previous contacts from Outlook express without problems.

My computer is a desktop HP Pavilion with Windows Vista (64-bit). When I turn the computer on the light that says is on goes on and the computer makes noises like is working but nothing happens, it's like the computer is off. That happened for a week then it really went on and I was able to use it like nothing happened. A week later the same thing happened, I wasn't able to used it for a week. Then a week later again I was able used it, and is been happening that for a month now. I ran my anti-virus but it didn't find anything.

It started two days ago. When I woke up my computer was on but there was no display. I rebooted the machine and it it came up fine but seemed to shut abnormaly. Later that day when I tried to remote control into my machine I was able to get a black screen (so the connection was established but know video.) When I got home it was the same thing: the computer was on but no video and keyboard and mouse did not work. It seemed though, after looking at the logs, that the computer was functioning because there were logs created during the time it was "off." Looking through the logs I could see nothing abrnormal. Truly I don't know what I was looking for? Anyway, in power options I turned off the feature to shut down monitor after certain time. Turned off screen saver.
The sleep mode was already off. I was connected to PC via remote control from work and machine rebooted itself. All it said in log was: The previous system shutdown at 7:30:29 PM on 4/24/2008 was unexpected. Not sure if the reboot and the aforementioned issue is related. Anyway, I am not sure why this started happening. I did install a game call Rome Univerisalus or some such name. I uninstalled the game when I started having problems. It didn't work anyway. I am using Vista 64. I just recently built the computer. Didn't experience any problems until recently. Does anyone know how I can figure out what is going on? And even better, how to fix. I am thinking of using the restore point of before I installed the game.

I have a WD 3,5 Hard drive and I bought I case so I could make it external. However, when I connect it to my laptop, running on Vista Home Premium x64 SP2 it does not work. The drive is seen by Vista (it shows up in the Disk Management section in Computer Management) but it does not show up in My Computer. In Disk Management it appears Disk 1, Dynamic, Invalid, with a red downwards arrow. As I have all my info there a soluyion that requires a format is not an option.

I have a problem: I have a Windows 7 computer that is part of a Domain. By using System Restore, Windows has managed to ruin the trust relationship with the domain. I use a domain logon and am the only administrator on the machine (the Local Administrator is disabled). I cannot log in normally, due to the trust relationship issue. If I disconnect the network cable while logging in, I can (cached credentials), however I cannot change any UAC-protected settings because if I enter my credentials into it, connected to the network or not, UAC will simply show an error "This operation requires elevation". Nothing I try will work.
I cannot disjoin the domain, because those controls are protected by UAC. Logging in from a remote machine using my credentials will give me "Access is denied". Resetting the computer account in AD has no effect. I cannot format and reinstall because this laptop does not boot from CD by default and requires me to install a program to change BIOS settings (don't ask, it's a Toshiba, the usual way is broken). I cannot install this program because I am faced with yet another UAC prompt. I cannot remove the harddrive because of the laptop's design. how to salvage this computer?

Everytime I return to work after putting computer to sleep, the computer wakes up without no problem. But once I move the mouse, a shadowed box appeared. With the moment of the mouse, the size of that box enlarges or shrinks. If I click on the mouse, that box disappeared but then a window [View/Sort by/Refresh/NVIDIA Control Panel/New/Personalize] opens. I close this window, only to find the pointer of mouse stop working and the screen is frozen. For now I solve the problem by two ways described below, but it is very annoying to have to do it everytime I return to work from Sleep.
1.I open Task Manager, do nothing, and close it.
2.I right click the mouse on desktop, change the size of Icons. Repeat this action one more time.

I bought this computer about 2 months ago, installed a few games and anti-virus etc. I can play the games fine (Warhammer, WoW) on max graphics with no problems at all however the whole computer will just randomly freeze while playing. The freeze only lasts for about 10-30 seconds, during the freeze the sound loops in the background and the computer acts as if it is working really hard, occasionally it ends in a blue screen although this has only happened twice out of about 60 freezes. I have updated all drivers, checked my network and hardware etc. I thought it may have been a problem with DirectX as when i installed one of my games it froze on the install, i have since reinstalled DirectX off a clean download with no problems.

I am stumped as to an issue I am having using remote desktop. I have several machines in the office that have been using RD for a while without issue. All are XP SP 3 machines. I have a new Vista Ultimate machine that I am trying to remote to with an XP machine. I have set up RD on the Vista Machine, Firewall is checked, forwarded to the correct port, set the port rule on the router...all the typical issues I am aware of. Everytime I try to connect I get "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator." I can ping the Vista machine and I can remote from the vista machine to any RD enabled machine.

Everything was (mostly) OK until - I think - the most recent set of MS updates (?last week - all installed OK) on this Vista HP laptop (on all the time, rebooted maybe 1 a week... and not for a couple of days at least...) There have been oddities but last night on returning home from a public wifi location I couldn't connect to the internet... of course nothing had changed on the home network (1Gb LAN - Private -to Thecus N5200 LAN port...(DHCP on) WAN port connected to Netgear Wireless router; laptop wifi - Public - connected to Netgear (DHCP on))
After much fiddling with settings, most of which seem to put everything back as it was (except perh. NAT now OFF on the Netgear - thought the only reason it was ON was because of the only "mostly OK" referred to above as that resolved a previous problem...) everything is OK and I had internet with *both* networks connected...
a) Vista (still) seems unable to recognise that a change of Network (different SSID etc. etc. etc.) should probably require new settings....but it doesn't and connection remains stubbornly Local with the old (home) IP address, gateway, etc.
b) "Diagnose" doesn't achieve anything useful
c) ipconfig /renew faills because Vista can't find the DHCP server... (is there a friendlier UI method of telling Vista *just* to get new IP settings without all the tedious and unhelpful "diagnosis"?)
c) ipconfig /all shows adapter STILL has the home IP address... disabling and re-enabling, disconnecting/reconnecting, random *&^%ing around eventualy brings it back to life and eventually a new IP address (and correct gateway and DNS) obtained.....

Very new to Vista Home Basic - old XP Home user. This is a new Acer Aspire notebook and out of the box it found my home wireless network and I entered the security key and all was good---to a point. It would drop the connection to the internet but keep connected to the LAN. I red here that antivirus program's firewall must be set to the right setting --- I did that. My question is what do I need to do to keep this system from dropping its internet connection?

I've recently bought a Vista system and would like to hook it up to my old PC running 98SE. I'm not fussed about the old system having internet access or anything too demanding other than being able to exchange files with the new system. I'm a complete novice to this sort of set up but am usually literate enough to bumble my way through to a solution on most things but one aspect has me slightly confused. From what I can gather the most efficient solution is to use a Ethernet crossover cable to connect the two machines but my new machine has only one Ethernet socket currently occupied by the connection to my router. Am I missing something obvious here or do I need to get hold of a hub or similar?

My computer no longer recognizes any of my wireless networks. But when I go into "manage wireless networks" all of them are there. I've tried resetting the adapter and command prompts but it says that I am denied/blocked from accessing them.
In my Device Manager the only thing that has a little yellow triangle is a 'Non Plug Non Play' item called npkcrypt. Is there any reason why I can't access the internet other then connecting my laptop directly to it? I'm using an Acer with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. Anyone know what's going on?

I have a Asus PW5 DH Deluxe with dual Marvell Yukon 88e8503 Gigabit network adapters and a Realtek Wireless adapter intergrated into the motherboard. I've been running Vista Ultimate x64 for well over a year with absolutely no issues whatsoever. This past Wednesday evening I finished using the computer, left it on like I normally do and left my office. When I came in the next morning none of the NICs where working. All I get is the "X" over the icons showing that nothing is plugged in. I tried all of the onboard NICs with no luck, I tried new cables, new drivers, I even tried a different router although all of the other machines on the network are fine. I looked and saw that some Windows updates were installed the previous night, suspected that they were the culprit I uninstalled them with no luck.
I tried Winsock reset, no luck. I installed a new NIC, no luck. I was going to do a system restore but for some reason my computer only had two restore points. The latest one being the reboot from the Windows updates being installed. I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. I've disable the firewall even though without getting a network connection period I don't see that being the problem. It didn't help.
All of the other machines on the network are humming along nicely, including the one I'm making this post with. Do you have any ideas that I could try? I really want to NOT wipe and reload this system if possible. My gut tells me this is from the Windows updates but then why didn't uninstalling them help.

Symptom: IE 7 crashes or encounters a webpage it doesn't like (certain ebay webpages for instance). Wireless networking stops working (red X in network connection notification icon). Thereafter the ONLY way to get Vista to see any networks is to reboot. FPITA. Refresh wireless network list does NOT work. If IE7 doesn't encounter a webpage it doesn't like, can stay connected to my wireless network all day long.

I just installed the drive last night. It is formatted and I can access
it if I type it's letter, F: into My Computers address bar or if I try

Interesting part uis that after typing F: into My Computer's address
bar, it suddenly appears in the folder list on the left. It stays there
until I close and re-open My Computer, then it's gone again.

Vista Home Premium installed. Have had it reboot itself 4 times because Windows Explorer encountered an error. And have tried to install +/- 12 programs from original disks (more than halfstating they are Vista compatible) plus latest version of Office.org notone will install. All, apparently, have a corrupt .exe file. (Incidentally,
I'm using old computer running XP at time of writing).
I'm taking the tower back tomorrow, and will request either XP OS, or a refund. Consumer protection gives me the right to receive a refund on goods which do not serve the purpose for which they were advertised and purchased.
After spending a whole afternoon on this crap OS, I'm pissed off big time and convinced Micro$oft obviously realised XP was working too well.
