Changing MIME Type Vista
Feb 6, 2009Does anyone knows how to change MIME's type in Windows Vista? I knew how to do it with XP, but to be honest, I'm kinda lost with Vista.

Mar 23, 2008I'm having trouble getting my Vista Ultimate desktop to see the XP machines and vice versa. The XPs see each other fine. I'll copy and paste all = the info I'm sure you'll need below=20 but let me say right now that the browstat wouldn't run on the Vista PC. When I opened to text file it was empty. Also, you'll notice in the ipconfig that it says NetBios over TCPIP is disable but it's not. I = have no=20 idea why it says disabled (see pic)Thisis gonna be lengthy so please forgive me. No firewalls are installed = and the one in Windows has been disabled.................

Mar 23, 2008Changed my old IDE CDRW/DVDR reader for a brand new DVDRW one (SATA), and I changed my CPUcooler ( had to remove all cords/connectors and replugg them again).Now when I boot up I got a "3Day remaining to Activate your Vista", and I have filled both my HDD's, I have ALOT of important infomration, family photos etc on my C: and I didn't change battery on the mainboard! ( I'm building computers as a hobby and i'v built over 10 systems, never seen this. OEM is bound to the mainboard, NOT THE DVD-RW unit

Mar 23, 2008I migrated my email from Outlook Express to Windows Mail.for the mosst part, I like the new features and support in the new Mail
program.
But I have come across one problem that I can't figure out.searching the posts on this forum, no one else seems to be having the same problem.
When I send a new e-mail OR reply to an e-mail from a contact, the email content is shifted to the bottom of the email and a ton (about 30-50 lines) of MIME encoding information is imbedded in the top portion of the email.
I have tried changing encoding to reply in senders format or default to Windows instead of ISO format all with no resolution.
People complain about the emails they get from me from my Windows Mail account but if I send from Outlook Express, from hotmail web interface, or my Blackberry all is good and encoding info is not included.
Seems to be some Windows Mail setup issue running on Vista Ultimate x64 with
latest updates applied as of now.

Sep 23, 2008I have a very annoying problem with my Intel DG45ID motherboard. I am noticing that my Vista power configuration setting are changing automatically! I will set my monitor to go to standby after 20-minutes and for the computer to go to sleep after 30-minutes of idle activity. Everything is fine for a week or two, then suddenly I notice that they are both set to "Never". Anybody have this issue? Alternately, is there some sort of log that I can look at to see what might have changed these settings?

Drive C would have XP Pro
Drive G Vista 64.
But when you boot vista it calls changes drive G and calls it drive C. Can this be stopped or can I install windows XP and Vista 64 to the same drive?
Virus Scan Completely Multi Part Message In MIME Format
Apr 8, 2009I don't know if I got a virus or not. I don't think so, I ran a virus scan completely twice. but check it anyway.I was trying to get a photo program to do something, don't even remember what now, and it went crazy. It added a .lnk to every program. I mean every one. It wouldn't even show the desktop on a reboot until I removed it. It sent everything to the internet browser where of course it wouldn't run. I can't get rid of it. I can remove a program and reload it, make a shortcut and the thing adds a .lnk to the shortcut I delete the .lnk and it wants an association. I can assign it one but it requires it every time. There seems to be no way to check a "use this association every time." It's grayed out. It scattered all the desktop icons all over the desktop and changed the icon pictures all to blank. I have a program called Iconord that will restore the arrangement of the icons and it even failed.I have tried system recalls to no avail. Just getting email to work again took a long time and I still have to assign it an association

Mar 23, 2008I need to change the display filename colors in Vista Windows Explorer similar to the MAC O/S Feature. This question does NOT deal with Encrypted Files or Compressed Files. I simply want to change the display names of the files to colors such as BLUE, GREY, etc., just like I can do on the MAC O/S for the past 5 years.
I do NOT want to use any third party software file managers. There must be a way to do it in Windows since APPLE has been doing it for 60 months now. I can't believe that Windows STILL Cannot perform this simple task! If you have a working solution using Windows Explorer please email me and let me know.
Cannot Type In Textboxes
Apr 13, 2008I did a fresh install of Vista, and a stange problem has cropped up. I stated to re-install my programs, everything on C: by default when on without a hitch, but I want to install my games on E:. When I go to change the field, I select the text box and the program will crash. So I closed it down and tried again, same thing. So I opened Firefox, and it does the same thing, try to type a URL in and FF locks up. The keyboard works as I can type in my password at the beginning of Vista and if I press num lock for example it toggle on/off. My impression of Vista now is terrible, because now my computer is unusable. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Oct 6, 2009Whether I reply to someone's email or I create a new email, the scroll bar moves by itself either up or down while I'm typing in the message area - not just one or two lines. For instance I'll just begin typing an email and all of a sudden I'm at the bottom of the page. (Actually, it just did it now as I'm typing this). This happens all the time. Is there something that can be done about this?

Apr 4, 2010I cannot pinpoint the exact date this first started happening, mainly because I use Firefox for most of my browsing. There are however some sites out there that still do not like Firefox.So on the rare occasion I am forced to use IE, I click on the icon IE opens, the second I try and type in the search bar it shuts down. I have tried upgrading to IE 8 and the same problem still exists.I have run my anti virus and also superANTIspyware, to make sure no nasties have made there way in. They both come up clean.Also if I get an email, that has a URL attached, I can click it open (IE is still mydefault browser), and it will take me to the page.But once again the second I try and type something into the search bar wham its gone. and if I try to use ctrl it disappears also.It never used to do this, I have to date tried :-

Can Not Type Korean Language
May 19, 2008I added Korean as other input language on Vista home premium system. I do see korean language bar appeared on my screen, but it won't just let me type in korean.

Jun 19, 2009I have Virtual CD installed on my computer and it was handling .iso files and a very useful feature it had, it caused some options to appear in the context menu of the file (i.e. right clicking on the file) to be able to directly insert the .iso file into a virtual drive. But then I installed WinRAR and regretfully (!!!) I chose WinRAR to associate with .iso files ... and I lost those useful options in the context menu.

I'm using apporx. 50B of my hard disk space on my laptop and each back up job seems to be around 1GB. When I go through the wizard, Vista never asked me whether I wanted to do a full or incremental back up. Can anyone tell me whether Vista is performing full or incremental backups? Does each backup job stand alone or do they need previous back ups in case I want to restore something?

Jun 5, 2006Anyway, my problem is that whenever I start IE7 Beta2 for Vista (5384.4) it acts normal but whenever I go to type in an address or go to the tools or anything else it will freeze and I have to close it via Task Manager. When I first Vista Beta 2 IE7 worked fine for the first few days, but then it randomly started acting strange, i didn't install any other software. Also, i tried to uninstall or re-install but I can't find a download for the Vista version of IE7 Beta or a way to uninstall it, and the XP Version won't work, even in XP compatability mode. Is anyone else having similiar issues or know how to resolve this issue?

May 5, 2008I have Vista home premium with SP1. When I SE it up, I chose not to pay attention to the suggestion that I create a USER account. I'm the only person who touches this computer, so I prefer not to have to type a password to start it all. My account is OWNER. Looking in help files etc., it seems to me that I should therefor have complete authority to do things that only an administrator is allowed to do, but I sometimes get messages that "permission is needed." I'm the owner, I'm the admisistrator, I'm the only one who touches it. Who do I go to to meekly ask if I can do something?

Much to my shock and horror, it looks like no JSP files were backed up, even though I have all checkboxes checked in the Backup configuration and have regularly run backup. Mar 23, 2008Almost trivial but annoying! [Vista HP, Office 2002]. I have a folder containing Excel .XLS files and CSV files associated with Excel. Unfortunately, when I "Group by Type" CSV files appear under "Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values Files", whereas XLS files are under "XLS Files". (Excel Templates are also "Microsoft Excel Template in Windows Explorer, charts are "Microsoft Excel Chart", etc. etc. i.e. XLS seems to be an exception).-I'd rather like all the Excel types to be adjacent. Looked in the registry (The reg key is at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTExcel.CSV) and under the Excel.CSV key is the "(default)" string "Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values Files", but surprisingly there is no Excel.XLS key that I could find to modify to give Windows Explorer a common Type-string beginning. How might I assert some control over this? What and where could I change in the registry? Of course there is the vanilla .xls key, which has as (default) "Excel.Sheet.8" - if I put a new (default) under Excel.Sheet.8 with the string "Microsoft Excel XLS Files" would that work?
