I just put some more memory in my computer and now cant get past boot bios screen as I cant use keyboard to go past but I am guessing as usb is not active at this point keyboard or mouse does not work
View 9 RepliesMy pc wont boot up past the loading bar. the bar scrolls through twice then it stops in the middle for about 2 secs then it scrolls twice or so more and then disapears and nothing else happens. just a black screen. I can boot into safe mode, I have restored the system to yesterday before I installed new graphics card drivers and I have uninstalled the last program I installed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had used my laptop(link below) just fine in the am then when I try to sign-in in the pm it won't go past the login screen and will auto restart and again to the login screen so it becomes a vicious cycle. I have tried starting in safe mode then system restore, no luck, back to safe mode and got this error: The Recycle Bin on drive c: is corrupt or invalid. Do you want to empty ..., then tried: load thelast known good configuration, again no good.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dv6000. I was using the computer today and it was fine and I did not download anything today. When I went to turn it on tonight it goes to the HP screen where in the bottom right hand corner I can pressesc for boot order settings for F10 for setup. Than it shuts off and does the same thing again. I try to press F8 but it's like it wont allow it, I can press F10 to get into setup but when I press F8 there is a
loud beep. It seems like there is a light ticking coming from the bottom part of the lap top, about every 5 seconds i hear a light tick. I tried to reset to the default settings. take the battery out, and all of that.
I turned off my computer yesterday then turned it on again and switched it off again using the power switch repeatedly yesterday in a span of a few mins. I then went out for a day and when i came back home and tried to boot my computer again vista wouldnt load the login screen. I changed my loading screen and it gets past that alright but when it gets to the logon screen everything just turns black?

This is the best install I have ever done (or was)…I did a fresh install and followed a tweak which was to very enlightening, to say the least. From there I have been to a few other sites and moved on to fully customizing my desktop/login and……well…this is where I stuffed up…My BOOT screen no longer works properly, even with the original “winload.exe.mui” file replaced.
I downloaded and used “Vista Boot Logo Generator” I loved the results on my last install…It worked well. Upon deciding to do a fresh install with Tweaking in mind, I simply coppied over a Boot logo I made previously after allowing permissions and all that as well as changing the NO GUI in msconfig…ect….BUT......
i went into my HDD and scheduled an error checking..well windows loaded as normal, but no error checking occurred i guess...now after the green bar is done, the screen hangs on a black screen.
View 7 Replies View RelatedStarting today I tried to turn on my pc and I get the startup repair screen. It does a quick scan and says "windows cannot repair this computer automatically". It gives me the option to send the info to Microsoft or don't send, I tried both and both take to an option to finish or cancel. Finish shuts down the pc and cancel restarts. This seems like a never ending cycle, I cannot get to the desktop to use my computer.
My girlfriend said she would notice microsoft office would uninstall randomly which has never happened before, and we also keep our pc on at night and she said it recently started turning off itself. She thinks it may have started when we started putting music onto our mytouch phones with the usb wire and we charge our phones while it stays connected to the of. I'm not sure what to do. Also Im not sure of which uptdates were installed since they are automatically done.Here is a list of the problem details it gives m after the short startup repair:

Alright i have a gateway laptop not too old at all. Running Vista home Prem. The back story is it froze and i hard reset it, upon restart it started to freeze on the green bar screen and wouldn't go past. Using a recovery partiton on the harddrive placed on there by gateway i attempted 3 times to restore the laptop to factory state, i got as far as the vista initial setup and it wouldnt go back to the desktop. Again it crashed doing the same green bar issues. Finally using a disc i found i deleted the partition and reinstalled vista, leaving the recovery section alone again. But it ran fine i thought i was in the good, so i started to try to get the drivers back, i installed the drivers for the webcam, touchpad, and video card. All were retrieved from the gateway support website. It crashed again the same green bar screen and not going past it. Now the issue, using F8 to get to the advanced boot screen none of the options do anything but send me back to the green bar starting the wait for nothing to happen again. i Also attempted to do a factory state repair with that recovery partition, but it sends me to the green bar. Same thing occurs wif i attempt to use the disc to just install vista, it prompts to press any key to load from cd/dvd i do so it says windows loading files loads for a good 3 mins, then just sends me to the green bar again. Also i cannot access the command prompt or i would attempt to delete the partition again. I cant figure out whats wrong and i know as far as ive gone would exceed what geek squad or most the the random computer repair shops could do. And seeing how its refusing to load a recovery from the vista cd/dvd i doubt anyone could get anywhere with it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI haven't been able to start Windows past the green loading bar. The first couple of days when I tried to turn on the computer it would take me to an 'Error Start Up' screen where I would try to restart using safe mode or something.
Now though, it does the blue HP screen, then goes black with a grey loading bar that says "Loading Files" and then from there it goes to the green loading bar. This has happened to me once before, although, it was fixed in just a couple of days. I removed the main power cord and left it out for a day and when I tried again, it worked. I've tried doing that now, but no such luck......
There has been a lot of news about a new technique to extend the activation period of Windows Vista past 180 days. It all started when Brian Livingston posted a story on his site, WindowsSecrets.com, about a registry key that can be modified to allow the slmgr -rearm command to be run more than three times. This allows you to use Windows Vista without having to activate it for longer than 180 days.
Activation has always been more of burden for licensed Windows users than an effective deterrent for piracy. There are already many cracks for Windows Vista that bypass activation completely. The end result is a bad experience for those that legally buy the product.
For me, this is an issue that I am always fighting with. I am constantly building, installing and re-configuring my two computers with multiple vista virtual machines. I don't want to deal with the burden of having to activate my legal copies of Windows Vista every time since none of my workstations seem to last for more than a few months before I reinstall. If I actually activated my Vista Ultimate licenses every time I reinstall I would already have to use the slow phone based system where you have to type in that super long code. Sorry Microsoft, that is a horrible experience that I'm trying to avoid.
Using Brian's registry key and the old 180 day trick, it is possible to setup Task Scheduler to automate these changes to extend the period before you need to activate beyond 180 days. Follow these steps to automate the registry change and activation reset using Task Scheduler:
Click on the Start Button, type in Task Manager and hit Enter....

1) Use Vista Visual Master to generate winload.exe.mui with the image you like....
* When I start the system, it gets to the Vista's bootscreen (where you see the progress bar). At that point, the laptop freezes. In fact, it freezes before I can see the colored boxes in the progress-bar.
* If I force a cold shutdown (by holding down the power-button), and then restart the laptop, it might load fine and everything would be running fine (like there was never any problems).
* Assuming, it didn't freeze and loaded Vista successfully, then I would shutdown Vista through the Start button.
* If I try to start the laptop again, it will freeze at the bootscreen again.
* I cannot tell when it will freeze at the bootscreen..............
When I powerup my PC It automatically goes to the boot screen. I have to press F1 to get to get past it and to the password screen. I had to reformat my hard drive last month and its been doing that since then.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had an issue with my computer booting properly. I went from a 1:05 boot time to over a 2:00 boot because Vista go's to a black screen instead of loading my desktop. I'm not sure where to start fixing this, I've always been good with computers and have tried all the text book fixes and I have no where left to go. I made a video which is uploading now and will be up incase this doesn't make as much sense as I'd hope. All my drivers are up to date.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Vista Ultimate w/sp1 on my MacPro, the normal start up was to be presented with the choose the OS screen which included Vista Ultimate and also Vista Business (recovered). I have no idea where Vista Business came from, it was a clean install. My problem is that all of a sudden I don't get the choose the OS screen and it goes into fall back. It does finally boot and the desktop seems the same. My RC flight simulator wants me to enter all the serial numbers again, but everything else seems to work. It still claims to be Vista Ultimate. When I go to Control panel/System/advanced/Startup and recovery there is only one choice for the default startup OS. Vista Business (recovered). I haven't set any restore points (I will next time)

When the dual boot screen comes up, it lists both OS's as Microsoft Windows Vista, without any indication which is which and from which hard drive the OS is coming from. Is there any way to change the dual drive start up screen to be more specific as to which OS to select from?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThere is finally an easy way (easier than before) to change your Windows Vista boot screen and use any high resolution photo as your boot screen. Using a great tool written by Dan Smith it is now possible to automatically generate the replacement language MUI file that contains your boot image files. All you need is two photos at 800x600 and 1024x768 saved as 24-bit windows bitmaps. Then follow these steps:
Download Dan Smith's Vista Boot Logo Generator.
Install and then run from the link in the Start Menu.
Hit Browse for image and select both the 800x600 and 1024x768 resolution bitmap files for your boot screen.
Click on File and select Save Boot Screen File as and save your file.
Next, you will need to replace the winload.exe.mui file in c:WindowsSystem32en-us with the one you just created. Before you copy in your new file, make a backup of the original. You will need to take ownership of all files in en-us as well as give your account file permissions to replace the file as well in order to copy the new winload.exe.mui file in.
The last step is to enable the alternative boot screen setting as shown in this tweak....
i have a problem when vista is booting up past the loading bar screen sometimes not always the system kinda hangs when about to boot into desktop?, a mouse pointer appears and the screen is black for about 30-45 seconds then the vista circle icon appears then desktop loads? is this a known problem or just my system?

I have been using a different boot screen for awhile, with no issues. I updated to SP1 and everything seems to have went just fine. But it did, for some reason, change my boot screen back to the original. No big deal, I thought, I will just change it again. I did that, and it seemed to go fine until just now (a day later).
Now the boot screen once again is back to the factory boot screen, and I cannot get it to change to my custom. I can change the .mui file in the windows/system32/en-US folder (winload.exe.mui) with no problems. But when I restart, it is the factory boot screen.
When I try to boot my Vista laptop, it boots fine until after the green scrolling bar completes. Then, it goes to a black screen, then a darker shade, then a lighter shade of black. Then, an arrow appears. Nothing happens afterward. The screensaver will come on after a while. System restore doesn't fix it. What could I do or what could be the cause?

I tried hitting the F11-F12 keys but I still just get a regular startup instead of boot from disc. How do I get to boot from the vista disc and what is wrong with my monitor, it can't be right it has to stand around and blink for 30 seconds..?

to shed some light on it for me. I am running, Vista Business 32bit. Everything had been working fine, but without any changes to hardware, software or drivers I now have resolution problems. Firstly, when I boot my pc up it all goes well until just after the ???Windows Vista??? logo at the bottom of the screen comes up (during boot) the monitor goes into standby mode. Now the only way I have found to get my monitor out of this is to unplug the DVI cable from the back of my tower and plug in back in. The monitor then runs as normal ??? SO THATS ONE PROBLEM. Secondly, when the above problem first happened (and this is still happening) my resolution is stuffed. My monitor can go up to 1680x1050 and my Video Card can easily handle this. (Which it had been doing). But now I can only achieve 1024 x 768.
Vista will not boot normally. I get to the black screen just before the Welcome, and then... nothing. Just a black screen. I CAN start in safe mode with networking, however. I disabled EVERYTHING in the msconfig startup, as well as all non-Microsoft service, to no avail. When I run ComboFix, I get the msg 'ComboFix is preparing to run', followed by 'Acess Denied. Administrator permissions are need to use the selected options. Use an administrator command prompt to complete these tasks'. I did right click on the CF icon on my desktop, and selected 'run as administrator' but got the same result. If I just let it run as is, I get the usual 'Scanning for infected files... This typically doesn't take more than 10 minutes, etc...', but NOTHING ever happens for at least 15 minutes after which ComboFix finally does start. However, while its running through the 50 stages, embedded in those stages is the occasional ''Access Denied. Administrator permissions are needed....". The completion of CF and subsequent restart did absolutely nothing to change the boot problem. I do have a MS Vista install disk, and I've run Startup repair. No change.....................
