Ethernet Does Not Work?

May 4, 2008

After installing SP1 on my laptop the hard wired ethernet works intermittently. The DHCP connection is successful but when I try to ping something most of the pings don't work. Looking at the ethernet socket I can see the green LNK light goes out about once every 30 seconds. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver as well as the device. Also, since the machine is still in warranty the manufacturer replaced the mother board which contains the ethernet hardware.

Setting Up Wifi On Xp

Apr 1, 2009

A while back I had wi fi working on my laptop. The problem I have now is that I had to reload and start over because of numerous infections (trojans, & viruses & malware etc.). I have a Netgear router with setup information that was previously installed. I went into Control Panel / Network connections And tried to activate wireless network connect 3 and it said acquiring network address Intel(R) Pro/wireless 3945ABG Network Connection. I chose /clicked on the network I had previously installed and clicked on Connect.

The wireless network connection box came up and asked me for the network key. It already had a blanked out key in the 2 boxes so I clicked on connect and it scanned and said acquiring network address. The problem is that it never acquires the address and puts a red X on the icon by the clock.

Ethernet LAN Teaming How Well Did It Work

Sep 27, 2008

My motherboard supports 2 Gigabit Ethernet LAN through Teaming. Since I have a D-Link DIR-615 router that has 4 ports, I was thinking about trying to see what gain if any can be gotten with LAN teaming if I can get it to work. I understand the basics about it, but I was wondering if anyone actually has or had LAN teaming (link aggregation) setup and how well did it work for you. I have searched the net, but there really isn't anything very helpful or detailed about setting it up. I'm hoping that someone could provide some more insight about this before I dive into it and find myself without a network connection for a bit.

Using A Wireless Ethernet Bridge With

Mar 23, 2008

I just upgraded to Vista Business on my laptop and I can't get it to connect to the internet using my Netgear Wireless Ethernet Bridge.

The Network Identification process identifies the wired LAN and the wireless network, tells me I'm connected to multiple networks and only grants me Local access. I can connect to LAN devices on the other end of the bridge but it won't connect outside of my subnet.

I have an XP desktop machine that uses the same bridge to connect to the DSL router downstairs and it works fine. The laptop also worked fine when it was running XP.

WiFi Connection Failure

Aug 12, 2009

I have a Vista Ultimate laptop which I used for work in the US. Now I live in Germany. During my initial stay at the hotels, I used the hotel wireless connection and Vista connected to the Internet fine. Now I live in an apartment and got the DSL service from T-Mobile (Deutsche Telekom) and here is the problem. The DSL phone works fine. My Vista will not connect to the DSL router (Speedport 303V).

1.Every attempt to use the browser (Firefox or IE) to connect to the router?s IP address returns the following error message: Connection Interrupted The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

2.None of the external web sites can be accessed

3.The network configuration information from the Control Panel says I am connected to the Internet and the only application working is Skype.

4.My wife has an Apple laptop. She could connect to the router and the Internet from the beginning of this DSL setup.

One thing I did change in the Wireless card settings was the DNS servers. Soon after I added DNS servers from OpenDNS, and I have access to the Internet. I am still not able to connect to my DSL router. I disabled IPV6 for the interfaces and tried to use wired and WiFi access to the router and Vista will not access the router. Every other place I have used WiFi connection, DSL or Cable broadband, I
had no problem. This is the first time I am experiencing this.

Wireless Not Detecting Wifi

Apr 13, 2009

I am using a windows Vista 32 bit home premium notebook computer for which the wireless network detection has stopped working. I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any results. I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to believe that something is wrong with the OS.

I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet connection with a DSL modem. I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks show up. When I click on the "Connect to" in the start menu, nothing happens. When I click on "connect to a network" in control panel, I get an error loading wizards message saying module not found. The card is an Inrel pro wireless 3945ABG and IS turned on. All critical windows updates have been installed.

Vista connects from time to time to Linksys but either only locally with no internet acces or with very poor internet transmission and then dropping connection. Connection to Airlive is rejected as wrong passphrase (although its correct). With no encryption only local connection to Airlive is possible. XP computers work with no problems with both devices.

Why is this happening? I am the system administrator and it is still showing me access denied.

SP1: Loses WiFi Connection

Jun 5, 2008

Running Vista Enterprise x86 SP1 with all updates applied as per Windows Update. Machine is a HP 6910p with Intel Wifi Link 4965AGN. All power saving disabled where possible; power management running max performance. Router is Linksys WRT54GS v2 with latest firmware from Linksys installed. SSID broadcast disabled. Connecting using WPA-2 personal, AES encryption. Have a few other notebooks (Tosh, HP, Dell) and all work without problems but they are all running XP. This current problematic notebook runs fine if I boot to XP.

Problem: with no discernable pattern, the Wifi connection would be lost and cannot reconnect even though the network is visible (shows up as unnamed). Tried IPConfig renew, right-click diagnose & repair, disable/reenable (from network setting and soft-button on notebook) and reboot. Nothing helps.

Simple solution: click on the network and provide the correct SSID and Passphrase, all is well again. Of course, each time I do this, it's a new Wifi network registration so I end up with 6-10 every week that I need to clean up (mywifinet, mywifinet 2, mywifinet 2 3, mywifinet 2 3 5, etc...). They're all connected to the same thing but everytime it dies, the same setting will not reconnect and I have to register all over again. Registration is standard and set to remember and auto connect. This isn't my only problem with Vista but it is the most annoying. Why, why, why does Vista hate me?

If I have my USB Modem and my Wifi enabled at the same time, can I access the Internet via the USB Modem, while accessing the PCs and Printers at home? How would my laptop know to access the Internet via the dongle modem and not through the router and modem on the home network?

Ethernet Connection: Connect The Two Computers Together?

Mar 23, 2008

I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit on a new computer, and Windows 2000/pro on a much older (8 years?) computer. I have no difficulty transferring files from one to the other using flash memory units. Both systems are running fine. I was told, by a not always reliable person, that I can simply plug either a regular ethernet cable, or a crossover ethernet cable, into each computer and each will immediately recognize the other, and each will show up on the other's Window Explorer windows. Then, I'm told, I could drag and drop files from one computer to the other with a click of a
mouse on either computer.

So, I tried it. Purchased a new crossover ethernet cable, plugged it in, and no visible response. No sparks, no smoke - nothing. Directory trees did not change on either computer's screen. The person who told me this would work doesn't "have time to check into it right now."

My questions:

1. Is it likely that I caused any damage to either computer? Both continue to work as well as they ever did, so I don't think so.

2. Is it possible to connect the two computers together, via such an ethernet cable, and have them behave as I had been told?

Windows, No Ethernet Card, Want Internet

Dec 16, 2008

I've got a Linksys router, it's a BEFSR41 v2 Etherfast 4-port cable/DSL router with 4-port switch. It's on the computer downstairs. This computer runs Windows XP. My brothers' upstairs is connected and working. It runs Windows 2000. Mine... I just had to replace. I went to Windows Vista Basic instead of XP. Now, I don't have an ethernet card, but is there any way I can get online with this computer anyway?

A long time ago, I went to a LAN party and my friend's freind downloaded some kind of driver to allow my computer to connect to the internet without needing an ethernet card. Damned if I remember the motherboard, this was four years ago. I just purchased an Intel Dual Core e5200 2.5 GHz. The motherboard is an MSI P6NGM LGA775 mainboard. It says it is NVIDIA MCP73 chipset based. Is there any kind of driver I can install for Windows Vista that bypasses the need for an ethernet card?

No Wireless When Ethernet Computer Is Shut Off.

Also connected via wireless to the same router, are a netbook running Win 7 starter and a MAC laptop. All is well until I shut down the desktop. Afterwards I cannot connect to the internet with either laptop. I had hoped to be able to use the wireless to connect to the internet and shut down the desktop at night as the computer is in my guest room and had thought that the modem/router would allow me to do this.

WiFi Network Connection Dropping

Oct 20, 2009

My home is such that all my broadband to myPCs has to be wireless (the only place they could connect the cable was in an obscure, upstairs bedroom). In general this has worked just fine. I have 3 PCs currently connected to the network, One desktop and a laptop running XP and my new laptop running Vista (new is relative, I've been having this problem since January 2009 when I got the Vista laptop).

The two XP machines connect to the network just fine. Occasionally, when I work on the desktop, I'd see a notification icon that it has connected to the network, but in general I have no interruptions to my network connections. The Vista machine (Vista Ultimate, SP 2) is a nightmare. the WiFI connection keeps dropping. Additionally, often it would report that the network is connected, but in reality, nothing is reachable and I have to disconnect/connect to the network before any Internet site is reachable......

Sudden Slow Wifi (unable To Fix)

Jan 27, 2010

i run the internet through my wifi, the service is provided by the apartment complex to everyone. it is an incredibly strong signal for the whole building, and i am right beneath the source so i have always had just an amazing speed on my internet. the other day, while chatting on facebook of all places, something happened (what i do not know) and the firefox crashed. since that moment the internet has been chugging. and i mean chugging! it takes almost 2min just to load a page. (this is not consistent however some pages load faster) downloading speeds have all but stopped (i don't know how to check for just how fast they are going) i can't even load up Internet videos now its so slow.

i tried several fixes for the problem, but being a noob i think i screwed it up worse because its even slower than before. first i used uniblue registry cleaner and speed upper thing. they just screwed up my computer even worse and it was taking forever just to open a file folder let along load a webpage. i did a system restore to undue that damage. i tried resetting the autotuning. that did not work i even did an ipconfig/renew release thing. that almost did me in. i finally got the internet running again. still slow.

And that is really bothering me.. because I'm a web-developer, and I have to have a stable connection to the internet. I know that there are alot of other people who have got the same problem as me.. And that is only with Vista. Cause if I install Linux on my laptop, the wifi is stable. And it doesn't disconnect at all.
