Headset Not Functioning..
May 25, 2008I have a headset (mic & earphone). I used it on my old system and it worked fine, but now that I've upgraded to Vista x64 it seems to not work. I'm wondering if maybe there is a setting or something that I have missed somewhere?
The problem: I can hear sound coming from it...so no problems there. The sound quality is great just like before..now then, the problem is that the mic seems to not work anymore. No one can hear me and I've tried testing by recording myself and it doesn't play back anything either. I also tried hooking it back up to my old PC and it worked fine...so its definitely a software problem of some sort..

Dec 6, 2008I see to be having a rather odd problem with my Vista, Headset Mic, and Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS card. Ive searched and searched for a solution to this problem on this board but nothing seems to working.here's my deal:I have the correct drivers installed for my Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS card.I am able to hear the Mic on my headset loud and clear on both headphones and speakers. This is the weird part. Everything says its connected and working, and yet, STEAM won't detect anything coming from my mic and neither will Sound Recorder in Vista. I can hear the mic perfectly when I un-mute it in playback, but for some really weird reason,none of the software I try to use it with can detect the sound when I speak into it when it can all be heard clearly I have the latest sound blaster drivers for my card and even installed the new beta one for this model and still no luck.

Not Recognizing Headset Plugging
Jun 2, 2008I am posting from work, but should have enough information for you guys for a start. I just got a new computer on Friday, and have been having some problems with sound. I have gone to the Asus sight and downloaded the drivers again for the motherboard, and am using onboard sound. I don't recall the exact specifics, but its onboard Realtek. Sound works fine from my speakers, but I have not been able to get the computer to recognize just a standard headset that I was using with my other computer that same day, so I know the headset is working. My setup is Does anyone have any suggestions that would enable my computer to recognize when the headphones are plugged in so that I may use Ventrilo and listen to music?

Feb 27, 2009so I'm running a MSI 790x Plat and Windows Vista x64 everything is plugged in correctly according the the manual, and I have all of my drivers updated, but it still doesnt recognize the headset or head phones for that matter. This headset works on other computers so i know its not the headset. I've asked around and people have told me i might need to enable it in the BIOS, but I've looked around and i don't know how to find it there. So I guess what im asking is if anyone can help me find the setting within the BIOS where i can enable it, or do i have to do something else.

The headset is a free one that came with some language learning software so there's no driver. In the sound manager, Vista detects the microphone as being plugged in - as a "Microphone/Line In - SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC", but no program notices any sound coming from it. It is set as the default microphone and it's enabled. It works on my old computer still.

Mar 23, 20081) Headset plugged into front jacks is not working and it looks like my PC hasn't even sensed the headset bcos I expected it to it ask me about what I have plugged into the jack if it was not sure.
2) Rear speakers are working fine for playbacks. Rear jack microphone is working for recording but the issue is the audio being recorded cannot be heard from speakers. After I stop recording I can play and hear the recording but not while I am recording it.
Has someone faced this and has some solutions for me? Let me make it clear that same hardware works absolutely fine when the OS was XP. I had a fresh Vista install couple of days back on hardware with Intel motherboard, Intel core 2 duo 946GZ Express chipset. I have every possible (also all optional) latest update for the OS. I have installed latest drivers meant for Vista (audio and graphics accelerators) downloaded and installed yesterday from Intel site.

Jan 6, 2009As I was playing a game my speakers stopped and minimized, then my Realtek HD Audio Manager says that my headset is plugged in, I looked to see if it was, it wasn't...and now my sound is muted, I rebooted the computer and there was no change, I closed Realtek Audio Manager down and started it back up and still no change!

I'm beta testing the D3 modem for work and can hard wire into it fine, connect wireless with winXP just fine and on my ipod touch fine. Vista will see it, connect to it, but I get Local only. This is where I'm stuck. Vista will connect just fine to my other wireless connection just fine, using that one right now. Just through the D3 modem it wont connect to the internet.

Jan 19, 2010I am troubleshooting a Vista machine that will not connect to the internet. I share an internet connection at home through a router using dhcp. I can confirm that it works as I have currently 4 machines connected (3 wired, 1 wireless) and they all connect just fine. By the way I am using a wired connection for said machine. The output of ping and an ip address states:.......This machine was working about a week ago. Nothing was added (hardware/software) that I know of. Or at least that the kids will admit too!
I did note one occurrence, and that is, when DHCP gets an ip from my router it is 169.254.***.*** where as my router is configured to begin the adresses in 192.168.3.100 and up... Further, I don't receive a DNS from DHCP. If I manually input an IP (in my range/subnet of course) I get the same output from command line and Network and Sharing Center......I know this issue has to do with something in windows and not the hardware because I have booted off of a KNOPPIX linux cd and it connects just fine I am currently scanning with Malwarebytes, AVG, then Spybot so I will update if anything changes upon completion.

Oct 25, 2008I am considering purchasing a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home on it. I work at an office 2 days per week and will need to connect to their server. It is my understanding that Vista Home will not be able to connect to their server. SO....I would need to install my XP Pro onto the new computer. How hard is it to do this and is it not recommended? (I'd like to keep Vista on the laptop as well, possibly as a dual boot? Unless that would just cause more issues.)

Mar 23, 2008This should not be this difficult! However, 3 weeks later and I'm still not connecting. It seems I've tried about every suggestion I can find. I will attempt to recapitulate in brief but I'm sure I have forgotten things I've tried. I have 2 and printer to a router. One wireless one direct. Another wireless xp occasionally. Works great no problem. I am trying to get just one to connect to the Vista. The Vista has been tried both wireless and cable to router.
Installed the XP responder patch. Created users with identical names and passwords. Configured NetBios on Vista. Turned off and on TCP layer 6. Re-setup networking, same workgroup. Enabled sharing, etc. Only windows firewall, tried both off and on. There is likely more but I have forgotten now. They are visible on each others full maps and they ping each other fine. On the XP when I select the Vista pc I get not accessible, no permission. On Vista I cannot see the XP except in full map view. Maybe it's something simple but I am stumped.
LAN: Connect Vista Home PC With Work XP PC
Mar 23, 2008I am trying to connect my new Vista Home PC with my work XP PC in order to share some files and a USB modem connected internet link (on the Vista PC). I am using an ethernet to ethernet cable which has previously worked with my old XP PC and the same work PC. For some reason, I cannot get my Vista PC to allocate any IP addresses (you can tell I'm not very good with network settings...).
I don't have a router to use as a DNS, the PCs have been in the same workgroup but it made no difference. I can ping localhost on the Vista PC. There is no nice wizard to set up a wired connection on Vista, just wireless, dialup, VPN or connect to the internet. Grrrrrr.

Apr 16, 2008I am running Vista Business, and am trying to setup faxing with Vista's built-in Windows Fax and Scan. I do not have a modem, and so I'm trying to connect to the fax on a Windows Server 2003 R2 server. This is a "standard" Server 2003, that is, it is *not* SBS (Small Business Server).
The server is a domain controller, but the Vista PC is not on the domain. However, both computers are on the same local network/subnet. On Vista I can map a drive that's on the server (providing the proper server credentials). I can even "Add new printer" to Vista by selecting network printer and entering the server address & shared fax name, then entering the proper server credentials. So this rules out any network issues, and at least mostly rules out authentication issues (since I'm able to connect to the server disk and printer resources if I provide a server administrator logon).
However, from Vista's "Windows Fax and Scan", when I try to create a fax account, it prompts me for the server name, and when I enter the server, it tells me that I don't have the appropriate permissions and to contact the fax administrator. This happens whether I enter \servername, \servernamefaxname, servername, faxname, \faxname. Also, I have made sure to run Windows Fax and Scan as an administrator, that is, right-click/run as administrator.
If I try to print to the fax printer that seemed to have been mapped successfully (that was mapped with "add printer" as described above), it basically takes me to the same step to add a fax account, at which point it tells me I don't have the appropriate permissions when I enter the server name. Note that when I "added" the printer, it prompted me for the credentials, and then successfully mapped the printer. Now in trying to use it to print (fax) something, it behaves as if I still need to create a fax account and tells me I have no permissions (and there is no option to enter a user/password).
BlueTooth With Sp2
Jun 14, 2009Is any one having any problems with Bluetooth(HP9000 notebook) connecting to the Motorola RAZR v3i cell phone? Is there a new driver for Vista SP2. Do I need a new driver? Until recently(SP2 or update for Motorola phone tools) it all worked fine. I have gotten new software, uninstalled and reinstalled several times and still when the notebook boots the cell phone go's crazy(The bluetooth on the cell phone should not activate until I start the controlling software which is Motorola phone tools).
Even with the problems the connection still allow me to transfer data and manage the phone directory using the notebook/cell phone bluetooth connection. On the cell phone the bluetooth earpiece works fine. Is any one else experiencing such a problem??

Mar 23, 2008I can't get WFS to successfully use the fax modem on my mobile phone over Bluetooth. The modem and Bluetooth connection are working fine outside WFS and I can successfully connect to a VPN over the internet using the mobile phone's modem via Bluetooth. I just can't think what could possibly be the problem. Has anyone else tried to set up their mobile phone as a fax modem over Bluetooth?
By the way, my carrier is T-mobile. I have already called them and they have confirmed that fax and data is enabled on my account. I'm using a Nokia 6233 but I don't think that should be relevant because I can already us the modem over Bluetooth to connect to the internet.
