Sp2 Bluetooth Capabilities

Dec 23, 2008

I have read some of the add ons that sp2 will have. One of which is bluetooth capabilities. If my pc does not have bluetooth will it have bluetooth when sp2 is released. Will I still need to buy a 3rd party device that will allow me to use bluetooth. I am having a hard time figuring this one out.

32 Bit:hardcore Not The Best Gaming Capabilities

Jan 16, 2008

I'm new to this forum and I'm planning on buying a vista32 CPU in a few days that will solely be used for Internet and gaming...but not hardcore gotta be the best gaming capabilities. When it comes to gaming, does Vista32 bit have as many issues as 64 bit? Seeing how XP is 32 bit and games work fine on my old rig. Is that the issue here, that 64 bit is ahead of its time? PS What do you guys think of this rig for gaming:

Software RAID 5 Capabilities, Can't Play

Mar 26, 2009

I want to purchase 4 1 TB disks to be used as DVD storage on my Vista 64 machine. I want to basically rip all my DVD's to my computer so that I can share them via Media Center to my kids (who have a tendancy to watch DVD's until they can't be played any longer and ruin them with their finger prints.) and so I don't have to get out of my chair to put in a movie any more. I figure that creating a RAID 5 configuration would be best since I can use three disks to create the RAID 5 and have one hot spare. (you work in the IT field long enough, you realize that hard drives are the most unreliable part of a computer:-))

My mother board supports this, but I really don't want to use the Hardware raid since I would have to put my primary drive into a raid 0 configuration which would mean re-installing Vista and using the drivers on my mother boards cdrom when it comes to installing drivers for the controller. I was wondering if Vista even has this capability before I shell out $400 for the disks. Since nothing else will be written to the RAID other than the movies, I'm not too worried about write performance. My main question is does Vista 64 Ultimate support RAID 5 configurations, or should I bite the bullet, and make it a hardware RAID5?

Broadband Internet Connection Router Capabilities

Jul 28, 2008

As I've been enjoying Vista a LOT, I was looking in the Vista Tweaks section on Speedguide.net & found that MS Vista's new TCP IP stack has the ability to autotune broadband internet connections due to packet load and or router capabilities/defiencies (much like a "gamer" would be trying to do w/ proggies like TCP Optimizer) except that Vista can do this on the fly while you're surfing, playing MMOG's, etc. Speedguide noted that in Vista this is usually turned off by default but in Server 2008 this is turned on by default.

Now why would Redmond do that? I can understand why turning this on for server usage but I'm a big time online gamer & this ability caught my attention--do y'all know what it means to have a stable connection when you're in the middle of a big intense furball w/ a LOT of others trying to shoot you down? This kind of usage is very much like a server being pinged by LOTS of users trying to get their presentations, budgets, timesheets, projects, etc & IT checking the server as well because Joe can't get his presentation files to run off PowerPoint cause the server is too busy so they're in there checking for malicious "content" that may be using up needed resources....

So I went in & checked thru "elevated command prompt" & sure enough it was turned off. So I just went in & enabled it & set all up according to Speedguide's recommendations to see what Autotuning would do....All I can tell you is this:If you do a lot of online gaming you will WANT this on!Check it out at SpeedGuide.net :: Broadband · Cable · DSL · VoIP · Security · Network Tools I posted this here as I couldn't find any references to this tidbit here in this forum. Now if you just only surf the 'net & online shopping & such I really wouldn't bother w/ this as Vista's TCP IP stack in default configuration is more than enough.Hence why I posted this in the Gaming section.

BlueTooth With Sp2

Jun 14, 2009

Is any one having any problems with Bluetooth(HP9000 notebook) connecting to the Motorola RAZR v3i cell phone? Is there a new driver for Vista SP2. Do I need a new driver? Until recently(SP2 or update for Motorola phone tools) it all worked fine. I have gotten new software, uninstalled and reinstalled several times and still when the notebook boots the cell phone go's crazy(The bluetooth on the cell phone should not activate until I start the controlling software which is Motorola phone tools).

Even with the problems the connection still allow me to transfer data and manage the phone directory using the notebook/cell phone bluetooth connection. On the cell phone the bluetooth earpiece works fine. Is any one else experiencing such a problem??

Fax & Scan Over Bluetooth

Mar 23, 2008

I can't get WFS to successfully use the fax modem on my mobile phone over Bluetooth. The modem and Bluetooth connection are working fine outside WFS and I can successfully connect to a VPN over the internet using the mobile phone's modem via Bluetooth. I just can't think what could possibly be the problem. Has anyone else tried to set up their mobile phone as a fax modem over Bluetooth?

By the way, my carrier is T-mobile. I have already called them and they have confirmed that fax and data is enabled on my account. I'm using a Nokia 6233 but I don't think that should be relevant because I can already us the modem over Bluetooth to connect to the internet.

Update To Bluetooth In SP2 Fixes It

May 27, 2009

The update to Bluetooth in SP2 fixes it: now it does not work. Networking has been improved as well: I have been staring at the spinning circle for more than 5 minutes while trying to change sharing permissions on a folder. Actually I am not changing sharing, because according to Vista the file is already shared with everyone. The problem is that no one else on the network can see the file.

Microsoft has also addressed shutdown: now my laptop hangs and will not shut down unless I manually kill the power. I have migrated one of my main machines to Windows 7 already: Win7 appears to be the real deal. How, after all these years, can Microsoft still turn the offal that is Vista into an ever worse compilation of woe and misery? I sure hope the uninstall works: if I have to reformat and reinstall I am moving to the Win 7 RC.

Bluetooth Discovery Not Working

I just bought a Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 to use with my Asus N70S Laptop which is on Vista 64-bit SP2, with integrated bluetooth. For some reason none of my bluetooth devices (my cell phone, and the mouse) will be discovered. I've set the bluetooth settings to "Discoverable" etc., and the correct services are enabled. Nothing comes up on the "Add a wireless device" page. I don't know what I have to do to get my devices to be discovered. I just saw that on my Device Manager, Bluetooth Remote Control, Bluetooth Hands-free Audio, Bluetooth Hands-free Audio., and Bluetooth Stereo Audio all have the yellow exclamation point on their icons.

What Is Bluetooth Peripheral Device?

Nov 3, 2009

I have a HP Compaq 6715b notebook with Vista Business, the OS preinstalled from HP. For some time ago I connected my Sony Ericsson mobile to the PC as a new Bluetooth device. During the installation, I was prompted to install missing drivers for devices named "Bluetooth Peripheral Device". I never found any drivers, and finally I ignored it. The installation was successful as far as I can see, I have never noticed special problems. However, when I look into My Computer > Device Manager, there is a listing under Other Devices, 2 "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" and 2 "Unknown Device", in total 4 devices, all missing drivers. A quick look at Google tells me that there are many others with HP machines in the same situation, HP obviously does not install these drivers for some reason. I contacted HP support in Scandinavia, but they didn't know anything about Bluetooth Peripheral Device. I see further in Device Manager that there is a HP Integrated Bluetooth module (together with Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator), maybe these are substitute for the "Bluetooth Peripheral Device"? Can anybody tell me more about this? Do these missing drivers exist, are they important, or should they just be ignored?

Bluetooth, Mouse Stopped Working

Sep 8, 2009

I've started to get some problems with bluetooth on my Dell Vostro laptop (running Vista Home Premium). Up until about 3 weeks ago my bluetooth mouse was working fine and I was able to connect to my phone via bluetooth. One day, the mouse stopped working and I wasn't able to reconnect through all the normal procedures. I initially thought it might be the mouse, so I got hold of another bluetooth mouse that is fine with my office XP computer.

I've even uninstalled and reinstalled all the bluetooth software and drivers from the Dell website, but no success. There is no reaction from the laptop when I switch the mouse and click the little button to start discovery. When I try to initiate a connection from my phone, a message pops up on the laptop saying 'a device is trying to connect, please click on this message'. I click on the message, but nothing happens. Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem might be?
