For some reason the add/remove program has gone from just one column list to showing two columns. I would like to get it back to just one column list of programs but I have not been able to figure out how to do it yet. I was wondering if anybody has run into this problem before?
I just reinstalled vista and the only difference to my machine is a 8600GTS graphics card (used to be a 7800GT) but this time around for some unknown reason I can see all my drives in the safetely remove hardware list (I dont want them in there). They were not showing before (previous installs) and I also notice that the windows update has a history that is telling me that the nvidia raid updates have failed and if I try them again it fails repeatedly. So how do I go about making sure my drivers are all correct and removing the raid config and my other drives from the above mentioned list.
My computer: Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 AMD 64bit. I am aware of the two folder for program files, but this scrn shot(attachment) will explain it more.. My "Program Files (x86)" folder is not showing up in my C drive list, it is still there, but not appearing any ideas? I think other folders are not showing as well..
Running Vista Home Premium SP1 x64 IE8. When I start my ASUS Probe II program to check temps I always get that (annoying) little box asking me if I wish this program to have access to my computer. Program is Probe2.exe. Yes I do. Where do I go in Control Panel to put this on an allow list? I'm using 'Classic View'.
When I try to remove Drive F at the Computer window, or from the taskbar, it says "can't remove, in use by another program". This became an issue after I ran Windows Backup for the first time. Earlier backup was the Acer version. Acer's version backs up C partition and records on D. Windows backed up C and D and recorded on external drive F. How do I determine which program is preventing me from safely removing Drive F? Should I delete the Windows backup and use Acer's backup program exclusively? How do I delete the Windows backup?
I am trying to uninstall Nero (the 'burning' program). The uninstall program won't remove it. Windows' Add/Remove Programs won't remove it. Finding the files and deleting manually has no effect. How do I remove it?
I'm a novice so bear with me. Though I want some programs on my computer, I don't want them to automatically start up and slow down the boot up process. In the bottom right corner, I always have Adobe Downloader, Skype, Kodak Printer Status, Web Cam, etc. that I don't want to start up but want available on my desktop if I ever need them. If I go to Add/Delete programs, that will get rid of the program entirely. I just want to get rid of the automatic start up feature of the program. How can I do this????
I had Intellitype pro 7.1 installed awhile back. I thought I had it successfully uninstalled, however I noticed the other day that it was still listed in Programs and Features in Control Panel. When I click on it there are no options for 'Modify' or 'Uninstall'. I did a search for Intellitype in my C drive and found only a couple of empty folders which I then deleted. This did not solve my problem though... I found a couple of Intellitype items in my regedit but I do not want to be messing around with my registry without knowing the consequences. How do I remove this program from my Control Panel and is it safe to delete these items in the registry? .....
How do I remove a program from the list in the control panel: programs/uninstall programs/ uninstall or change program? I tried uninstalling program without success. using windows Vista home basic. Need to uninstall so I can re install older version.
Just wondering if its possible to remove old deleted programs from msconfig and other menus. I noticed in my msconfig, it still has all the apple programs like itunes and quicktime and bonjour etc in the list of services. Obviously because I got rid of them they dont work and it says unknown location but Im curious as to why they are still lurking around, since i did uninstalled them. Same with an old dvd ripper i tried out, now everytime i insert a dvd into my drive and the prompt menu comes theres still an option to use this uninstalled dvd program that has the blank icon next to it why wont it go away?
i bought a laptop acer aspire 4930g before six months. it previously contained the mcafee antivirus as the security. so i was ok then. now it is asking me to renew the mcafee. but i want to put avg. i can not put avg without uninstalling the mcafee. now i am having trouble deciding that what should i do. which is the better ? can i remove the preinstalled mcafee for avg? because i am getting avg for free. will avg do the same job ? may be mcafee was giving the full protection and avg may not give the same? i am using windows vista premium. please tell me that if it is ok to install avg and remove the mcafee for the full internet security.
This drives me nuts constantly. Is there some way to set it so that I never ever have to see a certain column? "Tags" for instance, I find it useless and just taking up space that I could use for when I need to right click, yet it seems to show up in every folder regardless of what content is in that folder.
I have tried everything to display file size in the Windows Explorer folders. I am using Vista version 6 SP1.
My folder is set to view 'all items'. It shows me name, date modified and type. When I right click to display column options, I can't locate size. There are a bunch of other column options, but size is not among them.
I am desperatly trying to change Vistas default search result columns. Everytime I use the do a search, I change the coulmns to "Name, Folder Path, Size, Type". Unforunatly Vista only remembers my settings for the already changed folders. If I search a different/new folder it defauls back to "Name, Date modified, Type, Folder, Authors, Tags".
Where can I change the default columns? As I do not want to change the columns for each and every folder ... I have already customizes Vista's default folder templates in "C:Users<username>" , but this has no effect on the search result. Customizing the searches in "C:Users<username>Searches" has also no use, as theese are the saved searches.
When performing a search in Vista the results show the (thoroughly confusing and useless) "Folder" column. How can I *permanently* set this to the "Folder path" column. It would also be nice to get rid of the 'Author' and 'Tags' columns.
I have double entries of a same program in the main "Open With" dialog box. They are not particularly associated with a certain file extension. Dose anyone know how to delete one of them?
I just installed an additional 2gb of RAM on my system, but this is not showing in the Task Manager. It iniitally was not showing in either, but after installing SP1 Sys info was updated.
I have experienced two instances were Add/Remove in Vista does not remove all the software, so that comprehensive installation of similar software is not possible. The first concerned a Scanner, where Add/Remove would not remove all the software, so that installation of the new Scanner is not possible, until a procedure recommended by the Scanner's makers involving modifications to the Registry is carried out, which I could not possibly do myself, so it means hiring a Professional to do the job!
The second concerns Spellex. Here again the old version has not been removed, so that installation of the latest version is not fully carried out, making the software useless. How can Microsoft produce Windows where such problems occur? What is the experience of others in case this is a fault with my computer?
I'm getting "a program needs your permission to continue" how do I add the program to a trusted list so I dont get this any more. Im bouncing around lots of different programs and its driving me crazy, I need to stop this for selected programs that I trust like putty
whats wrong with my recovery manager program in HP pavilion laptop... when i run the program, a window appears: microsoft visual c++ runtime library runtime error program c:windowssminst estore7.exe abnormal program termination...
I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and it came with 2 set of program files: program files, and program files x86. Since my hard drive is only 100 gigs, I was wondering if I could delete the normal program files and keep the x86 ones, or would that cause problems?
I have Vista without sp1 and installed the updates of 2007/2008 and I don't see the sp1 in WU. How does it show? How do I check if I have sp1 installed? I do not want to download the 434MB standalone pack, is there a solution?
i was away for a long time so i do not know exactly what happened but the wife had let me know that the cd she had put in for my son was not playing so i aske her to look at "my computer" to see if the dvd icon was there but no. so i told her to go to device manager and uninstall which she did then restsart the computer. On restart the computer said installing driver for new hardware but it failed..have tried other ways of deleting then reinstalling but still i cannot use the cd/dvd drive..have even gone down the route of purchasning a new dvd writer but that did not work. by the way error code is" Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
When I connect my Epson CX3200 printer to a PC with XP o.s., I can see the ink levels in the properties window. Wen I connect to a PC with Vista o.s. I am unable to view any ink levels.
I have a laptop running vista and all my documents and pictures and music folders are showing as empty.. I removed the hard disk connected it to a test bed and run treesize and try to explore "my documents" but telling access denied or showing it as empty.. I donot want to take the risk of doing a restore as there were important files on there..
I am going to try to run it on safe mode and see and also check the folders options as whether it is not on hidden files.
Why doesnt my CD/DVD drives show up in My Computer?! Everytime I reinstall VISTA it appears, but after a while theyre not there? And when I put XP on the machine, it never happens. Only in VISTA, first I thought theyre not supported but when I first install VISTA theyre there...then as I said...give it a month and they dont show up and when I put a disc in nothing happens and I cant even type in their location ex. D:/ WHY?
My friend is having an issue long distance and can't see what's going on but is having a problem His DVD drive is not working. What happens is that it is not showing up under "computer" and will not read any disks of course. What does work is when we go to device manager it is listed, but has a yellow warning under it. The drive did work before, but no longer does. Any ideas? He really needs the help and I did everything I could.
i've googled this issue all over, and though i've found many people with the same problem, none of their 'fixes' have worked for me. hopefully you guys can come up with something (without reinstalling vista again!) to make it work. as a note, i'm running Ultimate x64 and all of my hardware specs are more than enough and i'm pretty positive that's not the issue.
suddenly, in the middle of normal usage, my drives were no longer recognized by my computer (optical and virtual drives). they do not show up in "Computer" or disk management. they are recognized by the BIOS. i had DaemonTools installed at the time, it was the latest version; i've read that could be an issue. i have absolutely no idea how to get my drives recognized again - i've got some work i really need to get done and haven't been able to fix this............
I searched the forums, but i haven't seen any problem such as mine. I first saw it with the Help and Support program, but it has also appeared in Combat Arms (game) and in Internet Explorer. See attachments to see what i mean. If you need any further information, just post what.
