8800 GTS 640mb Or 8800 GT 512mb SLI: Power Consumption With 2 Cards And Also The Extra Heat Due To The Single Slot Designs?

I run a single BFG 8800 GTS 640mb OC2 in my PC at the minute due to using an EVGA 650i Ultra board - which has a single PCI slot - but have just bought a Asus 680i SLI board, so i'm wondering if it may be time to upgrade from my single card to dual cards?
The 8800 GTS i have is fantastic and i don't really see any problems with it: apart from Crysis and the snow levels that is, but i think everyone has problems with that anyway. I know the 8800 GT cards are the next GPU die (G92) and are cheap enough to justify SLI, but will i see a massive increase over what i'm playing with at the minute? I only usually play at 1280x1024 anyway due to burning out my Gainward Golden Sample 7800 GTX whilst running HL2 at 1600x1200 and so it's better to be safe than sorry (and out of pocket £300!). Also, i'm wondering about power consumption with 2 cards and also the extra heat due to the single slot designs.

Would anybody know why Vista X64 SP1 does not recognize my EVGA 8800 GTX graphics card, I just got my EVGA X58 MB along with an Intel core i7 920 CPU and six gigs of corsair ddr3 dominator ram, I've installed Vista X64 SP1 and everything gets recognized except for the 8800 gtx graphics card. I've tried installing the 64 bit 182.06 nvidia drivers but without vista X64 recognizing the cards in the first place it's pointless, i just keep crashing when i reboot until I go into safe mode and remove the drivers.

My graphics keeps shutting down the pc dosent freeze or crash the screen just keeps going black. This happens about 5mins in. I've got the new updated driver for it i've also sent back the card and got a replacement still have the same problem.

i installed my 8800 gts with the cd that came with it...rebooted, but all the monitor shows is a black screen (yes the monitor plug thingy is connected to the new gfx card). since the black screen came up, i switched the input back to the integrated gfx card. how do i disable the onboard (integrated) gfx card so that my comp will detect the 8800gts on startup cuz right now it detects nvidia geforce 6150 se (on board gfx card) even if i uninstall it.

I have Vista Ultimate with AM2 Socket, AMD 4400+ dual core processor. I recently upgraded my graphics card from NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS to NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT XXX, and now when I try to watch live TV or record TV or watch shows recorded before the upgrade I get this error: "Video error; Files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer." I have installed newest drivers for graphics card and tv tuners. Don't know what else to try.

As a result of manufacturing defects and the inevitable fallout from it, it seems that Nvidia has gone from enjoying a few beautiful years on top to actually losing money recently. In particular, Nvidia saw a decrease in revenue for the second quarter of this year, resulting in a financial loss for the company.
In total, they lost over $120 million, and recent cuts in sales haven’t helped them out either. They outright admitted that they underestimated AMD, but nobody can really blame them for that. Yesterday, it was speculated that there were manufacturing defects in the G92 and G94 chipsets, on top of the already known bad parts in the G84 and G86 series. Nvidia may have tried to avoid blame here and there, but ultimately it is coming down on them and they have been stuck with warranty replacements galore. Even if the newer chipsets are fine, it doesn't do anything to remedy the mass amounts of defective ones already sold..........

i recently bought an ATI radeon x1550 video card 256 MB dual port(dvi and vga). My power supply unit is of 230 Volts. I just want to know if its ok to put this card in my computer looking at the power supply? The reason i m asking this is because i bought this card a week ago and when i installed it, the screen worked fine just for 3-5 mins and then everything became blurry and i messy. When i removed the card, it became very hot. So i replaced the card from the shop but i m afraid to put this new card again in my computer.

im going to update my stock case fans with a couple Vantec torndoes. the only issue i am afraid of is actually causing a vacuum within the case as to where the air can actually be sucked back through my power unit causing it to over heat.... is this possible?

I have a new Dell Studio XPS desktop that is running vista 64 bit. Love the machine...it works great. However, the hard drive loses free space on a daily basis. I've been working with computers for about 14 years and this is the first time I have had anything like this happen. Last night is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. I was going through my library of music files deleting duplicates(to open up space). When I went to bed I had about 45 GB of space open on my HD. This morning/afternoon when I got back on the computer, I only have 35 GB of space available. I'm not d/l anything, the only thing that was going on was that Itunes was running, playing music from a playlist. There was one new system restore point from sometime last night, but that only accounts for 1.5 GB at most. I have really only used WinXP since about 2001. I did have a new computer last year with vista, but hated the performance and switched it to XP. Any ideas on how I lost almost 10 GB of space overnight? Is it a vista issue? A system restore issue(currently set to automatic)?

I have seen postings with computers with 4GB where vista cannot see all the ram. I have a computer and recently upgraded to 4GB from 2GB. I already have a nvidia 8600GT video card. I dont get any display and sometimes the display comes and it shows 4GB RAM but lasts for 5mts before the monitor shuts down to no display. Any ideas how to fix this problem so I can get at least the display ? I dont mind reduced RAM since I am hoping to move to 64 bit if I can find all the drivers I need.

I was running a 8800GT 512mb, and I had loads of problems with it. So I got a nice new ATI 4870 1GB, wacked it in and now have driver issues up the arse. I formatted my hard drive made it nice and clean, reinstalled the driver played a game for a bit then....... the display driver stopped working! Im sure I have fitted it correctly with the right power suplier
The driver version is 8.671.0.0 [reading that from the device manager properties]
Maybe im missing some sort of driver or something. So right now and about to throw this out the ****ing window and buy a nice easy consol for 1/3 of the ****ing price and no ****ing hastle.

I had my pc down for a day or 2 so i could move it to another room. When i stick my memory card in, the pc does nothing. But before it would. It had no problem recongizing it. I have 3 different cards and tried all 3 of them. Ive gone into device manager and its not in there, but says the device is working properly.I used my usb sd reader and that works fine. I was able to open all 3 cards and do whatever. y this would all of a sudden do this to me after working perfectly fine before.

I have a Novatel Wireless Merlin S720 card. In my Toshiba Satellite P105-S921 laptop, this card fits snugly in the PCMCIA slot and the power light lights-up. However, in my Toshiba Satellite X205-SLI4 laptop, this card does not fit snugly in the PCMCIA slot ( it jiggles back and forth ) and the power light does not light-up.

I have Vista Ultimate x64 installed on an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop, and it has a 5-in-1 card reader. When I installed Vista, I did a clean install and before doing so, I wrote a list of the drivers I might need to get later, like my graphics card, wireless network card, etc.I failed to write down the 5-in-1 card reader, so I don't know what model or anything it is, but it doesn't work. On my device manager, I have a section called "SD Host Adapters", with "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller" underneath it. I use an SD card, so I would assume this is related. However, under "Other Devices", I have three devices called "PCI FLASH Memory" and they all have a problem. I would assume this is the card slot. Also, does anyone know where I can get x64 drivers for a Synaptics PS/2 Touchpad? It works, but the scrolling features don't work.

drive and I found an extra "disk" listed.

Can anyone tell me why I have this entry and what it means? Also, if it is a
"disk" where can I find it and see what it contains?

I have a problem that i have encountered with a dual boot machine.First i will give the details of my computer:

Intel Core 2 CPU E6400@2.13ghz
2gb Ram (2xGeil Ultra 1gb DDR2 PC6400)
2xNvidia GeForce 8500GT graphics cards both with 1gb on board)
700w jeantech modular PSU
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Sound card
Windows XP Home on 120gb HDD PATA
Windows Vista Home Premium on 320gb HDD SATA
This all works fine including in SLi mode.All the latest drivers are installed and both O/S's are up to date.My problem started when i purchased another pair of Geil Ultras (same spec as above) to make my total ram 4gb.I installed the ramas per instructions,then powered up the computer.Vista is my default O/S and it refused to boot up.Got past the P.O.S.T screens then got a black screen with no computer activity
whatsoever.Powered off with power button turned off at mains waited a moment or two then powered up again,At the choose O/S screen chose XP,got as far as the windows XP logo screen and it just locked up on that screen.Turned off again,removed the new ram and tested on my sons machine to find they are working perfectley.

Is it possible to change the Vista Sidebar's width or have it auto-hide? I haven't found a way to change the width, but would like to (assuming any gadgets can use the extra width. I also am interested in having the Sidebar auto-hide. I found a gadget somewhere that claimed it could add auto-hide. I was suspicious as I didn't think that Sidebar would let a mere gadget change the bar's appearance. Sidebar claimed my download was corrupt. I didn't attempt another download. Because of these issues, I looked into other sidebars, but the only one I liked that worked was Google Desktop which won't install. I have Vista 64-bit SP1 and GD requires a 32-bit OS.

I have a Dell A920 printer which worked fine on an XP machine. I have since upgraded to a new machine running Vista Home Premium. When I print from IE or an email from Firebird, I always get an extra page printed at the end. In Firebird, if I do a Print Preview, the entire email appears on one page. When I print, it prints an informational line which appears on the bottom of the preview page on the top of the 2nd page. If I shrink the document, it does the same thing. If I am in IE and tell it to print just 1 pages, it will still followup with a 2nd page. Office applications, Word and Excel, print just fine.

I have just set up my two Vista systems and would like to know what the rest of you get as far as your CPU and RAM% are concerned. On my small Benq joybook it hovers at 55%cpu and 50%ram. On my Dragon it hovers at 2%cpu and 55% ram at idle.
