View 9 RepliesI am using Vista Home. I reformatted my harddrive (when the harddrives are wiped and a clean windows is installed) about a week ago. Ever since things have been acting buggy, and several major problems have sprung up.
- First, internet explorer freezes up and doesn't respond after some surfing. When I try opening another tab it also happens. I try to x out, and it just stays up, not responding. So task manager?
- Second, when I go to the task manager to look around, that doesn't end programs. It too either freezes up, or when I CAD, a black screen loads with a 'Failure Security Options' popup.
- Third, I thought it might be the antivirus I had, so I uninstalled the Norton AV and installed AVP 8.0. It picked up 2 trojans, and after that nothing. After that, I restarted and then couldn't log onto the internet. I finally am able to now after constant restarts and the like.
- Fourth, On the subject of 'restarts', when things freeze up, I can't restart. I have to hold down the power, which I know isn't good. Everything just siezes up. >.<
And finally, Fifth, I tried doing a disk defrag, and it just won't load. When I go to the task manager, it shows it's running, but with very little memory, and not showing up. When I click to run again, another defrag comes up but not avail to me. When I try to end, task manager freaks out. Should I do another restore, or is there something I can do to fix this
I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have issues with the system cold rebooting while surfing any websites. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 system. I've had several avenues of support from Dell's "experts" from India. None has solved the issue so far. If I run a Video card stress test, then go on a website and surf, the system will cold reboot in less than 10-20 seconds. The CPU does not seem to go over 60c, and the memory does not seem to run out of resources. Currently, if I surf for about 30 minutes or so, I will get a reboot. I have reinstalled Vista with SP1 and all updates.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have a basic Toshiba laptop "new" with the basic Windows Vista on it. For some reason every so often, about twice a day, the screen will suddenly go blank. I can still hear music that im playing or whatever, but the screen is blank and the only way to clear it is to manually push the power button to restart the computer. All i use the laptop for is itunes and surfing the web, checking emails. it has never been dropped. its sits on a desk and doesnt move.

I am having a persistent, but intermittent problem with a reminder screen popping up with say 150 or more 'reminders'. All of which are overdue, and none of which were actually set as I do not set them. It pretty much locks up outlook, I click on dismiss repeatedly and it keeps coming up. Office version 2007.

I have no idea why Real Player is popping up randomly. Not when I boot up from a shutdown or restart, just doing usual business on my laptop. I imagine you want me to take note when this happens, but it is really strange behavior. I thought my default player was Windows Media Player, but I could have changed that because I was having problems gettng my iPod to sync.

If I press tab, it gives me the option to get into windows memory diagnostic. How do I disable all of this to boot straight into vista without having to press enter? this is vista home. Last night, I decided to connect my HDMI cord to the laptop and watch a few episodes of Lost with my friends. Now, the HDMI button ('F8') wasn't working properly after my little mishap a few months earlier. When I pressed it, the usual, nice little pictures of different laptop-tv settings did not appear. Instead, I tried FN+ALT+F8. This seemed to work. But after we finished, I couldn't get the screen to return to normal again. It's all fuzzy and big, as if I was still connected to the tv.
** I tried personlization, and fizing screen resolution and stuff. It made things a little better, but the screen STILL isn't the same. Funny thing though. When I use print screen, the screen looks NORMAL. This morning, I rebooted my laptop. (Probably the stupidest thing I've ever done) I thought everything would be back to normal, but the screen is still the same, the nice little extras about Vista I was missing before have not returned, and my internet connection is gone.
I have just been reading previous solutions to this problem and understand it is to do with HP. Unfortunately I do not have a disc to insert as I have changed from XP to Vista and the CD I received with my HP printer is for XP, I therefore downloaded the install of the printer from the HP website for Vista. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this annoying installation window that keeps popping up a million times?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Vista U x64 and am having sound problems. I have a prelude x-fi sound card but the sound coming out of it is extremely low. I have maxed out every thing I can max (control panel sound, creative panel) and the sound level is whisper quiet. I have also upgraded all my drivers except the prelude's, I would but their website isn't offering those drivers at the moment. But the drivers supplied with the card are vista certified so I should get something. But my mobo, etc is all updated. I have been searching for a solution for two days to no avail.

Clicking 'Internet' icon gets me the message 'Internet Explorer has stopped working:". I tried 'restore' but it is not working either. I get the message 'an unspecified error occurred during system restore'. I scanned with AVG and the files it scanned are clean.
