i installed vista 64 bit yesterday on a new macine. its a very erarly copy. i seam to be having isues with the windows updates working. it keeps downloading same files over n over. i had to repair vista start up a couple tijes now. im trying the falowing download of ms website i just hope they right. sp1: Windows6.0-KB936330-X64-wave1.exe sp2: Windows6.0-KB948465-X64.exe if this dosent work

If so, I have windows 32 bit os and it is set to install automatically at 3 am, but my compuer is always asleep then, but when I wake it up in the am, I used to get a windows symbol at the bottom right telling me there is an update avail.! Now, it won't do that after the update to sp1? I just recently changed the time to auto. update at 1 pm, when my computer is turned on, so I am waiting to see if it will do that. I have checked the options and they are set right, I just think that after the install of sp1 my os now does not recognize when there is an update avail.

After a repair install, I now have two problems: - Although there are 75 Windows Updates in the list, I have tried several times over the last two days to install these. So far, only a few are marked "Successful". The great majority are marked "Failed". - There is no SP1 available in the list of updates.
Here is the history:
- My laptop was pre-loaded with Vista (no SP1). The OEM DVD was also SP0.
- I installed SP1 when it became available.
- A few days ago, I neede to do a repair install. So I uninstalled SP1, and did a repair install as specified in Brink's tutorial:

- As far as I know, the repair completed successfully. There were no "Files discarded by Windows Upgrade" (Maybe this is important!). I was not asked for my product key, or asked to activate Vista.
- Immediately after the repair, I launched Windows Update, and found the two problems noted above.
BTW: To the best of my knowledge, my laptop is working fine. The minor glitches that prompted the repair install have disappeare.
I have configured my computer to automatically install Windows Important and Recommended Updates. Most Important and Recommended updates are installed automatically. Occasionally when I check Windows Update I get a message that an important update is available and I guess I would have to manually install it. For example, now important update Office Genuine Advantage Notifications is available for me to install. Why are most Windows important updates automatically installed and an occasional Windows important update is made available for me to manually install?

However when i tried following those steps, i got to step 6 and the Windows AIK Command Prompt said it "cannot find the path specified." I'm pretty sure i have the same error as that one though, meaning a corrupted GlobalInstallOrder.xml file. I don't think it can find that file because I'm using a 64-bit system. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop. For last few days I have not been able to install windows updates. I get the error with code 80070641. After wandering through different forums and suggested solutions, I followed this path - control panel > system and maintenance > administrative tools > services > windows installer (double clicked and saw that the start-up type is 'Automatic'). Do not turn of your computer." After a few minutes, my computer will automatically shuts down, and it continuously do the same thing over and over again. The updates are not completed and will always shows "0% completed".

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there is a simple way to take your Vista Installation Disc and use it to create a custom installation disc that also includes updated drivers and updated hotfixes. The goal would be that during a clean install, those updated drivers and Windows Updates are installed automatically.
For a specific example, I use a USB Wireless Adapter. If I could create a custom windows disc that includes those drivers, then I my USB Wireless Adapter would be recognized and I could therefore allow Windows to connect to the Internet during Setup to see if there are any hotfixes and updates.

problem I have is that I do not have vista installation dvd. I am currently studying abroad in Rome and will take more time than I have to receive the dvd in the mail. None of my friends here have one either, but they all have the same make and model computer that I do. Is it possible for one of them create a installation dvd that I could use? Or could they make a recovery disc that could as least get me to the system recovery options screen?
is it safe to install Windows Updates logged into the machine as standard user (as opposed to a Computer Administrator)? Up until now I have always logged into the machine as the Computer Admin specifically to install updates - but is this necessary?

The updates were: 1) Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB960353) and 2) Cypress - Other hardware - HX2LP kit (3.03.0000.2). I have tried system restore but it failed - said it didn't restore. View 9 Replies View RelatedA friend's Vista SP1 PC is failing to install Windows Updates and also some other updates such as those for Itunes. The symptom is that the updates get downloaded but the installation phase never finishes (he's left it for 12 hours!). In the case of the Windows Updates, there are several updates that try to install themselves as the PC is shutdown or even restarted, but the message "Installing 1 of 6" never advances: the only recourse is to switch the PC off.
As I was looking at the PC, I noticed one thing which may have a bearing on this and may even be the cause: the System Restore applet (windowssystem32 strui.exe) fails to run. It displays an initial User Account Control window but the "Restore System Files and Settings - choose a restore point" window never appears. No error message is displayed and there are no entries in any of the Event Log logs.
It occurred to me that if System Restore is buggered, this might prevent any updates working if the first thing they try to do is to create a restore point before installation begins. I can't find any reference to System Restore failing to open its initial Window - I've looked on support.microsoft.com and done a general Google search for "Vista System Restore fails". All the info seems to describe possible problems if you get slightly further and select a restore point which then fails to install properly.
I have 3 updates to Vista Business that will not install; SQL Server 2005 Express SP3 (KB955706), Security Update for SQL Server SP2 (KB954606), & a Security Update for PowerPoint 2007 (KB951338). Over the past few months I have tried updating in safe mode, ran upgrade as admin (even thouigh I log in under admin user group), put the Office CD in the drive before updating, updated in safe mode, unregistered the dll's... Other updates install fine.If I had the time I'd reinstall Vista, but I really do not have the time or patience to do that right now.

Everything works fine and the pc is well up for vista showing a 4.9 in the experience index. The problem i have is that vista has downloaded 33 updates and they will not install, when i click the start button, then the install/ shutdown button it runs through the installing procedure for about 20 minutes than shuts down, when i next reboot the system it says "configuring updates" runs like this for about 20mins then starts as normal. When i check the installed updates, they all show as failed.

See the screenshots. Week ago my hard drive died, so I bought new and reinstalled everything. Fresh system with old Updater updated well, but then new updater installed, and bug returned. I cannot fix by myself because I have no source code of Updater (Microsoft does not publish source code of their products for unknown reason).

I checked and found that Windows wants me to install between 386 and 423 MB of updates -- damn, that's about as much stuff as I have on my HD to start with. These are the updates listed:

-- Microsoft .NET Framework SP1 and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update -- What is this?

I'm unable to install the following Security Updates: Excell 2007, Office Outlook 2007 and 2007 Microsoft Office. I even tried turning off my AVG anti virus before installion. I get only the Error 52F, no other codes. I have tried installing them separately and as stand alone installers from website...same result.

My computer is crashing at least once a day. I've tried going back to various previous restore points, but then, after the "restore process", up pops the message "System retore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. ". In addition I can no longer use task bar tabs in Wordperfect, to, for example change margins. If I do, up on the screen flashes a message saying that I've committed an error, then terminates my word processing screen. Even if I bring up a letter I typed ayear ago and try to change anything, Vista interjects and closes the application.
