I have a Hewlett Packard Media Center comp with Window xp and it won't. ok when I get to the log on screen and it ask for my password I put it in and then that takes about a minute to load and then when it gets through my background pics shows up and that's it! It won't go no further. I don't know what's going on. The toolbars, desktop stuff just wont come up. My mom is gonna take me to get it fixed but I started thinking that everything that's been on my comp will be gone!
I recieved the following message after a forced restart after windows updates were installed: "We are sorry for any inconvenience but Windows was unable to start successfully" My options are to start in Safe Mode , Last known config or normal. Safe Mode is the only thing that works. Also System Restore would not work Also System Recovery from Sony Vaio Recovery Wizard would not work
I have a Dell PC 8250 and over the past two yrs I have managed somehow to increase my start-up time by inadvertently adding to my start-up file. I understand that there is a way to eliminate items in the start-up file but having been to the site, I cannot determine which items to delete without messing up my system. Please advise, and maybe tell me what the basic start up should look like.
My old system hasn't been powered on for about a year. Problem was the onboard video failed replaced it with a video card from another system (riva TNT) and bought some memory system wouldn't boot, determined that the memory was bad Now the system booted but win2K wouldn't work. No problem I have XP now. After multiple error during the xp install I finally got through it.only the computer will only boot in safe mode. Initially thought it was a hardare conflict so I booted in safe mode with networking and systematically cleared all the yellow.
In a not updated Version of Windows XP you can run (Start-run) "start"command at the Run dialog just typing it, when you update windows andwrite the same "start" into Run dialog Windows shows a error message >Windows cannot find `start`. Make sure you typed the name correctly,and then try again. To search for the file, click the Start button, andthen click Search.If you are in CMD the `start` command works fine but the problem is thein Run dialog windows doesn’t recognize it ?
It never would start windows normal but would in safe mode,so now i did a diskcheck and restarted now it gets hung up on the system32driversagp440.sys...at least thats the last one that pops up before it freezes.
I admit it...I moved my startup folder from C drive to D and now I am dead in the water. The computer is a Sony PCV RS420 with Windows XP Home Edition with all the updates. When I start the comp. I get "SONY" on the screen and thats it. Unresponsive to all F commands.
I have experienced a sudden problem starting programs. The computer boots correctly, and all desktop icons appear correctly. But when I double click a desktop icon, or start a program from the start menu, I get a popup window displaying a list of programs and asking me which program I want to use to start the application. I select the correct program (or browse to the appropriate .exe file), but still the application doesn't start. This includes IE and Windows Messenger. My virus scanner was about the only thing that I could start up, and I did a system scan with Panda Anti-Virus, but it didn't show anything substantial (just some cookies).Using my WinXP set up disk,I've tried to do a repair (I guess reinstallation without reformatting the hard disk), but after I entered the License Key, the computer did a reboot and then stopped. It is stuck on the XP splash screen and won't go any further (I once let it run over night, but it was still frozen on the splash screen). I even tried to repeat the repair process, but that didn't work.Automatic updates did download an update just before this problem started (I think it was the day before the problems began). I don't know what this update was and I'm not sure it was SP3 (system does have SP2 installed).Considering that the computer freezes now when booting up, is there anything that I can do short of reformatting the Hard Drive? I also have another hard drive that I can use to install XP onto. Is there any way that I can rescue the data from the old Hard Drive and transfer to new drive?
I believe its a problem with the actual start up button instead of the computer itself, ive pried the thing open, seeing the generator is on, everythings in place and there are lights on, showing there is power. any ideas?
We are trying to start a laptop but windows is not starting up properly. As the boot begins, it takes you to a screen that says, :"if a previous start up attempt was inturrupted due to a power failure, then choose Start Windows Normally". We follow the directions, takes us the Window XP screen trying to boot it up and then takes us to the Gateway screen and then back to the screen where it asks the same question again.The cycles continues without any other options.
I have a Compaq Presario desk top. one gig memory. XP which is up to date. Run AVG free, windows defender, threatfire, spybot.I am on a cable hookup with a linksys BEFSR41 router. Turn off the computer each night.Right now I am using a laptop connected to the router to access the internet. the desktop would take a long time to start up applications but when they did start up things ran ok. This morning, I power up and the computer will go thru the speed start up list but will not start up anything from the start menu, just get the hour glass. On start alt delete, it says 99 percent system idle. On start up I hit the f10 key to start up a compaq system restore and it will not go.get the message system registry file failure, hive file, system root system32 configsecurity corrupt, absent, or not write able.
How do i get to the little menu where I can choose which applications automatically start up when Windows starts up and which do not? I forgot how to get to that menu but I remember that I could check and uncheck which things would start up, etc. The reason for this is because everytime I start windows, it tries to load my scanning software which I don't need started anymore due to the scanner not being connected at all anymore, and the un installation not going as properly as it should of.. but it just bugs me that it tries to connect to the scanner (with about 3-4 attempts) when Windows starts so this is my best option.
My compaq is having problems starting up. It makes a repetitious sound like the hard drive is trying to start but can't and will continue to do so indefinately or until it boots. So I assumed it was a hdd issue, however trying the hd in another laptop worked fine and an alternate hd in my Compaq has the same problem. It does start up occasionally, although it usually freezes half way through booting up, but can occasionally work upto half an hour.
Im new, so bear with me please. The problem is on my old Sony Viao Model PCG-6H4L XP. I wanted to start fresh and the recovery system for windows gives me only a limited number of dates. I thought that the Viao recovery would do the job.I was wrong. I haven't checked recent forums about problems with this, so I went ahead and broke my laptop. Before the Recovery system starts, my laptop says, with a black background.
I have an older somputer I use to Host Games online...seemed fine last few nite .however the last 2 oe 3 times I have started it...it takes forever to start and a screen appears saying sorry for any inconveinince but windows could not start..etc etc..gives options to start in Normal mode safe mode or last known good configuration..wich is what I tried after turning it off and back on again..still nothing..I can get it to start in safe mode....but it wont boot up in normal mode..just hangs at "Windows XP" screen...Its an older Pentium4 Dell Dimension4300.
So my sister gets hold of a computer in the house and ruins it, and here is the dilemma I am facing: I turn on the computer and right away i come to this message.... Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configSYSTEM Attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the Original CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts. I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.
When i turn on my laptop I get a message that windows cannot start and I need to select from a list of ways to start..Each option brings me back to the same message and I cannot get the Windows System to start. The laptop is a Toshiba Sattelite and Windows is 2000 xp home edition.
My PC just froze and I had to shut it down. when I tried to go a google search it wouldn't give me any results, just a black screen. Then it froze. From that point on it wouldn't load Windows XP. It just won't start it properly - it goes on to the Windows XP loading page with the little blue bar but then just clicks off and won't do what it usually does. At first it gave me an option of starting in safe mode, starting normally or using the last known configuration to start properly. Now it won't even give me that choice, I think this may have something to do with the fact I've got two HD's in there (a 20gb as the C: drive then a 120gb extra that has been partitioned for storage). In truth, I'm not sure about anything though.
My real problem is that I can't get into Windows. I haven't backed up
Noise was coming from his pc towercase, we opened the case and found that some wires were pressing up against the side of case cooling fan, when we moved them, the noise dissappeared, however when we put everything back together and turned everything back on, we found that we'd get the Windows XP start screen for about 5- 8 seconds before the screen went absolutely blank. We opened the case again to see if we accidently disconnected anything, and tried again - without much success. Neither of us are particularly pc savvy, and realise we prolly should'nt have opened the case.
When I press on the power button, the pc doesn't run at all. Not even the processor. So far I have the the power supply change and also check all the power connectors to make sure they are not loose. I am not sure can the motherboard battery cause this problem?
I have Dell Dim 4300S. It has been inactive for several months. When turning power button on, iget a screen that states windows was unsuccessful in starting.
A blue screen comes up stating Registry_error.window attempts to start but then goes to a black screen that states many options that do not work.
I recently upgraded my PC (Win XP) to service pack 2. It was ok, but rather slow and there was some minor errors using applications. 2 days later, it won't let me into my account. It takes ages on the Windows loading screen.
Relatives XP Home. Three week old HP set up with 1 user and no logon screen. Makes it through POST, starts Windows, but hangs at welcome screen. Will not enter safe mode. Restoring to most recent good configuration from F8 menu results in same outcome. Has me stumped. I must troubleshoot through novice via telephone at this point.
I tried to switch the hard drives but couldn't get windows to load. I used the restore disk that came with the original computer on both hard drives and it says "windows has been restored, remove the disk and reboot". When I reboot it shows some system information then stops at a screen that basically says I've made a major change or there was a power interruption during start up and have a few choices including boot into safe mode, boot into last known working configuration or restart windows. Each option brings me back to the same three options and windows never loads.
A Dell Dimension 2400. It's a Pentium 4 2.2ghz processor with Windows XP home edition and that's all I know.
When we try to boot up the computer, it displays the Dell screen, then the Windows XP loading screen, then it just goes black. The backup XP discs are lost and I'm trying to help him get this computer running.

OS wouldn't start up. It'd show the loading screen for a long while, then the monitor would stop receiving any signal. When I restart, it shows a black screen with a blinking underscore. I'm using Windows XP Pro.
I have a computer that is running a pre-installed XP Professional (I do not have the original installation disks). I switched on my PC and instead of loading XP as usual.
My Pc won't start and no fans will run, not even the power supply fan. Suspected the power supply went out, but it checked out ok, so decided the Mobo was bad. Got a new mobo, but system still won't start and no fans will run and I have shorted across the Power SW pins. Does this automatically mean that the CPU is bad, or are there other possibilities?
I had an alert from HP saying there was a new updated to my DVD driver. I click ok to d/l and then ok to reset. I went away from my PC for about two hours and came back and now it will not turn on. I reset it tried everything and the message I keep getting is: "Windows error, Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software might have caused this" I tried all the opinions I was presented "Start Windows normally," "Start Windows in the last good configuration," Start in safe mode (networking, command prompts)" Still it will keep looping back to this same screen.
