Cannot Reinstallation Disc - Recognizing Wireless Card
Nov 22, 2009i have a dell inspiron 1300 laptop with windows XP, i also have a desktop 2400 with windows XP. I did something real stupid the laptop did not come with a reinstallation disc. So i figured the windows XP disc i got with my desktop i could reformat my laptop. i was gravely mistaken it seams that now i can't get on the internet. because it's not recognizing that i have a wireless card in my laptop.

Aug 7, 2008let me start by saying I have had a horrible time with wireless networks for my PC. I have a PC downstairs and a PC upstairs (they are about 10 feet apart through the floor). The PC downstairs is connected to the router/modem. I recently bought a new gateway adapter (Realtek RTL8185). I installed it and everything was fine. Now my problem is every 2 minutes it disconnects, but then reconnects right back (this is bad news for online gaming). The speed is okay, but I have tried reinstalling and everything. It works fine after a restart, but then it starts to disconnect/reconnect, and then just stop all together.

Jul 27, 2006My son purchased a 'NEW and LEGAL' game called warcraft 3. The game installed ok (presumably) When he clicks play the cd spins for a couple of minutes and then we get the message '' check cd is in drive and click retry'. I have searched the net and tried all info I have found but to no avail. Even went through Blizzard.nets 12 step troubleshooter for this problem. The disk drive is fine with all other games and the game is fine when tested on a friends comp. I have win xp home and virus free, adaware done.Obviously there is some setting on my comp that is causing this and I am lost as to where to look next. Some security setting that is clashing with it? I have noticed there is c-dilla? on the system and that is a copy protection program, could this cause problems. As I said the game is genuine and would prefer a comp fix other than a nocd crack.This is day six of trying, my son is 'over it' but I cant let the comp win any help would be appreciated.

Jun 15, 2008My password (administrator) and wife's password are not being recognized, therefore we cannot log onto windows. We are certain the correct passwords are being entered. My password includes an uppercase "U" but I noticed that when I hit shift+U a charecter is not entered and the cursor moves one space left. When I strike U with the capslock on a charecter is entered but the password is still not recognized. I tried to boot into safe mode but I am still required to enter a password and encounter the same problems.

In device manager an exclamation shows and I've been unable to find either an XP or more up to date driver. Jun 22, 2005I had a hard drive whose partition table got corrupted. It is no longer recognized in Windows (2000) as a valid drive (Do you wish to format, etc). I CAN, however, boot with a Win 98 diskette and DOS sees the hard drive. I want to copy selected files to another win 2000 hard drive but because of the win 98 boot, the file names are truncated to the 8 character limit. Can I boot up with something else to see the long file names and preserve them when copying. I have Ghost and XXCOPY. Win 2000 boot floppies?
Failed Internet Connection - CD/RW Is Not Recognised
Aug 8, 2005Main computer in home on Comcast cable..........CD/RW suddenly was not recognized and internet stopped working. Switched out modem, still no internet. Comcast tech came out, ran everthing to his computer and internet worked. Plugged modem in via USB and tried to load USB drivers, but no CD/RW...I took CD to secondary computer (hooked up to the main by wireless connection) to download drivers onto a floppy and THIS CD/RW would not recognize the data CD.......in explorer it showed the D: drive but would not read the data CD...I put in a music CD and in explorer it showed everything listed on the CD...........
CD/RW worked briefly on main computer (long enough to load the USB drivers), and even connected to Internet via USB in the modem.....but again, the CD/RW quit and the internet connection was lost again. Do you make any sense of this? I'm so tired of all of it.
Refuse To Record / Recognised Illegal Discs
Dec 4, 2008I purchased new blank Sony 700 MB CD RW's for a little more capacity. Windows & my Nero 8 both eventually refuse to record to the discs because they are recognizing them as "illegal discs". This error message must result from the size of the disc as I have no problems with 650 MB discs. I was able to record to one of the discs with another computer.This second computer is 64 bit XP VS my 32 bit. The burners are identical, and the Nero 7 used is nearly identical.I then erased the disc (with Nero 7) and tried it in the problem computer same issue.

Apr 25, 2005I have a 60GB Seagate HDD running Windows XP, which when connected as the Master Drive will no longer boot Windows. Instead I get an error screen reading "Disk Boot Failure - Insert System Disk and Press Enter."The drive is recognised by the BIOS approximately 1/4 of the time I have it plugged in. I have attempted to run the drive as a slave to my current HD on the same motherboard which I am running at the moment to no avail. I have tried using the program "GetDataBack for NTFS" which failed to recognise the drive.

I was asked to locate the ethernet port at the back of my printer, plug the ethernet port cable and connect it to the Verizon router. Unfortunately, my printer does not have an ethernet port. I was told to call HP,and I did but did not get much help.What should I do to get my wireless printer work? I have a PC and a laptop. Prior to Verizon, I have a DSL and Vonage, both routers and print server did not have the same problem.

I have also checked Device Manager and there is no wireless adapter. Before this exercise she was running wireless fine. It does work 'hard wired' but no wireless icon.

Mar 1, 2009We have two laptops and one wireless (HP Photosmart C7280) printer. Our laptops both connect to the internet wirelessly through a router. I was able to install and can print wirelessly from my laptop (a Mac) with no problems. However, we cannot figure out how to print wirelessly from my boyfriend's laptop (a Dell). We have installed the printer software and the printer itself on his laptop, and the laptop is able to identify the wireless printer over the network. We made sure that the printer is set to "online" and that file/printer sharing is turned on. But, whenever we go to print any kind of a file, we get an error message simply stating that the printer was unable to print and that we should run the troubleshooter. So, we run the troubleshooter, and we get this message:"The troubleshooter was not able to ping (detect a connection with) your print server. This might be the cause of the problem. Verify that your network is configured correctly and that you are connected to the network."
I am more used to working with Macs and my boyfriend is computer illiterate, so we're a bit lost as to what this means. I was able to set up a wireless network connection on his laptop, but beyond that I'm not sure what else to do. Most of the other advice I've seen online involves a wireless printer that is wired to one computer, and another laptop trying to wirelessly access that printer through the connected computer...if that makes any sense. Our printer isn't wired to anything, and we just can't figure out why it'll print wirelessly on the Mac but not on the Dell laptop. Any ideas?

Sep 18, 2007I have aproblem with my XP machine.when i boot up the small wireless icon says its not connected,Also when i click to view available wireless networks that there are none in range, i reboot the pc and it might resolve it .More often than not it doesnt.Also i sometimes get a yellow exclamation mark over the wlan in device manager.I update the driver and it resolves until next time i boot back up the pc.Wireless switch is on. My 2 other pcs wrk perfect.

Mar 12, 2010If i log onto my computer and just go into network connections, the computer is not able to look for wireless networks. if i hit the button to find networks, it gives me some strange error message. i have noticed though that i can fix the problem if i manually go into services and start the wireless zero configuration service myself. i configured this service to start automatically, and to keep restarting if attempts to start fail, but for whatever reason, the service does not start on its own when i boot the computer. once i start the service, i am able to connect without any problems.
The error message i get says something about finding more than one wirless device. i have a belkin usb wireless card, and before i installed the one i have now, i had another that coincidentally was the same size and also made by belkin. thinking that maybe some software was still on the computer, causing it to find both, and consequently not being able to connect to either, i uninstalled all the software for both routers and deleted all the related program files off of the computer. then i reinstalled and...got the same exact problem.

Oct 5, 2008It's got to the time where I need to do this and I have done it numerous times in the past but this time I am having problems.
Last week bought two new 500gb harddrives and replaced my existing 300gb slave. Formatted and partitioned this and all was okay.
Today I have removed the 300gb master and installed, formatted and partitioned the new 500gb hd with PM8.
I have set the primary partition as active and all the others are logical which is asthe old hd was partitioned.
I have been geting a disk boot failure error on trying to boot from the CDROM with the XP installation disk. Having originaly had the bios set incorrectly I have now rechecked it and ensured the boot order is set to CDROM, HD-0 and the floppy.
I have ensured that the primary hd has been detected, detection is set to to Auto and Access Mode to LBA following the Seagate instructions. I have now also disconnected the secondary drive to exclude that from the picture until I get into the primary drive.
I have also reset the jumper on the new primary to Master having disconnected the secondary drive.

Oct 18, 2010This problem only occurs with any version of windows XP, Pro/Home/Media, at first, i could never install ie8 through windows update. It wouldnt install properly and sometimes i would have to start the installation over and not do it through windows update and do it manually with the downloadable file. So we learned our way around that no problem and its not a hassle to install it seperatly, but the BIGGEST PAIN IN THE A** we are having now is, when we reinstall widows, either on a new HD, Old, or even on a brand new custom built computer

May 10, 2005Earlier tonight I switched the hard drives between my computer and my mothers computer, because (ironically) her's was better for gaming. After a quick reinstall of XP Home Edition, my computer was good to go. But setting hers up proved to be a bit more of a challenge.I loaded up the hard drive, booted up with the XP Pro Edition (it's what she uses) and the installation was going great. At about 9 minutes left, I get the error message saying something like: "This software has not passed the Windows Logo Test and will not be installed" or something to that nature. I clicked OK, it popped up again, I clicked OK again. This time, the installation finished up and strangely everything started up. I logged into one of the accounts, only to find that no icons had loaded and everything was going horribly slow. I couldn't right click on the desktop. I couldn't click on the start button. The only thing I was able to do was click on the bar at the bottom, which does me no good at all anyway. Something was using up the computers resources like mad, and strangely the LAN light on the DSL modem was going berserk.
I'm thinking maybe a complete reinstall will do the trick. The only problem is that when trying to do a fresh install on the C: it popped up with a warning message saying "Installing an OS onto a partitioned drive that already contains an OS may result in software not running properly." I backed away from this and re-tried the repair installation. To my dismay, the error came back up again. I'm calling it quits for now and hope to have a reply tomorrow. I really need to get this fixed soon As a side note, I used the 'Repair Installation' choice on my Hard Drive, and everything works right now. For some reason XP Pro is a bit picky. How do I get passed this error to the point where the computer is useable again?
Very Slow Windows Xp Even After Reinstallation
Apr 12, 2007my system is really slow.I ran many virus scanners, spy/adware destroyers, and programs to clean and fix your registry but they didnt do anything. so i finally just reinstalled XP, i got all the suggested drivers and updated to service pack 2 and got all the windows updates, but its still just as slow.when i run it in safe mode, it works like a charm, just like it used to.

May 11, 2007Someone gave me a laptop that didn't work. It's a HP Pavillion ze 4900.It originally had xp home on it, so I ordered a new disk to install on it. It was saying that some files were not found. It would do nothing. It also has a password on it. I did find out the password from them.
