I have Windows XP 64-bit Edition installed. I have here a .exe file that I need to run in command prompt. When I run it it says it is for another machine type. I understand that this means it's for 32-bit Windows. I'm wondering if there are any ways to work around this and make this executable work.

I have a user with a home driectory that has created a folder with mutliple folders within it. I am not sure how far the direcroty goes, but I have counted to at least 26 directories deep. I cannot delete the parent folder in either explorer, or from the prompt. At the prompt I have tried RD foldername and it says, "Folder not empty". Tried del foldername*.* with no error and still cannot delete it.

The only one I have it the recover cd, but it is my understanding that if I use the recovery cd that I will erase everything from my computer and I can not do this.I tried to read the other threads about the same problem, but to be honest I do not understand them and I just do not have the startup cd - maybe it is the same as the recovery cd?

So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.
I've deleted, created anew and formatted one of the logical partitions on my drive (a former NTFS partition) to FAT32 using Partition Magic 8.05. Now, in Partition Magic it says that this drive is now FAT32. But windoze reports that it is RAW.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIt's a shame that me did a grave error. I am in terrible shock for that I did the following:
a) Installed Sun Solaris Express x86 Developer Edition with a 7.5 GB partition.
b) There is Windows XP SP2 on the first 20 GB partition.
I wanted to toggle boot flag by using DOS based fdisk after the Solaris installation. That's where me screwed up I ran a bootable Russian language DOS tools. Instead of toggling the boot flag (option 2 in the fdisk), me accidentally (while taking an overseas call) selected (option 1) the FAT formatting the existing NTFS partition (fdisk ran for 1%, then me immediately stopped and rebooted. But, already damage done My NTFS got screwed up by me.....
I don't know how this happened. But when I went to my D drive which is My Documents, the drive was empty. Though when I check the drive properties it shows that 18G is being used, plus it's showing that the file system is RAW. Not sure how it got that way because it should be NTFS. I am able to view My Pictures and My Music by viewing from the start menu and going to My Pictures or My Music, but when I go to My Documents it's empty.
Now my question is how do I recover those missing files? I'm assuming that they are around because My Pictures and My Music are two of the files that are in my documents folder. This just leaves 25% of the drive I can't view. I can't do system restore because I don't have the D drive being monitored, so I can't do that. I did a virus scan and a spyware scan and the system is clean. Another thing I noticed is if I try to save something to the D drive it will appear to be the only item on the drive, but when I click refresh it will vanish.
Will system restore restore a deleted windows.exe file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy CD ROM/DVD player recently stopped working on my Omitech computer. From My Computer - I can't see the drive anymore. In the device manager - it has a yellow exclamation mark on it. I tried updating the driver but the message was that the software was already the best match. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it says a file is missing or corrupt. I bought a new external CD ROM - but have the exact same problem with it. I went to Run and put in sfc /scannow and there were problems that maybe could be fixed - if only it could read the XP CD - then it could fix the CD ROM. But it can't read the CD because of the problem with the CD ROM. (a whole in my bucket story.) So - how can I fix the problem if it wants a CD to fix the problem but the CD ROM is not working to read the CD?

Trying to help upgrade my hard drive. I have a Local C drive 20 GB and I have a Maxtor 120 GB in my E: drive. I have previously sent an exact image copy of my C drive to my E: drive using Norton's ghost 9.0 symantec. Since he has tinkered with my Hard drive it is not even recognizing a file system at all. It asks if I want to format the drive and I know that will wipe it out completely if I do that. The exact warning or prompt that shows goes as follows. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and the volume is not corrupted. I run windows XP home edition and my computer is a pentium 3 300 SE by gateway.

Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool."
