View 11 Replies View RelatedThe problem is the computer keeps losing its video display. Just went black. I reinstall the drivers and restart and the computer runs fine. Use fine, then after its been on for awhile it goes black again. Weird. I have the newest drivers and all the windows updates loaded. It just keeps going out. I have tried several screens as well to rule out the monitor freaking out.

Now when booting up the log in screen doesnt come on but i can still log in and then still no display when in windows...I think I just need to enable a video card driver but cant see anything on screen so i have no clue on what to do.

View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen i try to play news clips on msnbc.msn the player appears with the loading message at the bottom. it just sits there, but doesn't load and play the video. i can go to othe sites, ie, Internet, and it plays fine. i know this sounds like a missing codec, but it's hard to believe that ms wouldn't already have that codec loaded to play clips from msn. i can play them on my destop pc, winxp pro, wmp10, without additonal codecs. i upgraded the laptop to wmp11, but that didn't work, so i rolled back to wimp10.

I just replaced a power supply on a Windows XP computer and when it boots up, the os loads just fine, the startup programs begin to load and during this the display settings automatically change from 800x600 32-bit color to 640x480 8-bit color. It has a GeForce 440 MX card and all the drivers and such are working fine. I've tried everything fix it, but am having a less than fun time. Any suggestions would be great.

Simultaneously, with this appearing I started having issues with windows media player not play .mod files, using web help it says that I need to update my audio drivers, but according to Dell they are good. The Plug & Play Software Device Enumerator is failing to load the required drivers. now i've done alot of searching and i've found a solution that worked for others uninstall Plug & Play Software Device Enumerator from the Device Manager find the 'machine.inf' file and copy it to your desktop open your copy of 'machine.inf' and delete the following (on line20)- ExcludeFromSelect=* then, Add new hardware. follow the steps until you see the Have Disk button click Have Disk and select 'machine.inf' from your desktop[not sure abt this step] if you need to, re-install your sound drivers

In the mean time, I press Ctrl-P and set the copies to 1, but all too often I wind up forgetting about the glitch and make two extra copies that aren't needed. View 2 Replies View RelatedDuring System startup, the system always halts at "Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility". The only way I can manage to boot to Windows is by selecting "Boot to utility partition" from the Boot Device Menu or if there is a Windows XP installation CD in the cd-rom drive. When I boot this way, everything works fine .This behavior started when I performed a fresh install of XP Professional (XP Home came with the system). The problem did not start immediately after the installation; I was able to install some drivers and reboot a couple times (maybe twice) before it happened. When I installed the display driver (from Dell) and rebooted, it went to the "Strike F1. " screen. I have since tried another fresh installation of XP Home (the original OS) and the problem is still occuring. This time it occurs immediately after the installation; No drivers have been installed at this point.
View 16 Replies View RelatedFirst my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

I tried with all the usb ports on this computer and problem is the same. Even by hooking up a usb keyboard or mouse, computer wont get to the login screen. it keeps on restarting. I then shut my computer down to restart it, used it a few times (in 4-bit safe mode), then after I shutdown again, I cant log back in... it just freezes and the screen flashes, I cannot boot into my computer setup (default f2) or into safe mode (default f8), however I can run the XP cd and get into the recovery console, is there any way that I can change the boot sequence from the recovery console? The screen is dotted with a bunch of dots up and down the screen in columns, and is in 4-bit video mode.
