I have a User that Logs onto the PC on a Domain. No problems (Win2k Pro)! The User leaves her Desk and the Screen Saver (set for whatever Time and Password Protected). She comes back and tries to unlock her station. She can't! It gives her a Wrong password error Then it locks her account out! So there are two ways to fix this. Reset the Password which is a Hassle the Root of the Problem the Screensaver.
I have a minor irritation. I downloaded a windows xp update and now when the screensaver comes on it takes me to the welcome screen to log back on. It used to just take me to the log-on. This computer is used by 3 people and none of them like this as it takes "extra time" to click on the icon and then type in the password. When I right-click on the desktop and go to properties, screensaver instead of it saying "On resume, password protect" beside the check box it says "On resume, Display welcome screen" It used to say the former.
I click the unlock button, it doesn't work.. I've tried WinRAR/WinZIP They both give me some Error... >.> Also I tried that .REG file. What can I do? Also, the intergrated .ZIP thing wont work either.
i recently bought a used toshiba sattelite laptop while out of town got it back home and found that its password protected, o.s. is windows xp home, how do i get around this ?
I was given an 'old' Dell laptop (Celeron, 600Mhz, 256MB RAM, 20GB HDD, NIC card, floppy disk drive) as well as the reinstallation CD that has XP Pro on it. I've got two roadblocks that I can't seem to get around: The logon is password protected. This laptop was used by a company where each employee logged onto a network. I have the username and password, but, since I'm not connected to that network, it does no good. The computer can't authenticate the password and I don't have access to the network. The laptop came with a floppy drive, not a CD drive.
Is there any way possible to get to the C: prompt to reformat the HD? I am able to get into the boot order setup. Once the HD is reformatted,How can I get the reinstallation done without a CD drive? I've already thought about (and actually copied the CD to) a USB thumb drive, but the boot order doesn't give an option to boot from a USB.Is it worth the $10 - $20 to get a CD drive for this laptop off of eBay?
I got a problem: i had an old user account, it was password-protected, i reinstalled OS and i cannot acces files stored into the old account -my documents- folder. What can i do to recover all of them?
I have a laptop(dell latitude cpi) my kid entered a password and now I can't access windows. Every time I turn it on a message comes on saying:This computer system#xxxxx is protected by a password authentication system you can not access the data without the correct password Please type in the primary or administrator password. My kid does not remember what password he used. Does any body Knows how to remove the password since I can not access the bios either?
I rent my laptop out for wireless cctv use. I have set up two user accounts,my own(administrator) and another which I call video. My account is protected via a password so the renters can only use video. When they open the video account I dont want them having internet access but cant seem to delete explorer without deleting it from the whole computer. Basically, I want to have net access when logged in as administrator but dont want anyone else having net access when the laptop is out on rental. Can i password protect explorer? Or delete it from a specific user account? I have windows XP on a 05 HP Presario. I'm also a mac user most of the time hence the complete lack of any PC knowledge.
I have a screen saver selected and have checked "On resume, password protect". It works perfectly. However, I want to be able to start the screen saver from a shortcut which I created to the SCR file. The problem is it's not password protected. How can I start it when I walk away from my desk and have it password protected? I know how to lock the machine with WinKey + L or ALT+CTL+DEL but I want the screen saver on password protected when I lock the machine.
I don't wish to waste anyone's time, but I haven't seen the answer I'm looking for. My gilrfriends son messed up her Media Center computer and his father used F10 instead of system restore, but the files are still there. To prevent this from occurring again, my girlfriend asked me to password protect the computer. I set myself up as the adminstrator, since I build computers and have the most knowledge, but have only been using XP for the past 6 months. I've read that the account is now hidden and know how to access it from safe mode. When I set it up, it asked me if I wanted to protect the files and folders, such as My Documents. Stupid me did this. Now even though I have set my girlfriend up with an adminstator account, I can't find a way to share or allow her to access those files, and all her pics are there. I also can't delete the admistrator account I made, even though it says that can be done through her adminstrator account, but there is no option there. I want to do two things. I want to unprotect the files and folders I made private, and I want to delete the adminstrator account I made. F10 restore or system restore won't even do this.
I'm trying to limit access to my PC through the password protect feature of my screensaver. When I configure my screensaver a box that says "On resume, Display Welcome screen". I checked this box, so that the screensaver will go to the Welcome Screen when it exits. This works fine if the screensaver is initiated by windows automatically (when the appropriate time of inactivity elapses). However, I've created a shortcut to the screensaver, and when I double-click it, the screensaver loads, but when I deactivate it (move the mouse, press a key) it does not go the the Welcome Screen, so the computer is not locked.
I am running Windows XP Pro and have recently upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003. On the Office XP toolbar there used to be a shortcut to screensaver that allowed the password protection to still work. Many discussion groups wrongly state that this shortcut doesn't provide the password protection. I think that this is only the case when the shortcut is to a particular .scr file, rather than the general screensaver function. MSoft have ditched the toolbar in Office 2003 and I can't find the target of the Office XP toolbar shortcut.
I recently started college not too long ago and I've been having a little issues with the security of my Gateway laptop running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack II. I would like to enable the prompt for password feature when returning from a screen saver. However, when I go into the options, the only thing I can check is 'On resume, display welcome screen'. I've searched around a bit more but can't seem to find anything.
For security reasons, Microsoft does not allow parents (computer administrators) to check on, maintain, adjust or otherwise enter their kids' (limited users) XP profiles without either resetting their passwords or waiting for them to come home and being confrontational about it.Ideally I would like to be able to log on to a limited user account from my administrator account without tampering with anyone's passwords-resetting them or otherwise. Actually, I have little interest in the (step) kids' personal life and stuff. Alternately, perhaps you may help me with my ultimate goal: limiting screensaver activity:
Hello folks, We are about to push a policy to remove everyone from the local administrators group on their local PCs. We are also creating a template to allow all users to access certain hives in the registry. Is there a hive or key that could unlock Disk Defragmenter for anyone to access.
It may because I instilled some software. after that, everytime I open the "display properties"-->>"desktop",my computer will read "My pictures"folder, and trying to load all the pictures in the "Background" list.which are almost 2GB pictures.it is very slow, and my computer halted for a long time.
I locked "my documents" and i cant unlock becouse that program does not working.I downloaded and reinstalled but it wont work. System restore was off so i cant rollback and i cant unnistall program If i try open the my documents it says-C:documents and settingsadministratorMy documents refers to a location that is unavailable.it could be on a hardrive on this computer,or on a network.check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted,or that you are connected to your computer or to a network, and then try again.if it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a diffrent location.
After a recent crash, my IBM ThinkPad's hard drive has completely accessible files, but doesn't boot.I bought an external hard drive enclosure to access the data, and this works great, with one exception-My personal user files were password-protected, and when I try to view them remotely, I recieve an error message saying "Access is Denied." I'm running Windows XP (an insecure system) so there has to be some way around this obstacle, right?
I have a Kingmax 256MB Memory stick which we used once and went to format it and got the prompt "Write Protected Disk" can any one tell how to unwrite protect it. It has no switch on it to lock it or write protect it.

My friend downloaded songs from her cd's onto her computer and emailed them to me. I am currently running Windows XP, Windows Media Player 10 and I just recently got rid of IE and installed Firefox. When I try to play the songs, they are license protected. It redirects me to the microsoft page to download the license and and error pops up reading "Error: Your netscape browser does not have mircosoft windows media services plug-ins installed." I went to the plug-ins section in Firefox and it is not there. I tried downloading a couple of different plug-ins from microsoft and none of them made a difference. How do I get this plug-in?
