Screensaver Shortcut With Password Protection

I am running Windows XP Pro and have recently upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003. On the Office XP toolbar there used to be a shortcut to screensaver that allowed the password protection to still work. Many discussion groups wrongly state that this shortcut doesn't provide the password protection. I think that this is only the case when the shortcut is to a particular .scr file, rather than the general screensaver function. MSoft have ditched the toolbar in Office 2003 and I can't find the target of the Office XP toolbar shortcut.

when I turn on my pc (running xp), I get a password popup, and upon completing the information, startup is resumed.it's always me using the pc. how can I disable this password protection so that when I turn the pc on, it'll take me directly to my desktop w/o any password requests, etc.

I have a User that Logs onto the PC on a Domain. No problems (Win2k Pro)! The User leaves her Desk and the Screen Saver (set for whatever Time and Password Protected). She comes back and tries to unlock her station. She can't! It gives her a Wrong password error Then it locks her account out! So there are two ways to fix this. Reset the Password which is a Hassle the Root of the Problem the Screensaver.

I'm trying to limit access to my PC through the password protect feature of my screensaver. When I configure my screensaver a box that says "On resume, Display Welcome screen". I checked this box, so that the screensaver will go to the Welcome Screen when it exits. This works fine if the screensaver is initiated by windows automatically (when the appropriate time of inactivity elapses). However, I've created a shortcut to the screensaver, and when I double-click it, the screensaver loads, but when I deactivate it (move the mouse, press a key) it does not go the the Welcome Screen, so the computer is not locked.

I have a minor irritation. I downloaded a windows xp update and now when the screensaver comes on it takes me to the welcome screen to log back on. It used to just take me to the log-on. This computer is used by 3 people and none of them like this as it takes "extra time" to click on the icon and then type in the password. When I right-click on the desktop and go to properties, screensaver instead of it saying "On resume, password protect" beside the check box it says "On resume, Display welcome screen" It used to say the former.

I recently started college not too long ago and I've been having a little issues with the security of my Gateway laptop running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack II. I would like to enable the prompt for password feature when returning from a screen saver. However, when I go into the options, the only thing I can check is 'On resume, display welcome screen'. I've searched around a bit more but can't seem to find anything.

For security reasons, Microsoft does not allow parents (computer administrators) to check on, maintain, adjust or otherwise enter their kids' (limited users) XP profiles without either resetting their passwords or waiting for them to come home and being confrontational about it.Ideally I would like to be able to log on to a limited user account from my administrator account without tampering with anyone's passwords-resetting them or otherwise. I have a dell inspiron 531 desk top windows XP2000 service pack 3 and IE8 I just added Avira , and everything seems a little slower but works, what I didn't know is my fire wall is in windows essentials an they are both running Avira also ,and I do know its not to good to have conflicts between 2 malware protectors, should I dump Avira or essentials? I kinda of hop you tell me to keep essentials because its true Microsoft.

I scanned through the past posts and didn't see anything on this recently. (which surprised me.I'm running a Dell xps T500 with Windows XP SP2 and IE7 Browser. I'm on a home network (cable) with ethernet and using Norton 360 for the protection suite. I also have Webroot SpySweeper and all udpates have been completed. All current scans have been done as well. MS updates were installed via auto update and now IE 7 gives me the error "IE cannot display the webpage" which stops me from getting to any other website (so I can download Mozilla ). I have gone out to the MS site and run through the troubleshooting options there:1) Can't view another webpage2)Network diagnostics reveal no problems3)Reset the modem/routers4)Deleted Browsing History5)Used the No Add-Ons Mode6)Disabled Norton 7)Tested the connected in safe mode, still got the error8)No third party conflicts9)Checked the device manager for issues, and found none10)Finally, reset the IE defaults, rebooted and still got the stupid error

Before getting Win XP, I used Zone Alarm..it served me well.I used to test how good ZA was by using the tests found at www.grc.com. My PC always passed.I just tested my computer with grc's 'leak test' and it FAILED! My PC was penetrated.Does this mean that the firewall provided by Win XP is not doing it's job? If so, should I go back to ZA and disable XP's firewall? (2) I also just heard that Windows Media Player is also a good vehicle for spyware to infiltrate my PC. How can I stop this short of uninstalling the program?

My write protection seems to be activated on all folders.The box where the check is supposed to be is blackened and when I click to remove it, it goes away.However when I try to remove the folder an error pops up and when I bring up the properties again it shows the box is blackened again.I don't seem to have a problem with files, it only seems to be the folders.

DEP has been closing my browsers for the past few days. Right now I'm using Start>Search>Search the internet.

I've been having trouble with popups recently and can't seem to clear them. I updated both Spy Bot S&D and Ad-Aware, and ran some scans in safe-mode and a normal boot. I've also ran scans with Anti Virus which detected a couple of trojans.One of the main problems is a balloon popping up in the system tray (like in XP, although I'm using 2k Pro) telling me "Your computer might be at risk. Your virus protection status is bad. Spyware Activity Detected. Click this balloon to fix this problem". I'm fairly certain this is in fact some sort of spyware itself, and not a function of windows.Anyway, after running all of those scans I'm still having problems,

I have few files on a 128 MB my Flash memory stick. It won't allow me to ad or remove files from it.It says: Drive can't be written on. Please, remove write protection.According to problem solver there is nothing wrong with the memory stick, or HUBs. Memory stick's on utility program won't allow me to format it. I have a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop and the virus protection and the firewall went down, so they have not worked for a few months and i got a bunch of viruses and spywere. (i don't know how to spell that, a little pc illiterate) but there is no hope for getting rid of it. my internet barely works so i am lucky i can ask right now. any help? i was going to do a full system restore but forgot how, i put all my important files on cds so i dont care if i loose my documents and stuff.

os keeps getting error messages such as system is unstable and it is crashing on a regular basis when he goes on the internet. he doesnt update his windows on a regular basis and he does not have very good antivirus protection, so i have unplugged his modem for the time being to stop him getting into more trouble. he has reformatted his drive twice in the last 2 weeks so i want to install avg antivirus, spywareblaster, spybot, and the latest version of ad-aware(as he only has an older version) before he plugs his modem back in, then update every thing, and run scans using the programs listed above. am i doing the right thing? and how do i go about wiping his hard drive so i can re-install his windows.

Windows XP desktop freezes when exiting programs. Also some of windows applications load very slowly. The windows search icon is displayed for 10 seconds or more while loading the control panel, search or help utilities. I am using Mcafee security suite and fixcleaner for security virus and malware protection. These programs show a clean system. Also desktop icons are blanked out for at least a minute when leaving programs. When the icons fill in the system operates fine.

I have a nightmare with my notebook which is installed with Norton Internet Security.On booting up the notebook, a triangular icon(inside with an exclamation mark or an X)appeared on the bottom right bar. The icon appeared with a message to warn me of spyware attack. On clicking the icon, it took me to IE for http://www.spylocked.com/?aff=334 or http://www.wayofprotection.com/soft/. I also found my IE is installed with a 'Security Toolbar 7.1'.
In the Control Panel, I found a program 'Internet Explorer Secure Bar' which I wanted to delete. However, once I click the 'change/move' button to delete the program, it required me to reboot before deleting but on reboot, no deletion of the program took place. I want to know how to delete the program.I also want to know how to delete the icon on the right bottom.

I just have a quick question to ask about moveing a program icon from a folder to the desktop. After I click and drag a few programs from a folder onto the background of the desktop, some programs still remain in the folder and they also are coppyed to the desktop, and some other programs are earased from the folder and are placed on the desktop. (So in other words, some of the files are "dulplicated". Some program icons still remain in the folder and on the desktop, and some are only on the desktop and not in the folder.)

I decided to try the Avira Personal Free Anti-Virus on my computer. Well, in the main inferface it only says that anti-virus is on, but i dont see anything about anti-spyware on. However on the website it says the free version gives anti-spyware so I am guessing in the program when it says Anti-Virus, it means anti-virus and anti-spyware right? On the website i saw it did say is gives both. Please help as if it has no anti-spyware, then i wont use it.

Thought I would see if someone could tell me what to look for or try on this ladies computer. She had Windows 98 on her computer. Her daughter gave her an XP disk so she put that on her computer, I guess she just put it on over the windows 98, anyway she said trhe xp worked great for she said about 90 days but now when she turns the computer on nothing comes up but the screensaver. The way I understand it is it just acts like it is starting but just show a screen saver and thats it. Can anyone tell me what I could try to help this person, my first thought was maybe she did not activate the xp but then it would not run for 90 days it would quit after 30 days. Even if that was the case shouldn't I be able to get the windows 98 back for her? would it hel;p to use a windows 98 start up disk?

I have just installed a fresh copy of XP Pro and am now attempting to install Office 2000 Midway through the installation a window entitled "windows file protection" pops up which reads: "Windows files must be installed for your installation to proceed. Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD now." The buttons available to press are retry, more information and cancel. When i insert the cd i used to install XP Pro it tells me i've inserted the wrong CD- the same message comes up when i press "retry"After clicking cancel to exit setup, i get the message entitled "installer information"- "Error 1933- The windows installer service cannot update one or more protected Windows files"
