I disabled netbios and unbinded it (windows 2000) but the DHCP service won't start now and it complains about the dependency failing to start I'd like to be able to have this setting changed from the registry so if someone can help how to disable netbios totally without any adverse effects, and to do it from a .reg file

I have lost the DHCP on this XP Home Machine.I was running wireless on this and a laptop but suddenly the wireless dropped out. I have bought a new modem-router and in trying to set it up have discovered my problem is with the MS software.Can anyone tell my how to get the DHCP software working again.. plenty of posts about losing it.

I finally figured out that it was because TCP/IP NetBios is completely disabled in the services. I'm asking myself now why is it disabled I don't remember ever disabling it and if I'm not mistaken by default it is on in a Windows installation unless you take it off in the network settings part of the install. Is there any way I can enable this service

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario s6500nx that we have put win2k and I have installed drivers that HP provided (after I had to beg and request the win2k drivers from them) I have installed them and the onboard NIC does not work, it stopped working a while back. I have disabled the onboard lan. I installed a US Robtics Model 7900 10/100 NIC and installed all the drivers. I am having a problem with the computer getting an IP address. the network is set up with a DHCP server and it works fine because I never have this problem with any other computer. View 7 Replies View RelatedThe problem is that each time I turn the pc on, if I want to access the internet, I must right click on My Computer, then Manage and then Service and Applications and then Double Click DHCP Client. It is set for Autostart but something is wrong because I have to manually start it up. I did a quick check on other items that had no status and they seem to be in this file: 'System32svchost.exe -k netscvs'. The tech guy from my ISP told me that it could be a problem with my XP disc? I can't see how. When my friend installed this hardware he also installed an extra hard drive, around 6 gig for things I might want on a backup incase something happens to my main hard drive. He formatted both hard drives and put Windows 98 on the main drive, not aware that you could do a clean install with XP.Now when my computer starts up I have to choose either Windows XP Home or Windows if I choose Windows nothing happens. Just a blinking cursor. My main concern right now is that I have to manuallly start up the DHCP Client if I want to go online.I went into the BIOS looking for answers.

I want to set up 2 users for this laptop. myself and my daughter. I have it set with myself as the admin and her as a user. I want to be able to limit the amount of damage she does to the poor thing. My main question is how to set up certain programs to work and not work for her. I have one program music match that works in admin but not on user even though it seems to say it will work for users. From what I have seen from this operating system its not real easy to set it up. I have a book from the library but its a que and not good for me. Any advise on a good book would be great. I know it would be easier to use xp or win 2000 pro but thats not nearly challenging enough for me.

You can attempt to repair this faile by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.Select 'r' at the first secreen to start repair.The only cd-rom that came with the laptop is the Toshiba Recovery and Application/ Drivers DVD.When i place this in the laptop I dont get a select 'r' option. Is this the right cd or what do i need to do to fix this?

Used their internet connection. did nothing other than use the connection for the phone go into email etc. I unplugged it on Saturday, ran ccleaner and put pc to sleep.Mom and Dad come home and PC won't work. network. I want to be able to get 2 private ip address at my home to allow a data and an ip phone connection. Would a VPN through cable modems work well for this? Or my other option is to use a wireless bridge, my home is about 1.5 miles from the office but has several trees that may block the signal.
They are both plugged into USB plugs, I have some on the back and 2 on the front of the PC. Maybe using each one in a different location? Right now I have the Canon 6000D set up and also PRIMO PDF that uses the printer to save in PDF mode (this is selected in the print options box at the time). It SEEMS like the Lexmark should just show up there, as a choice. Not having it set as "default".

View 4 Replies View RelatedOk so I have a OEM version of XP home from a old dell that is being replaced by my new build. Is it possible to use the reinstall disk to put xp on the new rig? I have heard that the OS will look for tags in the mobo bios and won't install if it can't find them.If it won't work would an upgrade version of xp work. They are cheaper but need verification that you own a copy of a MS operating system, could I use the OEM xp for verification.If none of this will work is there anyother way to get around buying a full version of xp home? I don't want to spend $200 on the OS if I can avoid it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOne of my machines (running xphome, sp2 and all updates) will not install the keyboard. This has only happened today. I have tried other ps2 keyboards with the same result. I keep getting 'code 39' error on boot up, that says it cannot install drivers for keyboard. It works okay on start up to let me in to CMOS, and I can F8 to get into safe mode. However, in safe mode keyboard still not working. I have tried uninstalling and letting windows reinstall on bootup, but just get 'code 39' again. Did a system restore which didn't work either.
