We downloaded the sp2 when it sometime last year and it came with lots of problems.I finally had to go to microsoft and get them to help me uninstall it. I have not reinstalled sp2 because I am affraid to. Have they changed it and what happens if I install it and then have to "fix" things. I am not too advanced in my computer skills and I don't think I would be able to "fix" it.
I can't run windows update, things won't install, or they won't run, update doesn't work, my windows problem cup runneth over. Here is my Hijack This! log. I will be eternally grateful if someone can help, and I don't have to wipe my HD!
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 6:12:17 AM, on 3/20/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)
I formatted the PC, reinstalled WIndows XP w/SP1. I've got Norton Personal Firewall and Norton ANtivirus installed, all up to date. I have Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware 6 installed, also all up to date. They catch nothing. Everything works peachy keen for a while, but then, I cannot open new instances of programs(such as IE or Firefox), taskmanager will not open on my screen(the the CPU meter appears in taskbar), and attempts to install programs while this is going on causes the isntall to hang, and things to get really messed. I even formatted agian, reiinstalled XP again, and it's STILL happening. I've downloaded all the security patches from Microsoft, except SP2 it hangs because of the problem stated above
I "upgraded" my old Compaq PII 300 machine to XP Home, it worked OK for awhile but now it's gotten so slow it's almost unusable, there isn't any spyware or virus on the machine so I think I want to reinstall the original 95 restore disk and then I have a 98 upgrade disk to install 98SE on it. Or another option is to use a Win 2000 Pro disk I have. What do you think is the best option? I've read you can't use F/disk on XP and if you use the XP disk to format it just reinstalls XP again.
Hi folks, I sure could use some help pretty quick. I bought an upgrade version of Xp Pro on Ebay, looked great I got the holograph disk and all, with original manual etc. Microsoft says its not a genuine copy. Now I cannot find my receipt or any info on this to follow up on. So now I need to uninstall XP Pro and re install my XP Home version.I need help how to do this so I can be legal again and get updates. I cannot afford another copy of XP Pro.
I had the program "Reallusion ItsMe" and it quit working for me, so wanted to reinstall it. However, when I used Add/Remove, it gave me the message that "error installing ikernel.exe: (0 x 10000)." I thought I would remove the non-working program manually, so I deleted all the files. I then removed the entry from the registry. I did a search for anymore files with the same name and found a few and deleted those too. Well I tried to reinstall the program again and keep getting a message that there is a previous version in my system and it can't install. Geesh, what more do I have to do? There is no previous program left as far as I know, the only one left is in the Add/Remove list.
Every time I try to open my Itunes, I receive this error "Another installation is already in progress.Complete that installation before proceeding with this install." I think there is an install or unintall on hold or something. I feel like I have exhausted all of my options.
I am having various problems with programs that won't install/uninstall, specifically uninstalling ZoneAlarm free firewall, which also happens to run its initial "Configuration Wizard/Tutorial" every time I log onto Windows from any account. When trying to uninstall, it falsely tells me I need to rerun them from an "Administrators account" I have two accounts on WinXP, both admins, and have even tried in Safe Mode 'Administrator' account and get the same error no matter what. I have scanned with RegistryMechanic(registered), Adaware Personal SE(free), Housecall (FullScan), and Norton Antivirus. No traces of virus/trojans, but BonsaiBuddy & eUniverse spyware kept coming back until I ran Adaware without System Restore on. Now there are no traces of either, but still having problems
Had problem for last week, installing and uninstalling any software.... ended up resorting to fresh win 2000 installation on fresh, newly formatted hard drive and still have same problems..I have only service pack 1 on my win 2000, and on trying to download SP4, it downloads, then stops on 'extracting files' says extraction failed, the system cannot find the file specified, and i have the same problem with any program or updates i try to download, which doesnt help me solve my problem.
Basically, i cannot install/uninstall anything, plus, i use Norton internet security, and for some reason, the liveupdate isn't working.... i get message saying failed to launch liveupdate, its not the only thing that has suddenly stopped working... Like i said, this is all a fresh installation on new hard drive, only 2 days ago, and these were same problems i had before this new installation? i cant understand how they're still there!!
That's because this problem is. I've searched all over the net and while I've found many people who've had problems with their compact wireless-g devices (turns out I got lucky with my last system), nobody's problem quite fits what is happening here.Ok, so I made the carnal error of plugging the damn thing in before I installed the software off of the CD. That's the only possible reason I can think of for why it's giving me this grief, unless it's an XP 64 issue. When I was installing the driver, the install program hanged at 30% - I left it for at least 10 minutes with no activity at all. I closed it and control-alt-delete-killed the installshield, opened up the install utility. and it said "The Driver has already been installed. If you want to replace this driver, you must uninstall the old driver." I first tried add/remove programs. It opened up, did the whole thing, gave me the satisfactory "installshield has finished uninstalling the program, yada yada...except the program never disappears from the add/remove programs list! I tried running it again...same problem. I tried running the uninstall program off of the cd...same problem. I tried deleting the entire compact wireless G folder and even hunted through the registry...nothing. I checked for system restore but it doesn't look like it's going to get me back to before I installed this thing for the first time. What do I do?
I tried to install Windows XP Home on my new hard drive. When I tried to install it, it hangs at 39 minutes and gives me the error:An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information. I kind of left it alone for a while and since then want to install Windows XP Pro. I tried to insert the Pro cd, but it wouldn't continue installation since it prepared installation from the Home cd. I've created boot disks with fdisk and format in order to just wipe the drives. However, the computer will not open the disk. I hear that it reads it but then doesn't load anything. I've used this same kind of disk for another PC and it works fine. I know the floppy drive on this pc works because when I tried to install Raid drivers previously, it read it.
Recently I cannot install or uninstall any applications and have been unable to open certain websites. Alot of people seems to be posting these logs, so heres mine. Thx in advance.
updated windows now I could no longer get online and windows stop recognizing my dvd drive. I tried restore and that fixed the internet but not the dvd drive. SO I then uninstalled sp2 but I still can't get my dvd drive to work. When I go to the control panel it tells me theres a problem with the driver but its the same driver I was using previously with no problems.
I turned on my computer today and everything's messed up. I'm running windows XP on a Sony Vaio (about 6 yrs. old). I have 2 separate CD drives, and my computer won't recognize them. Sometimes when I restarted it'd recognize one of them. When I'm in the BIOS screen it only shows 1 CD drive. I can't copy or backup files; I wanted to backup so I could revert back to factory settings. I also can't install or uninstall anything. My anti-virus program (McAfee) says it has updated, but when I run a scan it says my definitions are 5 months out of date. It suddenly takes a really long time to boot up.
I cant install or uninstall any programs, when trying to uninstall iget the box that states,'' the windows installer service could not be accessed '' an so on.im not in safe mode.also i keep getting error 1068.and error 1607 error runtime script.i need some simple fixes and ones that worked i have tried several different ones with no succcess.

I have a problem with my Installshield engine, and so I am unable to install/uninstall programs. I am running Windows XP home on a pentium IV, 2.4 GHZ with 512 ram. I think the problem started when I was installing a program called eBay Blackthorne from a download. Now, any install/uninstall is affected. The error is "Internal error # 2738".
I am having a driver problem, which i find to be very weird. I cannot install, or uninstall a driver, nor can i disable on from device manager. When i try to do any of these I get either a "run DLL as an App has enountered a problem and needs to close" or if trying to do something from device manager, I get Microsoft Management Console has enountered a problem and needs to close. In the first case I believe the file was sysag.api in the second the file causing an error is mmc.exe.
I need to uninstall my old modem before I install the software for my new modem. Problem is when I try to uninstall the old one I get an error box come up saying "cannot open bitmap". I've rebooted in safe mode and tried it but i get the same error box.
I have an Athlon XP 2400 and 80gb with 40gb hard-drive. My USB is very tempermental. Somethings work. Somethings don't. My gut re-action is that it is an external power issue as my printer was working. Strangely, my optical mouse is working fine. There is only one thing I can think of. Could it be a USB 2.0 problem as I have only 1. Please help. Where do I get drivers from? Do I even need drivers.
I went to Start/Run and all my things were gone such as regedit, msconfig etc. replaced by hundreds of past URLS I've been to. How can this be possible since I don't use Start/Run to go to websites? I can't delete them either. How do I get rid of them. Agent Ransack can't find them on my PC and my Temp and Temporary Internet folders are empty. How can I get rid of these old URLs?
I posted this in the hardware forum, but since I posted that thread other things have been happening that make me think it could be a virus. My mouse was working fine up until last night, when my computer started behaving strangely. I would move my mouse across my desk and it would work fine, before the cursor simply stopped moving. I was still moving my mouse, but the cursor wasn't moving at all. It does this in every direction, and it happens at random times. I thought it might just be a problem with the optical tracking, but something else is happening today too. Whenever the cursor stops moving the mouse sometimes jumps to another part of the screen, this also occurs randomly. Even if I'm moving the mouse right it could jump to the lower left hand corner of the screen. It also clicks itself randomly, both left and right clicks. This means it's not just a problem with the optical tracking. I'm a big FPS player, so this isn't exactly what I need, especially when my gun fires randomly and the mouse stops tracking in a firefight.
I run a windows XP home standard computer.A few days ago I started trying to tidy up my computer, cleaning the registry and getting rid of duplicate files -with software help of course-.I used Eusing Free Cleaner, and apparently while it's just fine for registry cleaning, it does a very bad job at trying to clean duplicate files, since it shredded -meaning they can't be recovered- some things that were essential to the system. What they were I don't know. But apparently the 'Stand By' function in shut down no longer works, and I can no longer adjust the monitor refresh rate, which is stuck at its lowest setting. Is there anything that can be done to try to find out what files are missing, and to download them again?
Windows XP- I get a message I have to many things in my start up menu and all can't be show. I need to take some out or choose a smaller icon. I don't know what to remove.
Running XP Home, SP2 w/1 gig. All of a sudden my machine is beginning to do strange things. First of all my second hard drive (D disappeared...it didn't show in My Computer. "Add New Hardware" didn't bring it back. Then, all of a sudden it was back. Secondly, something changed my screensaver, but I was able to restore it the usual way. I've used Registry First Aid to check on registry content, and, I've run a virus scan (NAV) and I've defragged the drive. Also, neither Counterspy nor Spybot could find anything wrong.
this was my most recent log.. and while i'm not 100% on which to delete and which to ignore, i know for sure that there's quite a few things that need to go.
also, could you please let me know which things i can put in the "ignore list".
It's a good computer, corrupted with things that it doesn't need, and I'm afraid to remove anything. Is there a program or someone who can clean things up for me and speed it back up again? I have an 80gb hard drive, 256 MB of Ram, and a great Graphics card. (NVIDIA GeForce If i'm not mistaken.), but I really need to clean this up, because before it was really fast, now on loading up, and just anything it's so slow nowadays.
Frequently on shut down I see a message that says hpqimzone.exe is not responding and I have to click on "End Now" to continue with shutown. I did some researching and found out that this process belongs to HP Photosmart Premier. This seemed confusing to me at first because the shutdown isssue occurs even when I don't run the program. After some more examinations I found out that I have two items that seem to run on startup, one is called Adobe Reader Speed Launch and the other is HP Photosmart Premier Fast Start. They are in a Startup folder - file path: C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart Menu Programs Startup. Are these critical components of startup and, if not, how do I stop them from running at startup? Would deleting the shortcuts do the trick?
