Understanding Dump File

Nov 21, 2008

I'm trying to pull some information regarding a startup stop error (blue screen). Since I haven't written down the actual stop error I was hoping that this info can be found at the dump file. The problem is that I cannot locate this file (I'm using debugging tools for windows x86 November version). It simply doesn't exists although my system is set up to create a small memory dump at the root directory. What shall I do in order to ensure that a dump file is created? Are there any other ways to pull out BSOD information without actually writing down this info myself?

Understanding Event Log File With Errors

Oct 8, 2009

I am running Win XP with SP3. My start-up is slow and I have run virus and spyware tests so decided to download Event Log Explorer to see if it would identify the problem. Have just run it for the first time and it found loads of Errors and warnings. Sadly I have no idea what they mean. They refer to programmes I have never heard of and can't find on my computer.

Understanding Slow Performance

Jul 31, 2009

Machine is having extremely slow performance (launching applications, navigating in windows explorer, etc), where is the first place you all look for the problem? Using task manager or process explorer, it shows that the CPU is about 95% idle. RAM usage is normal, with plenty available. But opening firefox might take 3 minutes. Opening a Photoshop file takes 3 minutes. All way too long. But my processor seems like it's never taxed.

If my processor isn't in use, and there is plenty of available memory, where else would you look? The computer is virus free, and hasn't had a virus issue on it. I know that this is a very general question, but where else would you all start looking? Drivers? Periferals? Does anyone have a checklist or procedure they use when looking into issues like this?

Won't Allow Me To Dump The Folder

Jan 25, 2005

I created an alternate folder for some IE favorites back when i was having trouble importing favorites into Outlook 2002. I then marked it "dump this" so i'd know to dump it when I got straightened out. Well, now I'm straigtened out, but windows xp won't allow me to dump the folder, saying it's a "windows system folder and is needed by windows to run properly. It cannot be deleted." I've tried renaming it, etc, but it didn't work.I want to chuck this darn thing- It's really not that big a deal, frankly, just a matter of XP telling me I can't do something and it's annoying and I don't want XP to think it can get away with bossing me around.

Conflict With New Hardware - Memory Dump

Apr 16, 2006

So I've done some research on the Memory Management BSOD error. It say that it's probably some sort of conflict with a new peice of Hardware...the only thing is I haven't installed any new hardware. I think that it is a problem with a program I installed called Intellisynch that I got from Yahoo so I could synch my Yahoo address book with my Outlook Express Address Book. Now whenever I I start Outlook Express, I get the BSOD, I've uninstalled Intellisynch but I'm still getting the BSOD's when I start Outlook Express. Here's the BSOD info and the info from "Hijack this" that I ran:

Crash Dump / Frequently Running Into BSOD

Sep 7, 2008

I have found that i am frequently running into BSOD.I have been trying to use windb to determine the cause of the problems and while i'm pretty sure there is a driver somewhere that is at fault i have no idea how to determine which one. In the last month and a bit i have updated every driver i could think of, but the BSOD keep occuring.i have run memtest 86 for 24hrs without any problem being detected, but i've heard that some problems can be missed so i havent ruled out a faulty memory stick.I have attached a copy of the crash dumps generated by the BSOD and i am wondering if it was possible for someone to have a look and see if there is anything obvious that may be causing the problem. there are 41 mini dumps ranging from september last year until 8.30 pm tonight.

HELP! Memory Dump! BSOD! Rebooting ALL The Time!

Dec 2, 2008

My Compaq (XP HOME edition SP2) laptop is suddenly going through this whole physical memory dump complete thing. I turned it off just like normal this afternoon. Then tonight when I turned it on, it got to my desktop, seemed normal for less than 1 min, then went to the blue screen that includes the following technical Information:
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x85EE90BD, 0xECF62B4C, 0x00000000)
Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical Memory dump complete
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.
Then it would reboot, do the same thing, over and over again.

So I googled on my husband's computer and learned about the minidump folder thing. Then I went and started my computer in safe mode and found the folder, but I couldn't read the minidump files. So I googled some more and learned about downloading the debugging tools which I did (on my hubby's computer). I transferred the debugging file to my safe mode computer tried to install and it wouldn't let me. SO silly me, I copied the dump files onto my hubby's computer, hoping to read them there. Then I realized that the debugging tools need more than just the dump file to actually read it, and it would require image path, symbols stuff. Well, now I am totally lost. What do I do?

At first, my hubby thought it was probably because he plugged in the webcam thing before my laptop finished starting...some post did say it would cause the BSOD problem, well, we unplugged our webcam and it still wouldn't work.
I read this link http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...debugging.html but couldn't really follow... The following link suggested a similar video cam plug issue but I am not good enough to follow what he did to fix...
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/...se-a-stop.aspx

I am now totally stuck!!!! Please help me! What do I do now?

Physical Dump Due To Hardware - Won't Start In Safe Mode

May 9, 2007

all of a sudden..it begins a "physical dump". The first time it did it. It said it was due to hardware. I went through my hardware list and it all appeared to be fine. Suddenly...it did it again. This time the message was just a bunch of numbers (I didn't write them down. but I'm sure it will happen again and I'll get it.) Long story short. I went to several friends and everything they tell me to do seems to be making things worse.

My computer won't start in safe mode, or normal mode..right now it will only start when I choose "The last configuration that worked". Even then...my computer will work fine for a week and then BOOM. acts strange for several days..off and on. I have no idea what's wrong with it. I've run so many programs that I don't know what I've tried and what I haven't.
