Settings That Windows Always Appear In The Border Of Monitor
Jul 1, 2005
I've got my taskbar on top of my screen. Works nice, controls all on top decreases mouse moves. But one thing is frustrating. Some applications always have their title bar under (behind) the taskbar. Therefore I have to resize and move the window to have them with the title bar just below the taskbar. Is it possible to make programs/OS remember the window locations so it will be under the taskbar when I startup the program after I shutted it down?Or is there a setting to make windows always appear in the are between he borders of the monitor and below the taskbar
I just moved in to college and set up my computer, but due to limited space didn't bring my second monitor. Now my aim, and ventrilo windows are still on the other monitor but no way to get them to the current monitor for use.
Is there a way to adjust the brightness of my monitor other than using the Menu/Controls that are on the monitor (using a SyncMaster 172n). I calibrate my monitor using Pantone Huey, having set the brightness / contrast both to zero, but it is still too bright. I went through the Control Panel > Display settings but didn't see anything. Maybe it's hidden somewhere?
I've been having trouble with my screensaver I've been to properties on my desktop and changed my turn off moniter settings to never. But it is turning off after about 3 minutes is there anything else I can do to fix this annoying problem.
I recently changed my power settings so my monitor would go off after 1 minute while running some scans. Now when I try to change that setting to always on or any other setting, my monitor keeps going black after 1 minute of not being used. Any ideas as to how I can change this?
I went to play a game and then when i got in it was all red (not totally just a tint of red was over my screen) so i ctrl + alt + deled out and now its stuck like this......i donno how to get it back to normal
Screen Definition Problem with Toshiba Satellite 4600 Laptop. I am wondering if someone can give me advice regarding my toshiba satellite 4600 laptop. I am running XP service pack 2 and the machine is around 6 years old, has a 733mhz celeron processor, 256mb ram and 30gig HD.
The problem is that it doesn't seem to want to change screen definition (which is necessary for a lot of games). In the display properties settings there is choice of either 800x600 or 1024x768, however it defaults to 1024x768, and if you change it to 800x600 all that happens is that the desktop gets smaller within the monitor's screen leaving a black border around the unused part of the screen (it's like when you resize a photo, the photo gets smaller) - the icons stay tiny, so really it's still 1024x768 but just a smaller version............
I cannot figure this out. I turn on my computer, everything loads and runs like normal. The windows bar thing runs (im running SP2) and then when the actual GUI is about to come up the monitor turns off. The monitor says to check my connections... been there done that. Ive tried 3 different monitors and all do the same thing. The computer isn't going to sleep either because it wont wake up no matter what. Its got to be a program or virus something because i can start in safe mode. Ive run nortons to no avail, and with the latest update.
I start computer and during windows xp logo booting screens the monitor will go blank (orange light by monitor power button) and keyboards lights will turn off numlock caps and scroll lock will not turn them back on and the little light on my wireless usb mouse reciever goes out. however the pc front lights disc tray and network lights remain on and fan is still going. but sometimes i do manage to get passed the startup (10% of the time) and into windows for about 10-30 minutes before the same blank screen freeze up happens. i know its not totally a videocard monitor issue because not just the monitor goes blank everything stops responding......
I'm having two problems with my computer. I'm getting the windows installer screen always coming up at startup and staying on the monitor until I press cntl + alt + delete and then i'm getting that window in the background or bottom of the screen toolbar.
Okay, I bought a new mobo and set up a clone pc. ASrock combo mobo (the one with socket 754 and 939). I have everything set up right, POST confirms. Everything is good, POST works fine. I've got a formatted hard drive, no OS on it. I'm trying to install Windows to that OS, but it will not install. It goes to a blank screen after detecting my hardware settings. Wasn't sure if this topic should have gone in OS or hardware, so i put it here. I've tried 2 windows CDs and a Linux DVD on 2 different disc drives, and still nothing works past the "setup is detecting your hardware settings" screen. I have no idea what to do.
When Windows adds a new monitor using the standard driver, can it detect the aspect ratio? When I hooked up mine, all the resolution choice were for 4:3 monitors. There were no widescreen options. It should choose the monitor's native resolution on its own if the monitor is an LCD.
HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.
I have a old Dell computer which I brought a 24" Dell HD monitor. I upgraded it with a new graphics card which has both VGA and HD capability hook-ups. Now we have a new tower to go with exisiting 24" monitor. My problem is I can not get a old standard VGA monitor to work with the old system listed above. When I plug in the the VGA monitor plug in the VGA outlet in the old computer I get no signal to the monitor. What do I need to do with drivers or other wise to get the old computer back to being able to be used with the old VGA monitor?
my darn gateway monitor screen is too wide. How do i reduce it to the regular size? I pressed Ctrl and held down on the scroll lock and nothing happens. i tried to reset it with the monitor button but nothing happens.i can not view the right side graphic on my monitor
I replace my old LCD monitors (Dell 1905s) with new acer P223w's. I have a dual monitor display.I power off both monitors with one switch that cuts off the power. When I do this however, Windows makes the sound like a device has been disconnected and it messes up my monitor settings. This is very annoying and it didn't happen with my other monitors nor does it happen on my other Windows XP system with different monitors. It's like Windows is trying to be "smart" by thinking the monitor is gone. I do not want Windows to care if the monitor is powered off.
I wonder if it is possible to switch off the computer's monitor manually. System Control / Energy provides the possibility to define how long the computer must idle to disable the monitor. I want to do that "by hand". Is that possible?
I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly
When I started up it says Win.ini corrupt. Then it starts up as a new user losing track of Favorites and Start Menu and Desktop Icons, Display and Folder attributes. Under Documents and Settings it has added Dave.U5R2D5 in addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried switching the 2 Filenames to get back to what it used to be but gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.Is there some way to use the old Dave file?
I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.
Files and settings wizard does not replace files and settings after re installation. of XP. After several tries I got a copy of FASTconv, a command line program, to extract the files. It has been a long time since I used a command line and the command is complex. I have set the command follows........ fastconv /V /S:source store /D:destination store /T:temp store /I left out the /I switch so all files in the Dir source store would be extracted. Same thing happens when I put in /I switch.I named the Dir. source store, destination store and temp store. When I run it I get instructions on usage and a command prompt What am I missing?
I've got an HP notebook with Windows XP. I just went out and bought an s-video cable so I can use my TV as a second desktop, but I can't get the damn thing to work and now I want to kill. Here's what's happening: when I go into display properties and screw around with the 1 and 2 monitors and try to "extend my windows desktop", my monitor turns off for a second and the TV blinks like it wants to work, but then the monitor turns back on and the TV just stays blak. Same thing happens when I do the FN+F5 thing.
If I was to purchase a new PC, could I attach it to a old windows 98 monitor i have. If so is there some PC's that would work better then others and about how much could it cost?
I have a Gateway computer that’s about 4 years old running Windows 98. It includes a Gateway VGA monitor (model EV700). I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows using their resource CD’s. Everything is fine now except the monitor will only display the lowest resolution settings. I have tried to change the resolution through the display icon in control panel, but it will not allow me to increase the resolution. I have even gone to the Gateway web site and download the latest driver for this monitor, but still have the same results.
As a result, the monitor will no longer display graphics of any kind while on the internet or while working with photo imaging software.
I cant get a monitor to install on pc winxp it said vga not compatible i dont have disc know that xp has this driver but i read that i have to trick it into using it this i got from internet dont understand it it is a tft monitor proview i have been to the sight but cant find which driver it is!
My computer is having some trouble. When I try to boot it up I get nothing from the monitor(LCD). This happened a while back and all I did was took the power cord to the monitor out, and plugged it back in. It worked like that for 2 months or so. Today he calls me and he is having the same problem. So again I unplugged the cord and replugged it back in. I got signal but it immediately went blank again. It will only work for 1 second. What could be causing this do you think? I hooked up two other monitors to his computer also. One of them (older one not sure if it works 100%, wouldn't see why not) would BOOT up fine, then once you got to login it would go black, and do exactly what the LCD did. I could unplug it plug it back in for some video. Then I brought over my monitor. It works 100% and I didn't get any video at all with it. I tried other power cords/outlets etc. What do you guys think it could be?
I have an older IBM 10in screen thinkpad running Win2000. Turned it on for the first time in a while the other day and the windows sign on screen is off the right and it is like I am on dual monitor. Can slide pointer to right and get to one side with startup menu then slide pointer back to left for icons. When put a screen saver on in tile mode, it duplicates it side by side but you have to scroll left to see both. Have gone into display and tried to change things but nothing works. When I go to settings, it shows only one monitor but says display [Multiple monitors} on silicon Motion LynxEM+.
