When I try to select multiple files to move, delete, copy etc. I use the keyboard Ctrl key to accomplish this. Unfortunately half the time or more this also results in a copy of the files being made. I believe the keyboard trick for copying multiple files should be Ctrl + C. Anybody know how to use the Ctrl key to select only without any copy being made.

But after all the files are selected I want to del them or copy them or whatever... so I right click my mouse to get to the 'right click menu' but at this point there is a LONG pause. This program is a single sign on solution to allow our users to sign onto all of their programs without having to remember their passwords.Since this program was rolled out, I am getting reports of random computers at random times not being able to use the CTRL+ALT+DEL function.I doubt this is a hardware problem since it is happening to random computers at random times. I honestly don't believe that this is a security problem either since it works most of the time.

Here's my computer specs:Just recently I'd been gone to work and my girlfriend was at home on the computer.She usually goes on myspace, xanga, facebook a lot and generally doesn't stray far from those activities. I got home and she pointed out the computer was acting weird. When I hit ctrl+alt+del, the screen just gets a light blue sheen over it until I click and then it's gone with no sign of the task manager. Also in firefox I cannot use the ctrl keys. The left ctrl key when pressed immediately makes the font size in the window larger and larger and after 2 or 3 presses opens a new tab in firefox. The right ctrl key yesterday was opening a new tab going to gmail and today is doing a variety of things including going back a page and copying text to pages. I can't use any ctrl key combinations in any software without it doing something strange. In Azureus it opens a file's statistics.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUpon start-up, and after selecting a user..usually Christine, my wife [there are 4 users set-up] at the desktop screen I immediately get a pop-up error box that reads WUAUCLT.exe encountered an error and needs to close. It also goes on to read...if you want to send this message to Microsoft click this and then, of course, there is the Don't Send option as well. I usually click the don't send option....10 seconds later the box pops back up...I went to Task Mgr a few times and saw it [wuauclt.exe] running in Processes and was able to stop it from running. However, it is not always in Task Mgr to stop!

I ticked safemode under boot.ini in msconfig and my computer restarted, but only got as far as the Windows XP loadup page before rebooting itself. I have tried 'last known good configuration' etc, but to no avail... the computer simpl will not get past this point. I decided to reinstall (repair) Windows XP, but unfortunately, I cannot do this because it reaches a screen where it says setup cannot complete under safe mode. I can't turn this safemode off though, because I can't get the computer on to reaccess boot.ini.

It says to click START and then FOLDER OPTIONS, then on the FILE TYPES tab, click DRIVE and click EDIT.You can do everything except the last click. View 4 Replies View RelatedOn my desktop I had partitioned the main Hard Disk into 2 and had XP Pro on one half and Windows 7 on the other.When I used to boot up the PC the windows boot menu came up asking if I wanted to boot to XP or 7.Soon afetr this XP started crashing a lot. So I decided to scrap 7 and I've re-partitioned the Hard Disk into one big lump with only XP remaining.The partition that had 7 on it no longer exists.Why does my PC still start with the windows boot menu when I start it up?It still asks me if I want to boot to windows 7 or an earlier version of windows?Is there a way of stopping this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a PC that had numerous defunct users, some from old defunct workgroups. I thought I'd consolidate. I moved a bunch of files and folders to a current users folder and deleted the defunct files and folders. I did this in Explore, loged in as Administrator, because these defunct users were from a previous defunct workgroups and did not show up in User Accounts/ControlPanel. As administrator I can read and wrtie to these files, but the user can't. I have marked these folders as shared and given permission to do everything to them, but the user that need them still can't write to them. As Administrator, I have assigned him to the powerUsers Group in the Users account/ControlPanel.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had this weird problem that seems random (i know computers arent really random but I cant figure out the cause). I have Win7 and WinXp in a dual boot working fine then after like a week of everything being fine my XP will not boot. I get to the Boot Manager and select XP and the screen just goes black and the system reboots back to the Boot Manager. I am having trouble finding the exact problem because I dont know win booting very well. I am assuming the MBR is fine because it gets to the Boot Manager fine. So I figure it is something with the WinXP partition. Win7 boots perfect. I have tried resetting up the boot with Easy BCD 2.0 beta (way better than 1.x) with no success.
This is not the first time this has happened, I end up having to either install XP fresh or do a repair install. I made a Acronis True Image backup and when everything was working then restored it with no success. I am getting really sick of this happening though because this is like the 6th time this has happened. The XP install is only used to game so it is bare minimum programs. I would appreciate any help in finding the route of the problem so that I can fix it instead of reinstalling the OS.
I have a weird problem that has never happened to me before. I can not get anything to pop up when I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to look at my running process.
