I have just started using XP pro. On previous Windows machines I have selected the color scheme of Rainy Day. I can not find this with XP. Can someone tell me where to find this as a download?
View 4 RepliesSome unknown application is running which causes the Taskbar and window buttons to appear with a mottled green and gray pattern. Changing Windows desktop themes and colors can reset the colors, but then when I start a new application, the screen goes black (indicating the display settings are changing), then comes back with the mottled pattern. I have used various tools to try diagnose what the culprit application
is to no avail. I'm sure its some dumb thing my daughter downloaded knowingly or knowingly. I've used msconfig to stop some programs from loading that I thought would be the cause, but that didn't work.
I run windows xp and use the silver color scheme instead of the default (blue) color scheme. i started up my pc and windows had returned to the default color scheme so i restarted my pc and it was back to the silver scheme.All was well for a few weeks when it did the same thing agin.After restarting this time and i was back to the silver color scheme,all was well until this morning when i started my pc and it was back to the default blue so i restarted and it was still at the default blue.
I went to my display properties and manually set it back to the silver scheme,clicked on apply then ok and restarted my pc.Now it was back to the silver scheme.What could be the reason for this.I run spybot,ad-aware,spyblaster and microsoft anti-spyware and i also run ez-armor antivirus.I scan my pc everyday for spyware before i shutdown and i do regular virus scans and nothing is very often found as far as spyware except a tracking cookie once in awhile and never any viruses
I have a Windows XP and when I turned on my computer this morning, my taskbar and start menu weren't the standard blue color, but grey, like an older version. I've tried fixing this in my control panel, but it just says I'm already using a blue taskbar & start menu. I really like the modern look of the blue taskbar.

Every time I put a picture as my wallpaper the color around the words under my icons doesn't blend in with the picture but stays a solid color, so there's like little boxes of blue of white. View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to set the sound scheme to 'no sounds'. I go to 'sounds and audio device properties' and the sounds tab and select no sounds, apply, ok. However, the sounds continue. When i go back to the properties box it is still on 'no sounds' setting, but when i scroll down the list of events, there is the speaker symbol by every event below netmeeting. I have tried to change these each to no sound, but they reset. I am running XPSP3. I just reinstalled XP and there are these problems. What's going on? Seeing as I don't want sounds at all, would deleting the sound files from the system be a solution? (Where are they located?)

I want to know how to move the sound schemes from one computer to another.... I've spent a lot of time on finding free sounds on the internet and customizing them to make sound schemes. I know where the sound files are but I just don't know where the system saves those sound scheme extentions or whatever they are.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAt startup 2 days ago my desktop colour scheme was reset to classic with grey taskbar etc. When I tried to change it back to silver I found that the windows xp style in display properties appearance windows and buttons, was gone and only windows classic style was present. Confused I though maybe I needed to do a windows update. I proceeded to do so and while I was at it updated to SP3. After doing this I could successfully change my colour scheme back to silver and change the size of my active title bar and menu font etc back to the way they were. But now whenever I restart my PC the colour scheme has reverted back to the default blue xp theme and the size changes back to default as well.I'm at a aloss because I have windows auto updates turned off and had installed no new software the night before this happened.I should also add that I have already done a virus scan, Malwarebytes Anti-malware scan and a Spybot search and destroy scan but found nothing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe welcome screen refuses to show, even though i've selected "use the welcome screen" under user accounts. Instead I get the classic logon screen. Interesting to note, is that when "use the welcome screen" is selected, there is a black background to the logon, but when it's not selected (when classic mode is actually supposed to show), I get the logon with the default blue background. I've tried going into regedit and activated it manually, (used a 1 value), but I still get the classic logon screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently in an architectural design class and it's getting to the time where my teacher likes to get a clean start on the next year computer-wise. Now he always just uninstalls select things and then reinstalls the better versions the next year. Now I was thinking, since these computers are a few years old, he should just format them entirely, speeding them up greatly and clearing out any old problems. And this is where the problem comes in, he wants to save past student's files and I can't think of a way to do this after doing a wipe leaving out the option of backing them up on a seperate drive.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn folder options - view- advanced settings- hidden files and folders, both radio buttons are selected, for about a month now. Normally "do not show hidden files"is only selected. When I clicked on " show hidden files it would work and show the hidden files, until a couple days ago. Now both buttons are still selected but I can not get it to show the hidden files. When I click a button that button will be the only one selected the other one goes out. Then I click apply and ok then open view back up both buttons are still both selected.

accounts, the security/safety settings work fine in the "bundled/branded browser" but can be subverted if IE itself is accessed.
Upon returning home from work today, I noticed all the lights were out on my cable modem. I moved my mouse and the monitor stayed black. I then looked down at the CPU and both the green power light and the yellowish reset light were on. I don't know if power cut off during the day or not because my monitor light was flashing and my router lights were on. I plugged in my modem into a different outlet and it came on. I pushed the power button to power down the unit. After waiting about 30 seconds, I powered the unit back up. Things were going good, then I came up the screen that said Windows experienced a problem starting which could be caused by a new configuration... and if the power had gone out of if you didn't know what happened to choose Starts Windows Normally. I selected Safe Mode first, it went through and came directly back to this screen.

my primary printer is a Brother MFC-8670DN wired to ethernet.Operating system is XP home SP3.
Desktop ICONS always disappear when first user is selected, Computer motherboard is ASUS M3A78PRO/w AMD Phenon Quad Core 9500 CPU with 4GB Memory. OS is XP Pro. I am utilizing the on-board graphics card only. When I initially built and installed the XP-Pro Operating System, the system installed and worked perfect. After approximately six (6) months of use, and while attempting to utilize IE 8, the pop-up screens would only display in white, without any information. After working on the IE 8 problem for a week, I finally decided to scrubbed the hard drive with zeros an accomplished a clean install. Same problem appeared again. I accomplished a Mem-Test on the memory without any problems.

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust got a new computer with Gigabyte GA-K8SNC-939 Motherboard. The problem is that on each boot , and shutdown, the floppy drive is accessed (i.e. motor runs ).The floppy drive is NOT selected as a boot option in the bios and the access on boot comes just after the 'Loading Personal Settings" screen. On shutdown it is just before the end , not immediately on shutdown.I seem to remember there was a Floppy Seek setting somewhere in Windows at one time, but I can't seem to find it in XP SP 2. As it happens well into the boot cycle, I don't think it's related to the motherboard.

I downloaded a fanfare i wanted to use and changed it to a WAV file, but when Windows starts, i only get the first note, about half a second. When I click on the sound in the change sounds in sounds and audio device properties, it plays fine.

4-bit Color won't go to 32-bit ?
My Windows instalation of 2000 has somehow gotten rid of my avail to use 16 and 32 bit color settings. I can not bring it back. 98 had it and now my view of some internet pages is horrible.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 4 year old niece was using my parents Dell PC Desktop. Its a pretty new computer. She must have pressed something because now the color is all screwed up. It has a red hue to it and the blues are too bright and the start button isnt green, its black. The resolution only goes to 32-bit. There are no other options.
