We don't have the original discs that came with computer -- we didn't know that we should have paid Best Buy extra to get them. I can't seem to find anything on the Microsoft site to help. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have three problems which I think may be related and need help. Issues began with IE - some pages time out and won't open at all, others open very slowly. Checked my settings, etc. I uninstalled a recently installed program, AND then, planned to restore my computer to an earlier date using System Restore. Turns out I was unable to complete a Sys Restore to ANY previous checkpoints, after multiple attempts. So I decided to boot up in Safe Mode to check it out - and found out I couldn't open Safe Mode either

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a folder containing pdf's, word and excel documents and mp3s (about 13 GB in size ). When I opened my mother's laptop, I discovered that someone accidentally dragged my folder to another folder next to it (my whole famiy uses that laptop) I opened it and all of my files were deleted! So, I searched for ways to recover deleted files and installed a software to recover it on drive C: (my folder is in drive D: ) . The program was able to locate my files but I cannot recover it because the program is not free so I downloaded other free programs. The other drive's space is not enough to accommodate the deleted files so ( not knowing the consequences of my actions ) I transferred some files of C: to D: (about 1.5 GB ). However, the free program was not able to find my files so I searched again. I tried System Restore and I was able to recover it. But when I tried opening the files, it says that "There was an error opening this document. Access is denied" for pdf,s, "Windows Media Player cannot access the file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did a systeme restore, after it finished and restarted it came back to my explorer (desktop) and nothing loaded. I ctrl+alt+deleted and some things where running in the background.I "hard" restarted my computer and it still took me back to the blank explorer (desktop).I ran a new task and opened up firefox, when it poped up my desktop poped up and everthing in the task manager loaded but was very slow and nothing worked and it just froze. I then tried a different restore point and the same problem countinued.I then put in the windows repair disk and tried to fix the boot and still nothing. If I turn on the computer and put it into safe mode the desk top will load. But in normal mode it wont for a very long time and when it does it doesnt work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt did not come with Windows installed, but came with the Windows SP1 disc and drivers and such. I installed all those, and was off to a great start. But a few hours later, I discovered I couldn't open System Restore, System Information, or Windows Media Player. Since these are all applications that come with Windows, I figured I must have messed up the installation. Being on moderately knowledgeable about computers, many times, my solution is to simply reinstall a program. So, I figured, I have this installation disc still sitting here from just a few hours ago, why not just give it another go?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded some drivers as I was trying to install a new printer who's software would'nt load. This did'nt solve the problem. I decided to get a printer that I had had before, Brother DCP-110C as I knew this had worked well. I then thought I would use System restore to go back to a happier time when I had the first Brother printer. previous saved point wont let me to restore
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was messing around with CCleaner and deleted something to do with an old version of McAfee (which isn't even on my computer anymore) from the registry. Yes, it was stupid to mess with the registry I guess because I failed to make the backup and now my computer won't boot. I get the blue screen that says there was an error 0x0000008e, or something like that.
I have tried using F8 and choosing the last known good configuration but it doesn't work. Also, I can boot into safe mode and I tried running a system restore but after it finished and I rebooted, it said that I couldn't restore from that point.I haven't really tried another restore because I am a little afraid to do anything. I don't want to risk losing access in safe mode because I need to be able to back up some of my files if in case I have to do a reformat.
My computer had a turn yesterday and kept giving me the blue screen error on start-up, so using my windows disk I managed to run chkdsk. So I can get on now, but certain things won't run, like Media Centre, Firefox has forgotten my settings and also my iriver doesn't get acknowledged when I plug it into a USB port.So I am trying to run System restore to go back a couple of days.I can get into restore, and go through everything up to the point where you click 'next' in order to restore it.I click on next but nothing happens, it just stays there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am unable to acess any of my or XP's restore points. When I went to restore to an earlier date. All appeared to be going as it should. However, when I got to my profile a message window came up that said unable to restore to (chosen date/time) etc. I chose 3 other restore points over the last month, thinking it might be some recent problem, still a no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated? Is there a utility to use to check and see if there is something corrupted?

View 1 Replies View RelatedRestore Incomplete is the message regardless of what date is entered. I have 8.5 gig disk space and turning off RESTORE , rebooting and creating a new restore point did not solve the problem--the message remained the same. Other than reinstalling XP I am at a loss as to what to do. I do not have a need to restore at the moment but I may need to in the future.

I bought an external HD, completely backed up everything important and was about to run a system restore as I had created a manual restore point following the resolution of previous problems. The link to the thread is found below. However, when I use the system restore wizard, I can only select November 8th, 9th, and 10th and today is the 10th. I created the manual restore point back in March 2006. I cannot change the month and I have no idea where to find manual points.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's clear that System Restore does not simply put down a given Registry of a Restore Point instead of one in existence. Before this System Restore examines for compatibility the coming Registry and established programmed. Sometimes System Restore adjusts them, makes some corrections and informs user about this. But in a complicate situation System Restore cannot make corrections and refuses to put Restore Point down.Where can I read about:
1) What does System Restore control specifically?
2) In which situation specifically does System Restore refuse to put Restore Point down?
3) Is it possible to exclude these testings from System Restore?
Whenever i try doing system restore it fails to restore I even tried different restore points still no go! Why so ,any idea why this is happening?
