Open System Restore - Blank Window
Oct 2, 2007When I open System Restore all I get is a blank window. Nothing. Just white. How can I get my system to restore System Restore without completely re-installing Windows XP?

Can't Get To The System Restore Window
Jul 24, 2005ever since i uninstalled norton and kaspersky[which hasnt uninstalled properly yet] i have had alot of problems...1st of all i cannot get to "windowsupdate.com" and i cant go to the "system restore" page in control panel..i have to click it 5 times to open up the page and when it finally opens it doesnt load...so i cant restore my computer...other problems are that i cant see yahoo instant messages any more..the Instant message box pops up and its blank..and when i type a message to someone and i send it,its blank. i had a worm..and i removed it with avast[an anti virus program] and the problems are still here. also im having multiple internet explorer problems...and i cant search my computer for files either. i also cant play movies or music on windows media player. i also ended "explorer.exe "when it was running couple days ago,thru task manager

Jul 20, 2005I have recently removed a piece of adware from my pc, only thing is i cant install any programs as nothing happens as you click on the installer icons, so i tryed to restore the system to an earlier time to see if this would work, but system restore won't work the window opens for it but its blank, what is wrong? also when i yahoo account internet explorer will only let me select a few of the buttons not all though, are these problems related? what can i do?

Feb 14, 2008It did not come with Windows installed, but came with the Windows SP1 disc and drivers and such. I installed all those, and was off to a great start. But a few hours later, I discovered I couldn't open System Restore, System Information, or Windows Media Player. Since these are all applications that come with Windows, I figured I must have messed up the installation. Being on moderately knowledgeable about computers, many times, my solution is to simply reinstall a program. So, I figured, I have this installation disc still sitting here from just a few hours ago, why not just give it another go?

Oct 11, 2010I have a folder containing pdf's, word and excel documents and mp3�s (about 13 GB in size ). When I opened my mother's laptop, I discovered that someone accidentally dragged my folder to another folder next to it (my whole famiy uses that laptop) I opened it and all of my files were deleted! So, I searched for ways to recover deleted files and installed a software to recover it on drive C: (my folder is in drive D: ) . The program was able to locate my files but I cannot recover it because the program is not free so I downloaded other free programs. The other drive's space is not enough to accommodate the deleted files so ( not knowing the consequences of my actions ) I transferred some files of C: to D: (about 1.5 GB ). However, the free program was not able to find my files so I searched again. I tried System Restore and I was able to recover it. But when I tried opening the files, it says that "There was an error opening this document. Access is denied" for pdf,s, "Windows Media Player cannot access the file.

Mar 2, 2009I did a systeme restore, after it finished and restarted it came back to my explorer (desktop) and nothing loaded. I ctrl+alt+deleted and some things where running in the background.I "hard" restarted my computer and it still took me back to the blank explorer (desktop).I ran a new task and opened up firefox, when it poped up my desktop poped up and everthing in the task manager loaded but was very slow and nothing worked and it just froze. I then tried a different restore point and the same problem countinued.I then put in the windows repair disk and tried to fix the boot and still nothing. If I turn on the computer and put it into safe mode the desk top will load. But in normal mode it wont for a very long time and when it does it doesnt work.

May 5, 2005I've been having this issue where while I'm surfing the internet using Firefox, a blank window pops up and then disappears in the taskbar on the bottom. It's too quick to grab and find. I checked my running processes, nothing out of the ordinary. I ran a full blown virus scan with Norton AV Corporate, with all updates. I have ran Adware. with newest updates smart and full scan, PestPatrol (with newest updates), Aluria. And none of these has found anything. I even went into IE and Firefox and double-checked my plugins to make sure there are no strange plug ins which may have been spawning a process, and there is nothing out of the ordinary.

On my desktop, all programs function fine. On the other desktop for the other user, when a program is launched, it opens up as a blank program window. IE opens fine, but other programs such as McAfee and other certain Microsoft Office programs will open but not fully execute.

For example I often use four notepad instances which are grouped in the taskbar. I have to bring them to front and focus by clicking each instance individually. I was hoping there was a "restore" option when I right click on the group in the taskbar but there isnt one. Is there a way to bring them all to the front without cascading or tiling? Jul 16, 2010I use a program called Visagesoft expert PDF to create multi page PDF. I booted up my computer the other morning and printed to the program but now instead of the dialog box i visagesoft usually display it only shows as a minimised window in the tasbar. I am unable to click on it to restore the dialog box.
I have tried uninstalling the program checking no stray registry entries remain and reinstalling the progam but still have the same issue. This seems to be the only program thats effected. No system changes / upgrades have been made on this system. I have a number of similar builds all running the same software and none of these have had anyproblems

May 22, 2008My computer keeps freezing for no reason at all. It starts up normally, and everything loads just fine. I go to open MSN for example, it opens, but I try to do anything inside of that program like open up a new window and it freezes. I press end now and it doesn't close no matter what, even after hours. I minimize it, go to desktop, try to open a folder and explorer freezes. At this point nothing opens up nothing works and I restart.
I have restarted plenty and its the same story every time. I hadn't done anything different than I usually do with my computer. Just one morning I go to my computer and its been doing this non-stop ever since.When I start the computer in safe mode, this problem doesn't occur so its obviously software, but what could be causing this?

Sep 14, 2007I'm working on recovering a machine from a month-long period of time during which it was completely overrun with spyware and virues. Currently, I have the following issues to contend with: System Restore can only be activated or deactivated via direct registry edit. When you try from the System Properties window, it simply tells you that an error occurred and to try a restart. The advanced start menu options are blank. There are no options to turn off or on things like "Show Network Connections." The options can be turned on in the registry, but the options are missing altogether from the 'rt-click-on-the-start-button' process. Any instance of IE that is open shows in the taskbar as "Windows Explorer," rather than Internet Explorer.
