Restore Lost Administrator Status?

Mar 17, 2009

When me and my wife moved in with her parents to help take care of her father. When he passed I was givin his computer wich was left on and password protected. What I did was create another user account as an administrater and demoted him to just a user figuring that would allow me to remove his password.I forgot to bump him back up to administrator before I deleted the other user and now I am stuck with only 1 account and it has no administrator rights.I do not have the windows XP disk either =/ I would like to change the account back to administrator and retain the files as well.

HDD Not According To System Restore Status - Files Not Accessible

Oct 13, 2006

It seems my HDD doesn't seem to be on according to System Restore under status. Device Manager also comes up with nothing, however my GFX card seems to be working even though it is not being detected. I can access all the files in my HDD too. I have no other HDD plugged in or CD Drives in (the CD drive worked when it was in). Also, the bars and such seem to be in the Windows 98 style not XP, as if it was in safe mode. I have looked at the msconfig and it is on normal start up however it is not working. I also cannot change the computers name, etc.I have tried to reinstall Windows but it comes up "0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000". I have googled this and things have come up but they do not suite my situation as I only have 1 HDD (And yes it is plugged in properly as well as the CD drive).I would also like to ask if a HDD should be the Master IDE or whether the CD drive should be.

In win XPPro environment I have lost admin right to all accounts. While installing a sfotware I get this message:"You currently do not have access to the Windows registry. Please see system admin to install realplayer." I tried checking the install and uninstall file to make sure the read is unchecked, I looked for previous versions of software to remove and In safe mode as Administrator and also created a new administrator and still cannot download software due to same issue. I rebooted and restarted the computer several times.

Lost Administrator Password

Aug 13, 2005

I have just gotten my friends laptop to fix up. It's a pretty big mess. The thing is, he got it from this old school, and he needs administrative control as right now, he can do almost nothing. He cant contact the school, and I tried looking for some password resetting or something but nothing.I just searched through almost all 50 topics of the "I lost my administrative password" topics, hoping to find an answer, and I did, but now I need help with that. I downloaded the CD version from my computer, extracted it, and burned the .iso file onto the cd. I put in the cd in the laptop, and nothing happened. So I rebooted, and nothing happened. I tried to open it, but it doesnt work with anything, so now it opens with Notepad, which doesn't do anything.

Lost Administrator Rights Changes In Ms Config

Sep 20, 2007

I can not make any changes in msconfig, nor can I change any program startup options in services.msc...If i try to uninstall a program I get a dialog box that states windows installer can't be located, I've tried to dl and install it but, you guessed it, no installer to install it with. There are three people using these machines, myself, my wife Kim and our 16 year old boy.Having done a little research I've read that I shouldn't go online in an administrator account due to vulnerability issues while in an admin.

Lost Administrator Rights / Installation Wasn't Completed

My OS is XP Pro. For quite a while now, whenever my system tries to install the latest version of Win Media Player, most of the installation happens and then I get an error message saying the installation wasn't completed and that I must log on as administrator. Since I am the adminstrator, I guess I've somewhere along the line lost my administrator rights.

System Restore - Administrator Password Doesn't Work

Feb 5, 2006

I had probs, so I did a system restore. When rebooting after that, it asked me for passwords to get in, both my account and Guest. Niether of them should have actually had passwords on them, therefore I can't get into the pc now. Tried everything, including using Administrator and password blank, still doesn't work. So on some peoples advice, I decided to do a Xp reinstall, choosing upgrade instead of formatting (so I don't lose everything). When going through that process, it gets to the point where I choose R for repair. It then askes which version to install on, so I say option 1 - Windows. THAT is when more probs come in. It now asks for the Administrator password. I've never given one in the past, and if I have then it's one of two options - either my surname or the word 'computer', so after trying both of those, and also trying a blank password, it then restarts the computer because I've given 3 incorrect passwords. The point is that there IS NO password!! I can't understand why it's asking for one??!! This is really getting me down.

Restore Lost Partition Which Disappeared

Dec 23, 2006

My sole 80 G hard drive had a 15 G FAT 32 partition that is the C drive (partition). My XP Pro SP2 OS is an upgrade from 98, which is why I used FAT32. The balance of the drive is the F drive (partition) is/was formatted as NTFS so I could use it more efficiently in editing video. While using DVD Shrink 3.2 and directing the copy to a folder in F I experienced a lockup. After rebooting I no longer show F. I've tried a sys restore but my only restore point was this morning and that didn't work. When I tried to defrag the hard drive it doesn't show F as it has.

.sudenly Data Lost From System.how To Restore It?

Apr 30, 2010

I've been collecting raw data night and day for research from a subscribed data provider (Worldscope/Datastream) for nearly 3 weeks. I kept the PC running day and night because I set up the "Request Manager" for data query. Every one or two day, I saved the batches of data downloaded, cleaned the raw data using SAS, and then ran the next query, and so on. Everything had been fine until one day when I came back to the office to do the usual tasks. To my surprise, my PC look very, very much like it's been reinstalled from scratch without saving anything. Symptons that persuade me to conclude this way is:

- No files/folders that I set up on desktop were there

- My settings are all totally different: I used to keep Task Bar on the right, now it's at the bottom. All "Favorites" on Internet Explorer/Firefox/Google Chrome are all gone, nothing there, no favorites, no favorite bars....

- Usually, when I use hotmail, skype, yahoo mail, etc..., I entered username and leave the PC remember it so that I won't have to re-enter username everytime I want to check for mails. Now, when I open hotmail, skype or yahoo, it's all gone just as if somebody reset the internet explorer or something

- Previously, whenever inside WORD/EXCEL I always see files on "Recent Documents", or when clicking on Start Menu, I used to see files on "My Recent Documents". NOW, on that terrible day, there's nothing like that. ALL GONE, it looks just like somebody has reinstalled the PC without letting us know

- Previously, I kept the settings for Internet Explorer, let's say I keep small Google on the top far right corner but removed Google toolbar with many features. Now, Google toolbars with full features are there, just as if somebody reinstalled Internet Explorer and reinstalled Google toolbars with full features without customizing

- All things that often stay on "Recent Documents" or things like that in some applications such as SAS, Stata, etc... are all gone

ONE MORE THING: My university sometimes runs maintenance for all PCs in the School and in the lab. I'm talking about this because perhaps the maintenance automatically reinstalled the whole PC??? I suspect it couldn't???

Lost Of Internet Connect / System Restore Brings It Back For A Moment?

May 3, 2010

I am running a PC clone, Win XP SP3. It is using a wired connection to a router. Yesterday, out of no where, I lost connection to the internet. No browsers, Trillian, nothing that uses the internet works. I tried running a virus scan, malware scan and found nothing. I tried doing a system restore and it seemed to work, for a brief moment I had the internet again. Then, once more, it stopped working.

Right now, the current speculation is that the onboard network connection is dying. What I'm trying to find out, is if that is possible or not. I'm not worried about having to buy a card - they're cheap. I am worried about buying a new card and it not fixing the problem. Are there other things that can cause this to happen that I can/should look into first?
