I'm getting a new motherboard, Processor, Ram, and Graphics Card.
I want to add these to my existing setup, where i will keep the 2 hard drives, the 2 dvd drives, floppy, and sound card. ONe of the Hard Drives has WinXp on it. Will there be any problems by doing this? Will the OS be ok with recognizing the new hardware? Will Windows complain about authentication?
Recently I took unusual step of visiting Windows update. This was just to double check that the system I was working on was absolutely up to date.Automatic update was set to Auto. Windows update website informed me that a critical update was required. it turned out to be the Windows Bogus (Genuine) Advantage Authentication... I had no choice but to Activate the system before I was allowed to continue checking for updates. Bloody cheek! passing off this 'Genuine advantage authentication' as a critical update. One day I am bound to come across a system that does not pass this authentication. Will the system be usable or will they lock the system until I have made a groveling phone call or worse have to inform my customer/neighbour/friend of a friend that "Sorry I know you just wanted me to check your system was up to date but now you must pay £200 for an Operating system"
I have a laptop(dell latitude cpi) my kid entered a password and now I can't access windows. Every time I turn it on a message comes on saying:This computer system#xxxxx is protected by a password authentication system you can not access the data without the correct password Please type in the primary or administrator password. My kid does not remember what password he used. Does any body Knows how to remove the password since I can not access the bios either?

I am having this problem for sometime now.I running XP pro SP2. I use Symantec Antivirus ver 9.0.0.338. Everytime I start windows, the windows security Alert comes up with the alert to check my AV. I have my AV up to date but still I am asked to check it all the time by windows security alert. In the recommendations tab,It states Symantec Antivirus reports that it is installed but its status is unknown. The 2 options it gives are :Make sure your antivirus is up to date and turned on or get another Antivirus.

1.Open just one window of IE.
2.Click the "View" menu, then "Status Bar"
3.Hold down Ctrl while clicking the X to close the window.
4.Open My Computer
5.Click the "View" menu, then "Status Bar"
6.Click the "Tools" menu, then "Folder Options"
7.Click the "View" tab
8.Click "Apply to all folders"
9.Click "OK"
10.Close Windows Explorer.

When me and my wife moved in with her parents to help take care of her father.When he passed I was givin his computer wich was left on and password protected.What I did was create another user account as an administrater and demoted him to just a user figuring that would allow me to remove his password.I forgot to bump him back up to administrator before I deleted the other user and now I am stuck with only 1 account and it has no administrator rights.I do not have the windows XP disk either =/ I would like to change the account back to administrator and retain the files as well.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have been referred to MSN as a source of help for this problem. Although I am an AOL subscriber, I access MSN Messenger, and the MSN Gaming Zone daily. My PC uses Windows XP, and for the past few days I have have been booted from both MSN areas, after a short time of usage. Then I am also booted from AOL. Upon sign on, a warning comes up saying that I have limited or no connectivity to my local area connection. I was told by AOL NOT to disable this, as it may also disable my connection to AOL.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems my HDD doesn't seem to be on according to System Restore under status. Device Manager also comes up with nothing, however my GFX card seems to be working even though it is not being detected. I can access all the files in my HDD too. I have no other HDD plugged in or CD Drives in (the CD drive worked when it was in). Also, the bars and such seem to be in the Windows 98 style not XP, as if it was in safe mode. I have looked at the msconfig and it is on normal start up however it is not working. I also cannot change the computers name, etc.I have tried to reinstall Windows but it comes up "0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000". I have googled this and things have come up but they do not suite my situation as I only have 1 HDD (And yes it is plugged in properly as well as the CD drive).I would also like to ask if a HDD should be the Master IDE or whether the CD drive should be.
this has been an issue on my laptop for awhile and I guess only now am I getting around to figuring it out.Whenever I try to auto sync the time on my computer, no matter which server I choose from the drop down bar, it gives me An error occurred getting the status of the last synchronization. The RPC server is unavailable.
This is a home computer, and has been an issue connecting from several places on several networks. I tried turning the firewall off but that didn't do it.
I read up a little on various forums about this problem, and from what I could pick out that I could understand (I'd say I'm somewhere between Beginner and Intermediately computer savvy) there have been issues with Windows Time in the Services menu. I went into there to check that out (it was my first time in the Services menu) and lo and behold, no Windows Time on the list. Several other Windows XXXXX, but no Windows Time.?
STatus code 1073741819. System Says it will shut down at aprox a few seconds.. and shuts down i need some serious help on this issue. to be more specific i have REformattedd the harddrive and reinstalled windows XP and im getting this status code for shutdown.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been suffering through a weird phenomenon lately. Whenever I go to IE the first time of any boot or reboot, it "hangs" after filling up the status bar for several minutes, then releases and all is well. (NOTE: I don't think this is IE-specific. It has happened booting apps, but I notice it most with IE as I use it extensively.) When things seem to lock up, EVERYTHING is locked up. I can't even bring up Task Manager, none of the icons in the Task Bar are active, etc. Sometimes I can Tab through other apps that are open, sometimes not, but when I can, the app is "frozen" until whatever is going on finishes. During this time, I can watch the process light (I have a Dell D600 laptop) going nuts. Before and after this event, I have run the system through the latest updates of utilities such as Ad-Aware Plus, Ad-Watch, PestPatrol, Symantec Antivirus, Ace Utilities, RegSeeker, etc., and none of them sends up a flag that anything is wrong.
My machine is always up-to-date via Windows Update feature, so I don't know what is causing this. I had the bright idea to reinstall XP SP2, but can't. Every time I try, it quits, giving me nothing more than a smal window with a red X in it and the notification that the install has been cancelled. I ordered the free XPSP2 CD just to see if that would make any difference, but I get the same error. I suspect I could attempt a slipstream install, but I don't want to go through all that if anyone out there recognizes this problem and knows what the solution is outside of doing a slipstream reinstall of SP2. Finally, I have several times done System Restores going back as far as I can, but while they have been successful (although I usually have to do the restore in Safe Mode as they will often fail otherwise), it has made no difference related to this problem.
Everytime I seem to connect to the internet my computer freezes and I have to restart (physically press the reset button) my computer. I am using windows xp. At times the following message appears "C Windows/system 32/lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code 1073741819 system will now shut down and restart" I dont know if the freezing and restarting are linked faults. I have run several antivirus software and Ad-aware but the problem still persists.
