Sometimes my computer is running kinda slow, so I look on Task Manager and Internet Explorer is using between 60,000 and 100,000 K. I've already run SuperAntispyware and only cookies came up.
In Win 98SE when I go to system properties and performance tab I can see a number free resource%.How do I get this number in Win XP and Win 2000? Does a higher figure really indicate that the computer is doing well?

My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

I recently put a new hard drive in my computer. Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. I scanned the registry with Registry Fix and fixed all problems. It still starts every time. Netscape has no like problem starting.
I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.
C:WindowsTemporary Internet Filescontent.ie5, which i cannot seem to do. They say i should see a series of 4 or more random 8 character names like "ADOZMZS1", which again, I cannot figure this out. So if anyone could
I turned off my computer and everything worked fine. I turned it on today and when I open my Internet Explorer I get the message "Page cannot be displayed" My Netscape browser works fine. I called Comcast they ran all the diagnosis from their end and said something got corrupted in Internet Explorer. They said it could be a win-sock problemI am running Windows XP, Internet Explorer v.6.0.2800.1106 and using Service pack 1.The only thing I can think to do is uninstall my Internet Explorer, download a new version from Microsoft, and install it.I thought a would ask for a second opinion before I before I tried anything.
computer in my possession crashed, and when i reset, my internet has gone wonky. I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. Limewire, also, will connect, but wont download anything without msn being logged in. How do i get back to how it was? And no, system restore did not work.
I read that in TOOLS--->Internet options--->Advance, there's a setting that I can make the pulldown manu not be truncated. I can't find it for the life of me.
I am having problems starting both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. So far I've had no success in locating a solution. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I should also note that the control panel won't function either since it is basically part of Windows Explorer.
Not sure how that happened or if i have a virus of some sort. I cannot see in IE the file-edit-tools-windows menu at the top of the navagation icons. I have a virus scanner that updates daily, so may be that my grand daughter changed something. How do i restore them back to the way it was?
My users are unable to access the internet via Internet Explorer 7.With Firefox and changes in the proxy it works good, however, unable to access with Internet Explorer.
I'm thinking maybe the user's profile has problem. However, after deleting the user's profile and have her logged in to create a new profile, it still would not work.
How come it works with Firefox but not with Internet Explorer?
My son in law's XP computer connects to internet with IE only. It will not allow site signons or logins. It will not update anti virus (free AVG) or connect with Firefox or Netscape. The firewall is not blocking. I checked all admin service permissions and can't find any problems. I also tried Winsock Fix. I'm stumped on this and don't know what to do next

A friend of mine installed the Mozilla browser and I didnt like it so I uninstalled it. Anyways to make a long story short..Since then,In the address bar (ie icon), and all my internet links (internet shortcuts) show as an unassigned file type now. So for instance if I drag an http link from my browser to my desktop...it does not show as an ie link anymore (just a random file type). So when I right click my internet links and say "open with" internet explorer it works. However...when I select the check box "always open with this program" it will not change all of my internet shortcuts appear with the "IE" icon like it should

I installed a parental control program for Internet Explorer, but it was not allowing AOL to dial any numbers. Also, after shutting down the AOL, Windows XP would shut down the parental control program saying that it was malfunctioning. So I decided to delete the parental control program from my hard drive, and I used the uninstall program of the parental control program to uninstall it. After the uninstall, I noticed that I could dial and use the AOL browser as usual, but I could not use Internet Explorer. Any web pages that I tried to visit using IE would not display, and Internet Explorer would say, This page cannot be displayed.
i just bought a hp pavilion desktop that apparently has the sasser worm on it as i kept getting the countdown popup. i put on avg antivirus and removed 19 different worms and virus's. i then ran ad-aware and spybot s&d and removed over 400 entries. i have researched and applied how to get rid of the sasser virus but i still get the countdown popup occasionally. i also can not get any updates from microsoft to download. all i get is an error. since it still does odd things every now and then i think the best bet is just to completely format the hard drive. i want to get rid of everything including the hidden partition hp puts on for recovery. i received all the recovery cd's that came with the system when it was originally bought. i do not have a stand alone xp home cd for it. is win xp home on those recovery disks and are they all i will need to format the hard drive?
My computer usage stays at about 100%. My aol software.exe constantly use about 80 % While some csrss.exe takes up the rest. My computer is rea slow now. I had this problem before and it went away. I can't remember what I did.
The daylight saving i try to install the manual updates and i found the microsoft web side but i cant under stand what is the "windows resource kit" is i am new to the job so.
Is there such a program? Some software programs like, video and audio converters use a lot of CPU resources. As I don't have a modern 2 core cpu this can be annoying when doing conversions and trying to watch a h264 encoded movie at the same time. It would be cool to be able to "throttle down" some programs so as to make my computer more efficient. At least until I upgrade to 4 cores.
I recently installed the windows recource kit for windows XP, 2000 and 2003. The resource kit provides a program called "Subinacl.exe". This program can be used to set permissions, edit registery items, set users, etc. Now my problem. The program works on all our windows machines (they have basically the same programs installed), except on one machine. When I try to run it there, it just hangs, it has no read or write input / output, it just stops responding. I thought about a permissions problem, but when i provide full rights to the program (cmd started as administrator), it still hangs. A security policy? checked it. All the machines have the same policy's. Actually, i don't know what the problem could be now.
