View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with my screen freezing (first the screensaver froze - I turned it off, then the cursor froze - requires reset, every few hours). The last time this happened I also got a message saying "Dr Watson postmortem debugger has encountered an error and needs to close". Where do I start looking to solve this? Ive run Memtest - all clear (both channels, both modules). I did have an intermittent "Computer wont start" problem that I traced to an ill-fitting long plug on the motherboard - re-seated. A while back I installed Hijack This to problem solve something else but have since forgotten how to use it . I assume my system is producing logs of all this, but where do I look for them?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had the following problem while logging on to my computer (Windows XP) this morning: While starting up I get an error message saying Windows Explorer must shut down (with the option of sending an error message to MS) even though WE was never open to begin with. When I try to open anything up, like IE or Word I get an error message from Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger saying something about it needing to close (can't remember exactly since I'm at work now). The computer then freezes up and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete out. I ran McAfee Virus Scan and it discovered I had a trojan (netpals). It was apparently cleaned but when I tried opening something up I got the same error messages.I cannot open any programs using my Start menu or clicking on the desktop icon.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWindows Explorer keeps crashing on me, so when I click on 'send error report' DR Watson Postmortem debugger comes on, but that locks up too. So, I end up having to end Dr Watson's task to unlock the programs and get everything done. Some days I never need to do it, but some days (like today), I've had to do this repeatedly, like, seven times within an eight hour period.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using a Dell Computer with windows xp. My problem is every time I click My Documents, My Pictures, or just about anything on the right side in the start nenu the message, "Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger has a problem and needs to close." Send report, don't send. No matter what I hit the arrow&hour glass appears and the computer freezes up, and I have to use Task Manager to restart. I've tried System Restore, but it says It has no resore point, but the programs in start menu work in safe mode. Can anyone help me with Dr. Watson please?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI cant open some of my desktop icons and I cant get into my computer and control panel by icon or start up button. Every time I try a message pops up that reads Data Execution Prevention. When I close the window it asks me either to send message or it reads Dr Watson Postmortern Debugger. Then it will either completly seize up or do a quick explorer reboot where all the icons and task bar will disapear and then reapear. I have searched for all pests, viruses, trojans, malware, viruses etc with, spybot, trend micro house call, ca e-trust antivirus, ad aware and it comes up clean.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter leaving my computer turned off for spring break, I returned to find a few things wrong with it. First, the little red alert from microsoft was in the corner saying that I had suspicious activity on my computer. Second, none of my folders will open. If I double-click a folder, the computer freezes for about 30 seconds, the desktop blinks, and I get the above error message, and I still can't open folders. I ran a virus scan and pulled up a good 7 infected files, but deleted them all and restarted...same problem. I also ran a spyware program and found the same spyware that I've had for a few months now, so I don't think that's the problem. I tried restarting in safe mode and folders open perfectly, with no problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I have received a problem where I can't open a folder that has a gigabyte or more space used. I have several folders that contain a little less than a gb and they open and let me do what I want without any problems. When I open a folder with a gb or more it opens and lets me see the files and then I get a Windows Explorer popup saying that Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down, I clicked the error report and this is what it says: AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: filesystemflags.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 00002ddd
And when I close the Windows popup I get a Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger popup and I clicked the error report but it won't let me read the details, so I have to Ctl, Alt, Del to close the non-responsive program.I have scanned the computer for virses and spyware and came up negative on both of those, so I don't know what is wrong or what to do to fix this. I have previously had folders with several gb's used when I was storing video to transfer to dvd and I never had this problem.
I downloaded sp2, but now I have thie Dr Watson Posmortem debugger window that opens on restart and my whole system freezes---I can't even close the Dr Watson window. What is this and how do I get rid of it?My system was virus and spyware free.

Click OK to terminate Click Cancel to debug.I tried BOTH Cancel and then OK with no results. When I clicked OK the programs would eventually come up, but I've found my application SCREEN SHOT DELUXE won't come up don't know if that is related or not. Also, had a little problem with Word Perfect on one boot, don't know EXACTLY what or IF these would be affected by this problem.I have a Dell 8250, Windows XP Pro, 512 RAM, 120 gig hard drive, 2.5 GHz.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI get an application error on start up before ever making a move to open any programs. The instruction at "0x009a6f9a" referenced memory at "0x00000000" could not be written. The moment I noticed this issue was after an install of my Printer/Fax/scanner by HP, It is a wireless printer so the firewall asked if it should unblock for the install process. My question is should I try to go back to a restore point before that install or is there a workaround for this error.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI posted about an "uncountable boot error" that my other computer had and, the day before that happened, i thought i backed up my information but it turns out i only copied the information to the cdrw drive but had not written it.and the original files (though i am not sure about the ones that were waiting in the cdrw drive) i am pretty sure i deleted ..and the cd i have does show all the files i thought i had backed up, but when i try to view any one of them they are not viewable (for example, html files will come up as gibberish). the other computer that had the error is up and running - i don't think there was any reformatting, only chkdsk, but i am not sure (without being there to look) .if this even matters.. whether any of the files are still waiting on the cdrw drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently updated XP pro to SP2. I am having a problem now right-clicking files anywhere on my system. Windows will hang and give me an error about "Dr. Watson postmortem has caused an error and needs to close". After waiting a minute or two explorer.exe will close and open again and I receive an event id 1002 saying "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted."
What makes this even weirder is that I can right click on shortcuts and other desktop icons with no problem, its just when I right click files no matter where they are either on the desktop or somewhere on the harddrive. I have uninstalled SP2 and tried to see if the problem went away and yes it did. I then reinstalled SP2 again and the problem is back!
I started receiving at startup the following error: "Data Execution Prevention - To help protect your computer windows as closed this program Name: Windows Explorer
Publisher: Microsoft Corp" I had gone to MyComputer, properties and put windows explorer in the exception list. And it loaded up ok after that. This morning it started giving the same error plus another one: "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a poblem" and has closed. In addition to the above, I can't click or start anything. The screen looks like it's loaded up correctly but then I am not able to start or use any program.only option I can choose is to see the task manager. Now the screensaver has come on and moving the mouse doesn't take it back to the normal screen. I really am not sure what the problem is I am writing this post from another PC.
