I think i picked up a virus after formatting. My pc is running like crap. I can't even download anything to remove viruses and annoying shareware. I have a hijackthis log below. if you can see my problem or know how to help feel free to guide me.

View 39 Replies View RelatedI don't know how or where but symptoms are as follows. I cannot connect to the internet very well. It seems as though any websites i try to surf onto that could pose helpful do not load. When I try to boot from the Cd upon start up my keyboard will not respond. Nor can I enter safe mode because of the disabled keyboard. I cannot update my anti virus and ad removal programs I cannot roll back the system what so ever. I basically can't do much of anything without it being shut down.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my desktop the icons have picked up a blue box with >>. Some have a white box with a little right leaning arrow.Note: the system has slowed down. I was using Comcasts free McaVee and then got a notice that my free subscription has expired. Comcast now provided Norton for free, so I went there and downloaded that virus software. While de bugging I have cleaned errors uncovered by CheckIt Register Cleaner program and Skybot. On booting it takes it's time. The McaVee burped when I reset to a earlier starting point (one day).running standard PC with XP. I have updated windows. I don't have KB977165. I see from below this is incorrect. I do have this pill???? I am a novice (but old) user, easily confused.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhile working on my wireless on my laptop and logged onto our wireless signal, my pc advised me that it had picked up a second ip address that now conflicts with another item running on my network. Why would there be a second IP address? What does this mean? What do I do about it? I am running XP home, Zone Alarm in stealth mode and my router is a linksys. Not sure what other information I would need to provide. I click on the message in hopes that it would provide more info, but it just dissappeared. There doesn't seem any change in my computer as far as I can see.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy computer keeps coming up with code 0x0000008e which i have been told that its a ram fault. the ram is new 2gb. the company i bought it from told me to run memtest from boot up as i cant run windows xp at moment. memtest86.com has a bootable iso download which i have done and extrcted so on. but it comes up as an unreconised file now i have writen to disk and set up bios to 1st boot but i cant get it to work allso downloaded winzip which picked up the files and copyed that to disk but still will not work. i must be being thick or stupid and missing some thing can any help talk me through using it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a Gateway notebook with Vista. I got a router from Belkin. I was on a fairly new desktop with XP2. I followed all the instructions and got the notebook on the internet. Then when it came to setting up security, all went bad. The notebook wouldn't "take" the phrase I picked out. OK so I unplug everything and decide to send the router back. I go back on the desktop where there were 3 users (2 limited and me admin. It won't let me log in as admin. I tried on all 3 names anyway to no avail. Everytime I clicked on ANYTHING it said "error file cannot be found invalid path" something like that. System restore I couldn't even bother with because like I said, clicking on anything just gave me error messages.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled my OS and all my software, shortly thereafter I noticed I had an issue where any sound that was coming through my headphones was being retransmitted through the mic, with further testing I found that this was not actually the case but rather any sound that would be output is being retransmitted as audio in, even if I had no speakers, headphones or mics connected. I have looked at and experimented with everything I could in every sound settings.
I have tried updated drivers, the only way for me to stop the issue from occurring is to mute the mic in the recording control, but that stops me from using the mic altogether. I need to be able to use my mic without recording anything that I am hearing as well.
I have the trojan horse virus. I'm running AVG Anti-Virus.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy PC recently got a fairly nasty virus (W32-Sinowal-based Maximus! or something along those lines) so we had to get it wiped. A few days later, my computer was all messed up again. I can only boot up in Safe Mode, my sound doesn't work, and it is running slower than normal. I need to find out if I have another virus (although the guy who fixed it downloaded Norton Anti-Virus and it seemed fine for a few days) or if maybe my computer is just dying. It's about three years old and apparently it was outdated before we even bought it. Is there any way the virus could have affected the computer's hard drive or whatever (yeah, I don't quite know what I'm talking about) or have I maybe gotten another virus?

I think that I got rid of it, but I am not sure could anyone that can read a log please tell me if there is anything else left in the computer. The computer now doesn't stay on-line it disconnects itself. I called the company that provides me with my internet service, and they said that I need a filter for the phone line. The person told me that, that will take care of the problem of the internet disconnecting. I think that it could be the virus I had in the computer. I wasn't able to get on-line for at least a week, I had gone and checked the disk for errors and finally the anti-virus program was able to find the virus's.

Norton AntiVirus 2003 initially caught the virus and it supposedly deleted it, so I was not concerned with the message details. However, almost immediately after receiving the message I realized the virus was not completely removed. A DOS window popped up two or three times and then Norton shutdown. I tried opening Norton again but it would not open. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it would not reinstall. I tried the Windows Update site and the page shows no conent. Any ideas on how to identify the virus so I can take steps to remove it?

I have around 110 gig of stuff and I don't want to lose it. So I bought a firewire drive to back it all up on. My plan is, transfer all my data to the external hd. Then formatting my hd completley and rebooting as new, then transferring my needed data abck on to my pc.
I've never formatted before so not to sure how. My main worry is the pc not restarting. I have a start up cd that came with my pc but i have no windows xp cd it came pre installed.
Well, as the title suggests, i'm the latest in what is seemingly a long line of people having trouble attempting to perform the same task - reformatting a laptop running on Windows XP to run on a fresh, clean, smooth, lovely version of XP SP2.
I have read through every single topic with reference to what I am trying to do, and am still COMPLETELY lost. I have tried absolutely everything I can think of, my friend can think of, everything that has been suggested on various websites to no avail. I must just be doing things wrong.
My cpu kept crashing at random times so i decided to reformat , during re-formatting my cpu crashed now when i turn my cpu on it says and everything loads just before i can go on desktop it says winodws restarting and restarts my cpu ! and when i try and reformat it begins to reformat then minutes later says Error:missing files.

View 3 Replies View Relatedhave to internal HD's. One has several large important files on it, including the OS XP, the other, I am going to format and install XP on this. I am switching HD's OS, for my own reasons. Ok, so my problem is, I need to leave these big files on this drive with the current OS loaded, so I won't loose them and when I go to boot windows from the new, fresh XP, I plan to unplug the other drive, which has windows on it, so it will not attempt to boot from 2 operating systems. Can I then, after XP has booted, plug in the old XP loaded HD, to then be able to xfer the big files from that to the other, without it having a conflict? If so, then I can format that drive and I'll be set. I don't have any other way of storing these file, during this transition. (no thumb drive or anything) Sorry if i have not explain well enough.
