I wanted to know if it was possible to reinstall the OS on the same partition on which it was formerly installed without uninstalling the first instance and still be able to use my programs. I know it is possible to have 2 instances of XP on the same partition. I just don't know if the programs of the first instance is accessible through the second. If not, how do I make it accessible?

When I want to use Yahoo or other programs that require integration from windows I get warning messages. I want to just start from scratch. (all programs and apps are on the hard drive and accessable from explorer) is there a function that allows me to format and remove all info except windows? Otherwise I have to reinstall/repair all programs

BUT it still save my Files. I have my orginial files in my Documents folders and In my Program Files It has all the Programs and files that go with that program? How do I zap everything back on my desktop screen so I don't have to go Download each files as new again??? And I how do i get my Internet Favorite Links and my Notepad with my saved information in it? Yes I did try the "Start" and then program files and none of the programs are there.. BUT yet it is in my Program Hard drive C: Program files. with the Program and all it's content?

I tried posting a question on another usenet newsgroup, but the answer of: click on install on the C:windowsinfpchealth.inf file - resulted in a search for the file dataspec.xml in the C:windowsinfi386 directory - Unfortunately, such directory does not exist on my C: drive. Furthermore, the "K:I386" directory of my Original Win XP Home CD does not contain any file named "dataspec.xm_ or .xml".And beyond that, I ordered a new Win XP SP2 CD, which just now arrived by mail - and there is no "K:I386" directory on that CD, nor does the CD apparently contain any file called "dataspec" (including dataspec.*).Another effort toward resolution occurred via another usenet post I read, which suggested opening the XP command line feature and executing a system status command, that displayed enabled services - I used that method, and switched the Help and Support service off and then on again. Such action did not in-fact enable the Help feature (including, of course restart), despite the indication that the Help and Support service was enabled. I am, and have been, running a purchased-CD version of Win XP Home, with a downloaded SP2 revision (I have not installed the new Win XP SP2 CD). Basically, I want to find out the means and methods for enabling my Win XP SP2 Help and Support feature, that apparently has been disabled or otherwise rendered inoperative.Is a reinstall of Win XP possible and the best choice? View 2 Replies View RelatedBecause of massive system porblems I have had t reinstall XP Pr with SP2. Before reinstalling XP I formmated the hard drives t give me a blank canvas to work. The reinstall worked fine but I cannot reinstall my Virgin Media Bradband service. Before the reinstall the bradband service was wrking fine..When I originall took out the bradband service it was through NTL. My cable modem states 'NTL' and the broadband disk has NTL' on it and I registered it tthough NTL. Now Virgin Media has bought up NTl annd I don't know if there is a compatibility prblem. I've already gone through all the steps to correct this (checking my DSL speed, anti-spyware scans, anti-virus scans, doing it all in safe mode, even reset my winsock.dll, etc.) but I'm still having problems with slow browsers. So now I think I'm faced with reinstalling Windows XP. My question is, should I do a format & reinstall, or is it better to reinstall Windows over my existing version? I have a Compaq Presario, and it comes with a Recovery CD.

I have around 110 gig of stuff and I don't want to lose it. So I bought a firewire drive to back it all up on. My plan is, transfer all my data to the external hd. Then formatting my hd completley and rebooting as new, then transferring my needed data abck on to my pc.
I've never formatted before so not to sure how. My main worry is the pc not restarting. I have a start up cd that came with my pc but i have no windows xp cd it came pre installed.
Well, as the title suggests, i'm the latest in what is seemingly a long line of people having trouble attempting to perform the same task - reformatting a laptop running on Windows XP to run on a fresh, clean, smooth, lovely version of XP SP2.
I have read through every single topic with reference to what I am trying to do, and am still COMPLETELY lost. I have tried absolutely everything I can think of, my friend can think of, everything that has been suggested on various websites to no avail. I must just be doing things wrong.
My cpu kept crashing at random times so i decided to reformat , during re-formatting my cpu crashed now when i turn my cpu on it says and everything loads just before i can go on desktop it says winodws restarting and restarts my cpu ! and when i try and reformat it begins to reformat then minutes later says Error:missing files.

View 3 Replies View Relatedhave to internal HD's. One has several large important files on it, including the OS XP, the other, I am going to format and install XP on this. I am switching HD's OS, for my own reasons. Ok, so my problem is, I need to leave these big files on this drive with the current OS loaded, so I won't loose them and when I go to boot windows from the new, fresh XP, I plan to unplug the other drive, which has windows on it, so it will not attempt to boot from 2 operating systems. Can I then, after XP has booted, plug in the old XP loaded HD, to then be able to xfer the big files from that to the other, without it having a conflict? If so, then I can format that drive and I'll be set. I don't have any other way of storing these file, during this transition. (no thumb drive or anything) Sorry if i have not explain well enough.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI went to format my pc, using the recovery bootdisk i have.Im on XP.I put the disk in and typed in dos, format c:. everything seemed to be goin a ok and then it asked for teh volume label, i pressed enter then rebooted my pc with the disk in again. I then typed format c: again as i thought the origional format didnt happen. I then get a message saying that this disk is not able to format. the bootdisk also doesnt seem to load correctly now either.

Due to a virus I caught I had to format the windows partition and reinstall all the drivers and stuff. Everything seems to work fine except for the internet. It's not that I don't have any connection but it is extremely slow, I cannot connect at all to some specific sites (such as www.blue-whitegt.com) and after a while it's completely lost.
