Operating System Registry Recovery
Sep 18, 2007
Every time I start this computer I get the following window."Window Registry Recovery:One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful"My computer is running XP SP2. Its a Gateway 450 Notebook computer (about 4 years old)At another site, someone suggested that the HD is failing. Before I purchase a new drive, does anyone know of a differnt cause that may be causing this?

Firstly, I have lost the Windows XP Operating System Disk given by the manufacture company for every new PC being purchased. Secondly, I encountered this error message: fltmgr.sys is corrupted, setup will be cancelled after I tried to boot into the recovery environment via the recovery disk given by manufacture company.
Thirdly, I need advice on how to restore my PC into default factory settings and I have already backup my data

I tried to do a System Recovery today on my Sony laptop. Got 41% completed and had a fatal error. Options given were Ignore, Retry or Abort. Attempted a Retry. Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.

I couldn't seem to find the appropriate section for this, so move this to another section if it's unrelated. I was reading through this networking textbook about operating systems and I just found out that a computer can have more than one operating system. I have Windows XP installed through the Data Drivers Recovery CD and that's all I got related to my computer OS WINXP. If I wanted to install Windows XP to another computer that had Windows Vista, with that CD, is it possible, even though it says Data Drivers Recovery CD? Or do I need the actual Installation of WINDOWS XP (and other OS'S?).

I had to reformat and reinstall Win XP and then restore from backups, some didn't work as advertised.I can't reinstall Acronis True Image because it didn't fully uninstall. There is an entry "[13:51:18 - Error]: Failed to remove "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareAcronis"! Windows core returned the following error: "Invalid key"" which my registry cleaner can't remove. Using regedit I tried but I got the same msg.

I am trying to do a system recovery back to the original condition and I have taken what I need to save. I have talked to HP tech twice and 1 told me I need to buy a special automated recovery cd from them. The other said not to do that and I need to use the two cds I have (1. operating system cd, 2. Applications and Drivers dvd). Operating system is Windows XP professional on a HP laptop.I have completed the following steps. Can any one tell me if I am doing the right thing?
1)I put in the operating system cd and shut down the computer.
2) I started it back up useing the cd (by hitting any button when it asks).
3) I press Enter on the next menu to "set up windows xp now"
4) I press F8 to agree to license agreement
5) I press ESC "to continue installing afresh copy of windows xp without repairing". Below it has the following highlighted "C:windows "microsoft windows xp professional"

I run WindowsXP Home and after long shutdown periods (ie. overnight), the following dialogue box appears at startup:Window Registry Recovery One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful.I would say this message appears 90% of the time, and so far my computer runs fine. I should also say that it started appearing after I installed NortonAV 2006 and updated Windows with SP2. I have since uninstalled Norton, but it still appears.

I made the stupid mistake of running the rollup 2 application for MCE 2005. Of course an error appeared and the installation was not successful. As a result the setup program decided to restart my PC and use system restore to restore the computer back to the period prior to that accidental installation. Now everytime I either logon to a user account or logoff back to the welcome screen I get the following message:
Windows - Registry Recovery
One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternative copy. The recovery was successful. The only button I can click is OK - so I do so and I carry on. Under my Dad's and sister's account this message doesn't appear so often but they keep screaming at me when it does, accusing me of "tampering" with the registry when I have done no such thing...............

This article can be found at the following address: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545 just for reference. When I get into the Recovery Conbsole it does not ask me for the Administrator password or any password for that matter but I can not complete the instructions given in the article on the Microsoft Support webpage.

I need to do a System Recovery to restore my system back to its factory settings (I'm using WinXP Home). When I hit F10 upon startup in order to access the system recovery, nothing happens- it boots as it would regularly. I was able to boot up using the CD, and am now in the System Recovery console. Might anyone tell me what I need to do to perform a non-destructive, or even a destrucitve system recovery?

I'm running Windows XP SP3 with everything up to date as far as I know. I have the complete set of my PC's OEM Disks that I've used once when my OS was completely messed up, had Geeks Rescue out and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I know what they are for. What I'm not understanding are the several tools I'm afraid to open listed in my "Start"/"All Programs" I have both "Compaq"/"Compaq Presario PC Tools" with "Compaq Application Recovery"/"Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creator"/"Compaq Recovery Tools CD"/"Compaq Support Information"/"Compaq System Recovery"/"Remote Assistance"/"Safety and Comfort Guide"

I shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.

The situation: A reasonably new PC, clean and working properly. Several new programs are installed, including Firefox, Winamp, desktop publishing, photo manager, and security software (not the antivirus, standalone scanners.) Everything appears to be fine.I log on to Windows Live OneCare to use their "Safety Scanner" to, as they say, check for PC health issues and optimize performance. Mind you, the site recommends users log on once a month for the full service scan. As you know, the scan includes the removal of what it refers to as invalid registry entries. "Oh boy," right? The registry. Except you'd like to believe the official Microsoft site won't screw up your programs.

Should I ever use one of the utility programs to wipe my hard drive completely, how do I reinstall Windows XP since the CD driver has been erased? How can you reinstall an operating system that is on CD when you have no driver for the CD player? The reason I am asking these questions is that I might want to give my computer to friend and I want my stuff off of the hard drive and my friend to be able to use the computer.

I read somewhere?{and forgot to note where} that system restore "does not restore everything"! Correct? What doesn't it restore? Isn't it primarily personal stuff that you should backup anyway? Can anyone provide a list of what it doesn't restore or provide a link to? that gives this info?Is it in the help/tutorial/tour of xp and other OSs that have it?Remember! =There's no such thing as a stupid question but they're the easiest to answer!" TSG says so! So there!
