I definitley have some sort of virus on my computer and all sorts of pop ups keep coming up on my computer encouraging me to buy a program. I can't get to any other websites besides the one for this program as an alert pops up on the browser sayng my computer is infected. Also everytime I try to open a file a "Windows Security Alert" pops up and says that whatever file I sm trying to open is infected. This is a probloem because I have tried opening task manager, system configuration, and even using the run function wiuth different commands and nothing will open! I also tried downloaging Ad-aware on my external harddrive and then running it from there but it won't open either!
Whenever I do a "disk cleanup" on my hard drive, it shows a whole bunch of categories which can be cleaned up.When I do, there's one category ("Web Client/Publisher Temporary Files" )which always shows 32KB before AND after the clean-up.Could that be associated woth FrontPage 2003, and if so, where are these 32 KB hiding? (Which files[s] I mean?) How come "Disk Cleanup" does not delete these files, even though it tells me that "these files can be deleted safely"?Can I delete them manually?
I get this cyclic redundancy check error when I try to copy files from a DVD-RW onto my hard drive. I burnt said DVD about two years ago using Cyberlink DVD Solution Power2Go. I get this error with mulitiple DVDs, but not all of them (I've got five and I get this error with only three). Also, I get the error with some files, but not others (on the same DVD). I really can't lose these files! My guess is they were burnt wrong, but I'm really not sure. Is there any way I can recover these files?
My laptop, a Toshiba, running XP Home, became infected and it had Norton's pre-installed [she never updated it].It barely booted and eventually I uninstalled it and have since ran a MULTITUDE of anti virus apps in an attempt to clean the poor thing: Panda, AVG, McAfee, they all did half a job and sometimes even gave up. Avast and Spybot seem to have done the trick... or... have they? The laptop is still snoozing and crashing everytime I open a browser. I don't know what to do.
I believe one of my computers is infected with a virus. I have virus removal software (malwarebytes), however when I try to open the .exe file nothing happens. It seems that my computer can no longer open .exe files and thats a serious problem for me in getting rid of the malware on my machine.
So it seems that I have 2 problems now.
Problem #1. My computer cannot open any .exe files.
Problem #2. My computer is infected with some type of malware
I'm wondering if it's safe to do that. I would guess that individual documents wouldn't be infected. I wouldn't want to infect my new computer. Afterwards, I plan to reformat the drive and re-install the operating system. The infected machine is an older one, so I may use it for simple word processing or older games or give it away. I know that reformating won't destroy old files beyond recovery but I'd hope it would take care of any viruses. I don't have any personal economic info on it since I haven't used a program like Quicken or Money.
I know the machine has at least one virus (about.com) and may have others since many of the programs that should take care of this stopped working after I installed Windows Service Pack 2. I gather others had similar problems after doing the same. Perhaps the most annoying is that I can't access the icons on the bottom of the screen. That includes files you minimize.
computer has become infected with a virus. What i was going to do was reinstall XP and just start over. My mom had some word documents that she wanted to keep backed up. My question was if it would be safe to put these word files on a flash drive, or even connect my flash drive, and then put those files on the new installation. i also had nod 32 installed. should i scan the files with that before? and should i boot it in safe mode before doing the transfer?
I did remove virus efeected files and my PC is behaving badly, it responds very slow to commands and freezes. Here is the log. Can anybody help me to resore my computer
C:WINDOWSTELNET.EXE Ist das Trojanische Pferd TR/Dldr.Small.RN.1 That's what AntiVir. told me today - and I have no idea how to get rid of it, as marking the option "delete" on AntiVir doesn't seem to effectively delete the file.I haven't spotted or better said, felt, any anomalies in the doing of any things to do on my PC...but the fact that the Trojan is there disturbs me greatly since I don't know what exactly it will destroy when it fully activates itself.Just now again it gave me this alert: C:WINDOWSLASTGOODSYSTEM32TELNET.EXE Ist das Trojanische Pferd TR/Dldr.Small.RN.1
disk management error. unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager Service. At this point I've tried enough methods and internet - suggested fixes. Disk Management tool does not work :error "SERVER EXECUTION FAILED"
My computer was working perfectly well. I left it on and went out. When I came back it had a black screen saying "boot disk error, insert system disk and press enter" in BIOS. This has happened before but I just hit my pc then rebooted then no problem. This time it didnt work, I have tried to vacuum the interior of my pc but to no avail.
My son gets the message "invalid system disk, replace the disk, then press play" , when booting up, he started getting it after inputting a picture from a "smart card" using his built in card reader. There is NO disk in the reader. If you hit any key the computer continues to boot "normal" It isn't a big problem, but a sign of something not being right.
I am running Win XP-SP2. I wiped my hard drive due to irresolvable software conflicts. I reinstalled XP-SP2, Office, Norton, the printer and scanner and my digital camera software package. All were updated and working perfectly until Sunday. I booted up the machine only to get a warning that says One of your disks may have errors let the computer reboot itself (which it will do repeatedly, stuck in a reboot loop) or you can hit any key to ignore this warning. You have only ten seconds to read all this and make a decision.
Once the computer boots up, everything seems to work as normal except for system restore. I tried to restore to the day after I reformatted and installed everything and all I get is an error saying Cannot restore to that point, please choose another point to restore tooor something to that effect.
In windows XP Pro. Error message: there is no disk in drive Please insert disk. (Refering to A drive). this happened after trouble with an old cable. Replaced the cable and this message pops up on boot.
how come when i reformat, if i do a full format NTFS i get an error at 100% saying the disk may be damaged..butu when i do a quick format, it works fine..?
Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and ive been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.
I always have errors reported on my hard drive, even after chkdsk /f and /f/r."Freespace marked as allocated in the volume bitmap". Why does it never go away? Windows XP Pro with all of the updates. Machine runs fine.
window loads, sits, finally other half will load, mouse just doesn't seem to do anything so you click again and 3 minutes later 2 of whatever will finally open... just annoying crap really A few days ago comcast went off and I had to unplug modem, wait, then plug back up and restart system. I got a "Disk read error press control, alt, delete, to restart" error, tried that same thing so I shut down and when I turned back on it booted fine. I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
I am getting a Windows -No Disk error There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive.I saw that someone had fixed another persons issue in a previous thread and they requested that the person post a hijack the log file.
I am trying to update my EVGA 7800GT's BIOS as well as my motherboard's. I have done this a few months ago, same disks and everything. When I create a floppy with the required files and restart, I get the following message:"Non-system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready."
I was wondering if it was possible to install XP home edition on a harddrive with files already on it without much worry of destroying the files. I've always reformatted before, but I need to save my music.
So I know that the folders in the C: are system folders but what if they are not in a folder and are out side of any folder. I have many files that are random that I can not open. How can I differ what they are and I can delete them? I am down to only 2% on my memory on C: and that is not normal. So any thing I can do?????
I've switched from Windows XP to Windows 2000, because of the fact that I had problems with the GIS program I was working with. Everything went well for a month now, until today. I've uninstalled several programs (not major ones - just mapviewers) to gain more space on the c-drive. I wanted to defrag the c-drive and it gave me an error message "drfgntfs.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You have to restart the program. An error log is being created." I then close defrag and another error message appears "mmc.exe has generated error " the same as above. What am I suppose to do in order to "correct" this?
I got me a 500 gig external disk, that does not come with much s/w. What are some good s/w out there that allow me to manage my backups. I have XP Home.
My son was trying to get access to my computer & couldn't get past the password so inserted the recovery disk & now ALL of my files are gone (pictures, music, banking...etc). Is there any way to get this info back? I tried to use a restore point, but there are none prior to the day he used the recovery disk.
i am running windows xp home. recently every time my computer starts up it comes up with a error "no disk in drive. please insert disk in drive" the message window contains cancel, try again and continue. i have to cancel repeatedly to get it to go away. can anyone help?
