View 6 Replies View RelatedI currently have XP make me password login when I turn it on, but I'm just wondering, is there a way to have it automatically log me in, then go to the switch user screen? I ask this because it usually takes mine a while to load up to the logon screen, but then I have to go back and login before it works properly, so yeah, I'd just like to get it to log me in, load up, then got to the switch user screen so that I can go watch TV for half an hour, come back, and be ready to go.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought this computer, and after only 3 months later, my compter started to make weird buzzing noises when its in the screensaver mode. Its no doubt a virus but norton cant detect it... I never knew viruses can affect sounds on a pc.
View 10 Replies View RelatedSince I installed Windows XP Pro 64 bit, I seemingly randomly encounter a problem with the screen display. The computer will be functioning fine and then the screen will go black (the monitor is still on) for approximately a single second and then come back on. It does not happen every time I use the computer, but when it does occur, the only solution I have found is restarting the machine (sometimes I have to do this multiple times). I am quite sure the problem lies with Windows or with the drive Windows is installed on as I have Fedora 8 installed on another drive in the system, and it does not encounter this problem. Is anyone aware of a fix for this problem or perhaps a special driver/configuration mode I should acquire? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I see my XP boot up process (memory count, etc.) on the screen when I power on. Currently, I get a quick screen with F2 and DEL (system setup and boot order) and then on to the XP banner screen and login screen. I don't see the devices load or RAM count up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new here and I consider myself very knowledgeable on a computer but this one has me pulling my hair out. I have seen posts for similar situations but nothing identical to mine. What I have is a Dell E520 and we had a power serge and the computer shutoff. When the computer was turned back on it P.O.S.T. fine, loaded to splash screen and then once that is done loading I get a blank screen. Nothing. I reset go to safe mode, works fine, loads into safe mode. I try to load safe mode with networking, will not work. So I went back to safe mode and tried to do a system restore, told me it was disables and I would have to go back and enable it in regular mode.

All I get is an X where any picture is supposed to be. I have a laptop and a desktop both Dell and both running Windows XP SP2 and experiencing the same problem! use Netscape 7.0 and 8.0, IE 6.0 and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 and they are all acting the same way. This problem began about 4 days ago when a Microsoft automatic update was loaded onto both my systems. Once again, thank you in advance for your help! I found out that this site has some of the most knowledgeable and helpful people around.

View 9 Replies View RelatedDisplay screen is is tilted 90 degrees to the right, so instead of my screen showing horizontally it is displayed vertically. In other words, you have to set the flat monitor screen on its side to view your display. I ran Norton Antivirus and there were 5 items that I couldn't delete including TBPS.exe.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell E207WFP Flat Panel monitor on a Dell Dimension E520 computer with TONS of memory and which is about a year and a half old. It has been working absolutely fine until Sunday - my son left the computer on overnight, and when he went to turn it off the next morning there was a blue screen error but I couldn't read it because the letters were all jumbled. It's just a blank screen, and then the Auto-Detect comes on and puts it in power save.
I've been trying to troubleshoot from another computer, Dell's tech sites told me to check this and check that, but since I can't even get Windows to start up.
I'm wondering if as a starting point I should try to reinstall Windows? Or try to boot up from the disk?
bit past the right and bottom edges of the monitor screen. things like my Netscape and IE browsers don't seem to run over when maximized, and my toolbar seems ok as well. I'm running Windows XP on a Compaq Presario 5012US with a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 video card. The screen resolution I'm currently using is 800x600, and adjusting this setting up or down does nothing to fix the problem. I just updated the drivers for my video card, and windows is up to date as well. I'm totally stumped on this. Awhile back I was having bigger problems with my display when I was also running my TV as a second monitor,
I'm running a NEC MultiSync XV17 monitor also.
I'm trying to change my screen-saver, but I can't get into Display. I get a message
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that once the screen saver has been in use, on moving the mouse to resume Windows the screen goes black. Sometimes if the monitor automatically switches itself off the same effect is seen once the mouse is moved. At this point the LED status indicator flashes and activity on the hard disk but there can be 5 minutes or more before the display operates. Frequently the display will not operate and the only option is to restart the PC. The power management settings are for always on and the monitor is set for always on. There is no password requirement to resume from screen saver to Windows. I have checked the drivers for the monitor and they are current.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy vaio (2 x 1GB RAM) has an Intel i945PM Chipset which supports a max of 4GB RAM. But from what I've read only 3-3.5GB can be addressed. So I just bought a 2GB stick to replace one of my 1GB sticks. Current config is: 1x2GB and 1x1GB.After booting, BIOS displays the 3GB and a Linux boot-cd was able to test the whole 3GB as working. My problem is the following: XP boots but blacks out on the login UI! Safe Mode does the same thing. But the hard-drive keeps processing though. If I remove the 1x1GB stick, then booting is normal. How can I fix that login UI with the 3GB of RAM in place?

Horizontially, it displays a full screen since I checked the Full Screen mode in the PIF file parameters. I want to have the entire screen taken up by the display of the DOS program. Two other PCs (one a WIN98 PC and the other a WIN2K PC) display in a complete screen.

I'm having a problem with this computer that I removed a bunch of spyware and viruses from. Basically the issue is at the same point every time I attempt to install SP2 it blue screens on me. There are no errors in event viewer when I reboot for that exact time it blue screened. I'm wondering what could be causing this. I've already check and made sure it wasn't faulty ram. Any other ideas what may be causing this system to blue screen at the same exact point each and every time I try to install SP2? Only with
SP2, I can browse the net etc all the time without any issues.
Just wondering if anyone know a good doc/list/page listing all the shortcut keys default built into Windows XP? I tried looking it up in help, but it only gave a couple and by no means was all of them

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy friend installed a video game on his HP desktop (w/Windows XP) and changed the resolution settings to some odd selection that was 756x??? - something I had never seen before. Every time he loaded the game, it was illegible. In trying to change the display settings to make them compatible with the game, he chose this odd resolution (which was now available for some reason) for the desktop display settings, and now nothing can be read on the screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to solve a video issue on my friend's pc with windows xp home. He just bought a new video card (Ati 9550 256mb AGP) and he ended up disabling the old video card in device manager. Now, no matter if he installs the new or old card, the screen goes black right before it goes into the desktop. He can hear sound, such as the windows sound. He went into bios, but there's no video options, as this is a custom built PC. He tried to go into safe mode, but that doesn't work..same black screen.

View 1 Replies View Relatedxp boots past the login screen, but doesn't display any icons, taskbar or start button. On ctrl/alt/del and task manager - new task, I can run some apps. If I try to run explorer.exe I get 'cannot find....path not found...etc'.If I run cmd prompt, I can change to c:windows and dir for explorer - it's there but size is 1008640 bytes. I rename it to .old and run sfc which puts explorer.exe back - size 1004032 bytes. Now new task - explorer.exe loads my desktop icons, taskbar, and everything else. This is fine until I reboot, and then the problem recurs. Each time explorer.exe is replaced with the bigger file.
