I have a test for some reason this disk hard floppy wont work I went to start/run/A: 26 which is the command and even went to my computer-clicked on 3 1/2 floppy (A and tried that route but same thing. It opens up a window and when i click on the .EXE application it opens up DOS screen but then nothing appears ?? i tried it at work and it worked fine

I orginally bought the computer to surf and now I want start playing with it. I have windows 2000. I would like to copy some programs and I can't get the floppy disk A to work. What do I do next? If I purchase a new computer, I need certain files and programs without having to repurchase. I even thought I might be doing things wrong. Having never used the floppy this was my first time. When I click on send to I get a message saying insert floppy in to drive A with a cancel prompt in the right lower corner. When I put the disk in that nothing happens.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have this sony vaio laptop, and the good people at sony decided not to give this drive the ability to boot from a usb device (external dvd or floppy)Unfortunately the DVD drive that was built in BROKE, and I need to install windows on this laptop using a brand new hard drive.I can't boot from the windows dvd, I can't boot from a floppy, the drive is totally empty so I can't put anything on it.I CAN however, connect it to another computer and format it, I thought I could make it into a MSDOS bootable drive (like when you format a floppy) but windows does not allow it on a drive this size.

the guys here tell me to put the files of the 965_965L on the floopy without the foler imself. so in the 965_965L folder i have two files "SISRAID and "TXTSETUP.OEM" and aonter folder calld "raid" and in it i have to folders "winxp" and "win2000" and each folder has its own file. so what i do was to put only the "TXTSETUP.OEM" file on the floopy without noting else cause someone here tell me it all i need to do......
How do I reinstall Windows XP on my laptop (Compaq V5000 - which is several years old)? The laptop's cd-rom is dead. There is no floppy disk drive. The hard drive has crashed. I have read on some websites that I can make a bootable usb drive. However, I have not been succesful in making a bootable USB thumb drive when the laptop's BIOS doesnt support a USB device to be bootable.The only thing I do have is my desktop computer (which is working fine) and a USB external case for the laptop internal hard drive.

It started with a trojan that got out of control, but someone had put an unlicenced version of XP on our system, so we never had SP2 which was not ideal. Once the system hung indefinitely, I reinstalled XP (licensed) in a separate directory and backed up all the user data ready to just wipe the slate clean as I'd read bad things about having the same OS on one partition.
Now I bit the bullet and did a "format c:" in the command line, then booted to the licenced XP Pro disc and tried to install... it said I already had a NTFS structure in place, but then failed to copy any files to it, and now fails to see the hard disk at all during install ("cannot find hard disk"). I think I need to hit f6 during the XP installation and throw some files from the A drive, but where do I get them? I have a motherboard CD that has no useful features unless your OS is active, and the website doesn't lead me very far. It is a Shuttle MK35N SktA VIA-KM266, 266FSB USB2 MicoATX (DDR) - if that means anything to anyone?! I think BIOS sees it on startup, but doesn't connect to it. There's a bit of text top left with a model number, anyway...
I recently acquired a 64-bit processor, so I decided to try out the 64-bit version of Windows. I backed up everything on C: and moved it to G:. Then I deleted the C: partition and installed Windows XP 64-bit version on that partition. Then I decided that I really didn't like it, so I ran the Windows Setup disk and deleted the C: partition, created it again, and voila! No more XP 64. Then I tried to boot back into my original version of XP Pro and it gave me the "NTLDR is missing" error. Reloaded XP 64 on the C: partition, copied NTLDR from the XP cd over to my D: drive, deleted the C: partition, and just left it alone this time. Now I get an error with something along the lines of "HARD DISK ERROR...Restart Computer".

View 7 Replies View RelatedMultiple computers blue screen on him lately. the 4th BSoD-laden computer, but it's got me and the Sys Admin pretty stumped, so maybe I can find an answer here. The computer is a CSI brand with AMD Athlon XP proc & Windows XP. The problem hdd is a WD 400, and we also have another working WD 400 in another computer that I'll mention later. Both have Windows XP Pro SP2 installed and were originally in separate computers (each was the only harddrive in its comp originally.
Trying to start a computer with the problem WD 400 alone results in a blue screen error right after the windows screen (if I remember correctly...it's not long after the hdd, etc is recognized anyways), and gives the STOP error 0x00000024, and mentions some problems with the NTFS. I found that the ..24 STOP error has to do with the NTFS.sys file, but that doesn't help me much. The computer does not let me do anything after this BSoD error, and upon restart, I just get the same error, no matter which Safe/etc mode I try...it doesnt load into any of the modes.

I have bought the current hard disk one month back due to failure of the previous one. Both are of Seagate. My PC stuck up suddenly while working with the noise from hard disk ( clicking noise ) When I restarts the PC the PC stops booting after the BIOS screen with the error messages like "unable to load OS" or "disk not found". If I remove and replace the hard disk connection, it works normally. But, the PC stuck up after 1 day or after few hours. I have performed the hard disk self tests with Seatools software from Seagate.
I have a Sony VGN-T1XP Vaio laptop with an Intel Pentium M Processor running XP Pro SP2. For some reason the two USB ports have stopped working and no USB devices are recognised. I have previously used a USB card reader and external hard drive on both ports without any problems but now when I connect any device nothing at all happens.
Every time I try to install Windows XP from the CD onto my friend's computer, I get to the blue screen where you're able to format/partition the hard drive and then his keyboard stops working. I don't know how to get around this because I can't continue the installation w/o the use of the keyboard. Unfortunatly, he has Windows ME on his computer right now so this issue needs to be resolved.

When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally. Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored. Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHelping a friend with his computer (Gateway w/XP Home SP2) and discovered his floppy drive does not detect the floppy disk when it is inserted. I was attempting to created Ghost images from the floppy and it would boot into the OS instead of the bootable floppy. Checked BIOS and boot sequence was correct (2nd boot device). Tried 3 different disks still no joy. Clicked on A:/ drive in Windows Explorer (with floppy disk inserted) and got "Device not accessible". Checked floppy drive properties in Device Manager and it says device is operating normally.
I have not yet opened the tower to check connections, but to date the tower has never been opened since the computer was purchased a couple of years ago. I do not know whether the floppy has ever been actually used. My friend doesn't remember ever using it.Checked the bootable floppy in my computer and it worked just fine.
I need to do a fresh install of Win XP SP3 (OEM) from a bootfloppy as I cannot access the CD. I tried the SP2 boot floppy install downloaded from MS. Didn't work. Are there any options to accomplish this? I also have another drive with Win 98 on it, but can't see the CD there as well.

For this reason I need to test with a different floppy driver.But to find it on any site of the web has been impossible for me. Does anybody knows exactly where to find it ?

I had four files on my 98 that I wanted to keep before I got rid of it, so I saved the files onto a floppy (the internet wasn't working on the 98). I have an XP that has a floppy drive, so I thought it would be fine.Some of the four files are rtf (WordPad) or doc.When I inserted the floppy, "A:" showed up, and the first two files transferred over to my desktop fine. As for the last two, when I double-click or try to open it in a window comes up, a different message pops up each time. One time it said, "The disk in drive A is not formatted. Would you like to format it now?" When I tried to open one of the rtf files in WordPad, it said that it couldn't open Word 6.0 files.

The other drive while I know it is a dvd drive and I am thinking that this will be a burner drive. When I go to my computer I can only see the d:drive a:drive and c:drive should'ent there be an e:drive here as well: When I try to burn something using nero or roxio I am asked to put a disk in the d:drive should'ent this be the e:drive as thats what I think is the burning drive

I have an external USB CD-ROM and Floppy, but there are only 2 USB ports, and no PS/2 keyboard slot, so I've had to use a USB keyboard. Despite the BIOS being compatible with booting through USB, it doesn't recognise the CD-ROM, but it does recognise the Floppy. I tried using a bootable floppy with the I386 folder from the install CD copied to the Hard Drive (formatted as FAT32), but when I run WINNT.exe then try to change over the Floppy drive for the CD-ROM, it can't find the CD-ROM drive.

Recently the computer has been trying to access my floppy drive both on boot up and when I shut down. There is no disk in the drive. The computer also gives no errors. It never used to do that. My concern is that something is set up incorrectly, in addition to it being annoying.I am contemplating formatting my HD and starting from scratch. View 1 Replies View RelatedI assumed when I bought my second Dell, I could just take my old floppy drive and slave drive from my old one & put it in the new one. However, the new computer won't recognize the floppy and the inputs on the back of the drive in the new computer are totally different than both drives in my old one. The drive I want to install is a Seagate Barracuda 120gb. It uses a 20 pin cable, but the drive (NCQ SATA)in the new computer has a much smaller cable input & I can't figure out how to install it. Any input? On a separate note, is there any way to connect two computers, such as with a serial cable, to read the drives on the second one (without using a router).
I have a question about being able to restore data using the Windows Backup program in XP WITHOUT making an ASR floppy. (I apologize for not having any more details about the system. I don't own the system and don't have access to it right now.) I chose the 3rd option, to backup "All information on this computer," and backing up to an external HD took about an hour. However, I'm not familiar with the program and didn't know that I would need a floppy disk after the backup. I didn't have access to one and therefore had to cancel that part of the backup.If the system's internal HD fails and loses all its data, will the external HD be able to restore everything even though I never created an ASR floppy? (i.e. will I be able to create a working ASR floppy somehow even if the system's own internal HD is dead?)I should note that I'm referring to personal data files (MS Office documents, pictures, etc.), NOT application files. I've tried to find the answer on this forum and other sites, but this specific question did not seem to be addressed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with windows xp on a laptop with preinstalled vista that has no floppy drive, the error "It doesn't detect the SATA HDD"; I tried the solution with a usb floppy drive and pressing f6, I found the correct driver and it works fine, I`m able to partition the HD and the process continues until it asks for the driver again but the USB floppy drive doesn't wortk in that part of the installation.
The next solution I found of this forum was making a custom XP CD including the SATA drivers with NLITE software, incredible software, without pressing f6 the HD is detected and again I'm able to partition and the installation begins, almost success!! but ... when it reboots to continue the installation it does't detect the HD again a lecture error displays and the classic press ctrl+alt+del to reboot!!! Am I missing something?
Do any one of several things. Access my external drive, the floppy does a disc check for several seconds, right click explore a partition or folder and frequently yhe same thing happens. Put in audio cd to auto run, first the floppy has to do its chugga bugga chugga sound then the cd plays. Started over a week ago, or about when I formatted a floppy to make new Partition Magic emerg. discs. I rememeber something like this on a Win98SE machine a very long time ago. Tried some searches with not much luck, tried uninstalling in safe mode and rebooting, no joy.
