I'm the only person who uses my PC and having two "My Documents" folders and subfolders is confusing. So should I only use the one associated with "user" or the one that's directly off the C drive? Getting rid of one of the "My Documents" folders is either impossible or would cause big problems - right? (XP Home Edition)
View 3 RepliesI was trying to restric the access of the power users to certain folders and I deleted the groups and users by mistake that could have access. I add the administrator group to get access to the drive and folders, but windows doesn't propagate the permissions to the subfolders and files. Windows let me do it folder by folder, and file by file, but it will take forever taking into consideration that that partition of the drive has 40GB of informations and houndreds of folders and subfolders. Does some body know the way to propagate the permissions to all the subfolders and files?

I have the events setup as the subfolders names. I do not like to use Folder Task to set my view settings, and instead of changing the view settings one by one in each of the subfolder, is there a fast way so that I can apply the same folder settings to all my subfolders in "My Pictures/Digital Camera" without changing other folder's view settings?

I have noticed in various other places on my PC that certain random folders also display an album cover.why is this, i have tried to select the restore to default but it seems to not wipe the folders clean. i hope this makes sense, its kinda annoying me that this is happening.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI went into Folder Options > File Types > Found the folder one, went on its properties and changed the icon, clicked ok, blah blah. However, now whenever I open a folder, it instead opens the default "Search" thing.
So I went into Folder Options > File Types > Found the folder one, went on its properties and added a new thing called "open", to open with "explorer.exe".
Now the folder opens, however when I double click a folder within that,rather than it opening in the same window, it opens in a new window!!
And no, this is not the setting in Folder Options that selects between the two. It is alerady set to open in same window. I've gone through all the other settings in Folder Options.
I've literally just started having problems with my computer. Sporadically I have lost the ability to right-click, sometimes whenever I do so on either a folder or on an application, no little menu comes up
Also, when browsing through folders, the loading starts to become very slow and sometimes the blue menu at the side of the window isn't there at all. When I click on images to preview, or folders to open, sometimes nothing happens at all and the window just remains the same.
ALSO whilst trying to open some applications I get the error pop-up sound, but no error message box comes up to tell me what the error is. It just makes the noise, and I close the half-loaded application without it crashing (This happened with Photoshop, Adaware, Outlook Express, and once with Sonic RecordNow - all started loading, the error noise was heard, and the program left half loaded or missing parts) I've tried again and it seems it's all hit and miss like the other symptoms...sometimes i'll be able to right-click normally, sometimes i'll be able to browse files normally, sometimes programs will load, but the problem still (at random moments, it seems) arises again.
When Alt Ctrl Delete -ing, either nothing comes up and an error noise is heard, or the little window with the information does come up, but the desktop behind it flickers as if constantly reloading very fast.
The only error sound in which a box popped up, was one telling me "xvidcore.dll was not found". I clicked OK and everything reloaded as if windows explorer had crashed (the start bar, desktop etc).
I haven't done anything as of now, too scared to restart, or try and open any applications it might not like. I can't be exactly sure when I started to have problems, as I leave the computer on for days at a time sometimes (it's been running for about four days this time, about three days is normally the maximum) because I use BitTorrent a lot seeding and downloading.
it asked me to make a new folder thats wasnts c:windows. so i did and its xp. i started up computer and none of my old files are on desktop, toolbar etc. but they are there on ym computer. how can i restore these to how they were? and install all my programs again?
View 1 Replies View Related2 days ago, I used add/remove programs then Norton Removal Tool to remove Norton AV, and replaced it with AVG Free. My PC seemed to work fine until yesterday: upon booting, AVG automatically tried to update and ended up reporting "something bad happened..."; Not sure if AVG issue is relevant but now I CANNOT OPEN FOLDERS or APPS!
Now about 9 times out of 10, when I try to open a file or app, the screen icons and background pic disappear momentarily, and nothing opens. If I manage to open a folder, it seems my PC hangs up similarly at the following task (sometimes I get my RCA Lyra icon suddenly showing up in the toolbar). BTW I experienced the exact same problem a couple of times before the AVG install but rebooting would always fix the issue. Not anymore! It took many reboots but I was able to get AdAware to run - found nothing - and Maintenance Mechanic 6 - showed PC Repair is needed but hangs once it gets to reading the disk index. I tried deleting Lyra, but it won't let me (hangs once I manage to open the add/remove program page).
I want to see my hidden files in my computer but i cant make it happen i tried go to folder options/view/show hidden folders i apply and the ok but it doesnt work i go abck there and the do not show is thicked I am runing xps2 , is just reformated computer

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have 450 gb of music files but my problem is that having been infected by a virus, most of the folder were hidden and i can only accesss after unhiding them from Tools menu, folder options, go under view then i show hidden files and folders first, then i have to go to the second option of unticking the hide protected operating system files(Recommended)i have tried to deactivate them by right clicking a folder, go to attribute in properties in order to deactive the hidden but unfortunately it is faint not active but with a tick i cant deactivate it. i have also tried attrib command in DOS PROMPT -s -h to deactivate but some folders are not shown. i have also formated drive C: and installed windows xp pro three times but still the same problem.

Each subfolder had multiple files in them. When I went to access one, ALL of the SUBFOLDERS and ALL of the FILES were gone. I tried a system restore, and it brought back the subfolders, but not the files. I then tried TuneUp, CleanUP, HijackThis, Ewido, Micrsoft Antispyware, Lavasoft, and many other programs to bring back the files, but nothing can find them. I also have a updated McAfee constantly running, and there was never a virus.
