in add remove programs on the left tab add remove windows components, i choose fax services and click next it starts going then says cannot copy the file there are lots of files it has trouble with, in the copy files from box what should it read???

When I try to copy/paste files and folders in windows XP explorer (or in the desktop or a program's dialog box), windows wants to re-install one of the programs I have already installed on my computer or that I installed once upon a time.
Currently this is happening with Roxio Easy media Creator 7, but in the past it has happened with many other programs, such as MS Office, Roxio and some other shareware programs.
When I try to open one of My Folders (One that I added to my desktop with application I added to it) with a double left click a search results window opens instead of the folder opening and displaying the contents of the folder with things I've put into it. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). Any other folder including My Documnets folder will open the folder and display the contents correctly.At one time it used to work correcly and its not a major issue but I would sure like it fixed > Any ideas?

Everything went well as expected except for one thing.When I turn on my computer, the acer logo appears then a page appears again which asks me to choose whether to start windows xp or repair it using USB. I have to always click the start windows xp before the windows logo appears and everyhting in windows is alright. I dont know how to fix this so that after the acer logo appears, windows logo comes next then desktop.

What I want to do is create a .bat that will copy a file to several locations(all within the same folder, however with different names).
I have a folder that contains the master copy of my db and I want to run the batch file to update the users db files. The reason being is they each use thier own front end.
I usually backup my weeks work on Friday afternoons. What I do is run a "search" for all files created or modified within the last 7 days and then "copy" all relevant files to a folder on an external hard drive, and then burn a CD.
Everynow and then, I get the following message. "Cannot Copy File: Cannot Read From the Source File or Disk"
I do get the error-message, "while trying to finish a dowloald and after it reached 100% and tries to write the file on the harddrive"

Every time I right click on a file or shortcut, the Windows installer dialogue pops up with "preparing to install". I've spend hours cleaning off redundant files, running scans and generally cleaning up. I've reinstalled the Windows Installer, and run a repair install of XP home SP2, only to arrive at the conclusion that the installer was damaged by spyware at a point when it tried to uninstall a program which placed an entry on the right-click properties menu, and didn't uninstall it correctly. Now every time I right-click, the menu is referencing a registry value which prompts the Windows installer to start because it can't find the now-uninstalled program. Or that's my take on it.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm starting up Outlook 2003 for the first time on my son's computer we put a new hard drive into, the old HD is hooked up through USB to an external HD case.When Outlook starts it asks for a location of the .pst file and I direct it to the external HD (F drive) thinking it will automatically import the old 85 meg pst file so we can save all the old emails, contacts etc. Unfortunately what it did was create a new where I directed it deleting the old .pst file completely, AARRGGHH, My question is, is there any way to recover all the lost files? I checked the recycle bin, no luck and am currently doing a search of the (external) F drive looking for the file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI reecently installed Vista on my computer to try it out and after a few weeks wanted to change back to XP Pro as has some things i did not like.
Here's what i did:
1. I booted into BIOS and changed the bootup to cd/dvd.
2. Booted with my Original CP PRO cd (Not bought with my computer bought after).
3. followed the instructions and deleted the partition on C and formatted (Full not Quick) the C: drive with NTFS.
It gets to the stage that the SETUP is copying files and after 43% and says it cannot copy file WOWEB.exe and to press Esc to skip, F3 to QUIT and ENTER to try again.
It does this with a whole lot of files (Over 30) then after skipping thise files it reboots and gets the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!.
I have 2 DVD drives and tried both with the same result. I tried a differant Windows XP disk with the same results.
The motherboard has a backup facility which i had backed up previously with XP but not fully and can restore to that point but i want a complete reinstall.
I have formatted and installed windows XP with that disc loads of times without any problems before.
what should i do?
I am reformatting and reinstalling Windows XP Home in my dell inspiron 600m and I got the following error during the installation:

View 8 Replies View RelatedIn trying to copy a set of files that look to be in ascending sort order from a hard disk directory to a USB thumb drive, XP copies the last few, then starts at the beginning down to where it started. Eg. if in order as 01,02,03,04, 23,24 , XP will copy 23, 24, then 01,02,03 etc. until all the files are copied. This screws up any opportunity of getting these files in sequential order on the USB device. I tried copying this way, deleting the out of order ones and copying the rest in sequence only to have XP do the same thing. This file copy method must be a way of efficiently copying files but it sure messes up the order of files on the USB device.
View 10 Replies View RelatedHad to reformat my drive and now whenever i use my win xp sp2 install disc...i first format the drive and create the proper partition..the windows disc then starts copying files to the computer but at a point i get an error message saying that windows setup cannot copy the file...and it tells me which file. I redid this several times and each time at a some point in the copying it gives me this error...each time with a different file name
What should i do at this stage?
I've got a message popped up that says I need to install XP service pack 3.
I let it install, but it gets stcuk on the following error:

It gives the path for the file as:

I've checked in the path and the file definitely exists.
The message below the error says:

This message does not make much sense to me.

was Having music on it and wants it back. I hooked her HDD to my system using a USB2.0 box and have no problem accessing the drive or copying pictures to my system. If I try to copy music, I get Access Denied. I have file sharing enabled, have unchecked 'read only' in her files and still get the same message. I thought it might have something to do with them being iTunes, but I have tried Sound Taxi, Imgburn and a few others to copy or convert them and I get the same message.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Win XP Pro SP 3, I have a file that I periodically copy to several different computers on a LAN. The exact destinations of the file change occasionally and I want to minimize the amount of maintenance involved when there is a change.
In the folder containing the file I have a shortcut to each of the destination drives. When one of the destination folders changes I update the shortcut in that folder.
If I drag the file to each of the shortcuts using the right mouse button one of the options is to copy the file to the target of the shortcut, so one way to copy the file is to manually drag it to each shortcut. Is it possible to achieve similar functionality with a batch file? It is easy enough to write a batch file that copies the files to each destination by coding the destinations into the batch file but is it possible to use a batch file to copy the file to the target of each shortcut? I suspect that parsing the .lnk files is complex but I don't know if there is another way to do this.
