Exe Files Won't Run - In Folder Rundll.exe Is Present
Feb 17, 2005
I had a pretty weak virus on my computer named "pe_weird" I believe it was. Basically just an old backdoor virus that I had on a CD with an infected file that I burned a couple years ago. I went to trendmicro and cleaned everything that was infected and deleted some non-essential files, but somehow I think I "cleansed" a file needed to run windows.
Now whenever I click an EXE file, it comes up with the "Open with..." box. Any exe file does that. When I went into control panel to look for system restore (which I hope is the last thing I have to do), any item in control panel that I click pops up the error message "C:WindowsSystem32Rundll.exe -- Application not found". However, when I checked in that folder, Rundll.exe was present, 32.5kb filesize.

I know that this was discussed about six months ago. I dont quite remember the solution. When I attempt to delete multiple files, evertime I click a file for deletion it makes a copy of the file, so that when I delete the file the copy is still present. How can I prevent this in Windows XP Pro.

I am using Windows XP Professional on an IBM ThinkPad T 42.To clean up a folder a day or two ago I added a sub-folder and used drag and drop to put the 19 files in the primary folder into the subfolder. Today when I tried to open various files from the 19 I discovered that two of them would not open. The message I get when I click on the file icon is this: This file could not be found, followed by a couple of absurd recommendations for resolving the problem.

The registry on one of my computers is corrupt and if I try to copy the files from the WindowsRepair folder using the windows system repair tool, I'm told the files cannot be found. One possible solution I thought of is using the registry files from my other computer running Windows XP. I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is, how can I transfer the files. I would put them on a CD but the CD drive won't open when the system repair tool is running, and they're too big to fit on a floppy disk, even one at a time (the system and software files are both over 2mb.)

My friend is getting the above message when trying to boot up he has xp home. I cannot get into the bios or safe mode. There are 2 options press f1 to continue or del for setup neither works because the keyboard does not work. I have tried a keyboard that I know works and get the same message. His dvd rw drive is also not working but that is nothing to do with this problem its never worked for a while even before this problem. It is computer made by tiny which went out of business, he has a reload disc but with the drive not working cant use it. Unless I can get hold of my sons usb external rw drive which I will try to do tomorrow. I dont know if it will work though as the computer is not going very far into the post. I have to put the reload disc in whilst attempting to boot up. I am thinking this could be a hardware problem,He had problems with his ps/2 ports a while back so his keyboard is connected by a usb to ps/2 adapter.

We are using a LapTop with XP Home installed and SP2. I have been doing my best to clean a friends pc and speed things up. To date things have been going well and improvements have been noticeably made with the help of reading through several forums, sites and through my own experience. However, the issue I have at the moment is with several programs (which were pre-installed along with XP by the store who sold this Laptop) and in that there are NO uninstallers present. Not in Add/Remove, not in the Start-programs listing or in their respective folders. So, how does one remove these programs!? Some of these programs which I have seen at some sites as being recommended to have removed are `Sonic Update manager`, Sonic Record Now` and `Smart Hobby` etc. note: These programs and several others are not needed by the user of this pc.
I am under the impression that the only way to remove these programs is by deleting their respective folders and all traces within C drive and other drives (if utilised) and then editing the registry. Editng the registry is fine, though not all programs could be found there. Due to perhaps using different names in the reg as compared to their files in the folders. Also some reg files may be used with other software made by the same company but this I do not know. It becomes even more difficult as this pc is in another language in which I am not fluent. At all. I have seen snippets of information through this site surrounding my issue although nothing directly answered. Perhaps someone has an answer now that may help me solve this which would be great news.

i have just built a new system from some old parts of mine and some new ones which i bought, it boots fine etc. So i boot up my windows xp disc and it runs, i press enter for setup, f8 to accept agreement, then press c on the unpartitioned space to create a partition on my new hard disk, then it formats the disk, loads a load of files up and saves them, then it says that the 1st part of setup is complete and the computer will now reboot, after that setup is supposed to resume,
However it loops back to the start of the setup and i have to agree the EULA again and then if i select to install again on the now partitioned space it says i cannot create windows there as there is already a windows present, so i tried reformatting and creating a new partition and it comes up to the same part saying setup will resume after the reboot but it goes right back to the start again.

I started out with Windows XP home of my wifes computer. I got a Trojan that I could not get rid of so I scrubbed my hard drive and have upgraded to XP Pro. After having done that I no longer have any sound. I have scrubbed a few hard drives in my day and knew this would happen. So I went through the process of going to the companies website and did some looking for the drivers and found them. Downloaded them and said they couldn't find the sound card. I have an onboard sound card that came in our HP Pavilion a1050y. I believe the chipset to be Intel 915G, that is what the Intel chipset identifier told me no more than half an hour ago. But anyway, this has been going on for 2 days now. I have gone into the BIOS and enabled it and reset the settings and enabled it again. I have downloaded Drivers for 3 different Sound Cards that I was told it could be. I went on to HP's website and went through their instructions, and I have tried everything I can think of. The only other thing that I can see being a problem is that the Drivers CD doesn't seem to want to load, but I don't know what that would have to do with the my onboard sound not being recognized. I am to the point of getting ready to buy a new soundcard. I don't really know where to go.

Ever so recently, since a few days ago, I have started receiving 'RUNDLL' Errors as soon as I boot up, I'll be at the Windows Welcome screen when I hear that annoying 'BONG' sound that I got an error.
3 Errors Pop Up and I will list them here.
Name: C:WINDOWSConfigcsrss.exe
Description: Windows cannot find 'C:WINDOWSConfigcsrss.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again, to search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search. (It seems that it is an error after I SEARCH for a file, but I never did, it just comes up on start-up

it says there is no keyboard present and it won't boot up. I confirmed this.. it said keyboard error or no keyboard present. It was a USB keyboard. I tested that keyboard with this, our other computer, and it worked with this computer. I tried all 5 USB ports on Computer A, with no luck. The lights on the keyboard would not come on.
I went out and bought a keyboard with a PS/2 plug. The lights on this keyboard do light up. Now, the computer comes to the screen where it asks me to choose between Safe Mode and starting Windows normally, but it won't let me choose, or even press Enter. If I wait until it defaults to "Start Windows normally," it attempts to boot Windows but I get a blue screen saying that the BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant.

Dell computer from 2001. . I was on the regedit screen, and when I went into one of the HKEY_LocalMachine or one of those HKEY folders, the "Classes" folder got deleted. That's when everything kind of...messed up. Regedit stopped working (asked for an "appropriate program from the list" to use with it) and almost everything stopped, so I had to shut the computer down.
Now when I shut it down and tried to get back on, I couldn't get ANYTHING on the logon screen except a dinky little Windows logo, with no usernames, making it impossible to logon!
how the heck do I get back to the WIndows logon screen with the usernames back? Do I need a special CD I need to purchase, and is there anyway to get back the users without losing all my stuff? Please help.
you can post here to help or email me at kobetheman1212@gmail.com

I recently installed a CD drive and upon rebooting, the secondary drive (D), although recognized by the startup (BIOS), is no longer present when Windows finally opens. It's not present in the device manager and all shortcuts to it are null. All the bables are correctly installed and I've tried rebooting, re-installing the drive to no avail.

After booting up OK, any attempt to click on the Start button leads to a box appearing labelled RUNDLL. Within this box the letter 'r' is repeatedly and continuously printed. The box can be closed but the error recurs if the Start button is clicked again. At the same time there are intermittent 'bleeps' from the speakers, and clicking on ANY icon on the desktop opens only the recycle bin! If you try making a search with Google again the letter 'r' is repeatedly generated in the seach box.
Repeated scans with (updated) Norton Antivrus 2005 and with Ad-aware have not helped. Strangely, at some times the computer behaves completely normally.
