Erasing The Sound From The Alert Message?
Sep 11, 2005I am using the windows XP OS and each time some alert messages appear there is a sound.I have set my speakers setting to "no sound" mode. Still the sound appears.

Nov 26, 2008For some reason zonealarm gives me the following pop-up every time I boot up my computer : ZoneAlarm Security Alert/Server Program/ Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services is trying to act as a server. Identification: None Application: svchost.exe Source IP: 0.0.0.0:Port 135 I click : "remember this setting" [or I used to] and it does NOT remember - it comes up every time.I've tried rooting around in Zonealarm to figure out how to turn this off - no luck. Any ideas folks????

Nov 1, 2007I'm unable to format my C: drive after erasing it.I have a Dell XPS 2 with two 250GB hard drives. (Other specs are listed below.) I got it in 2003, I think. I want to sell it, so in preparation, I tried to clean and format the hard drives. I used Darik's Boot and Nuke to do the job. The cleaning went fine until the end, when I got a message saying the process was complete but there had been some non-fatal errors because of some bad sectors.I couldn't boot up the computer afterward, of course, because I forgot to make a boot up disk. I tried using the Windows XP installation CD, but all I got when restarting the computer was a "press F1 to retry, F2 to setup" message. I can enter the BIOS, and I put the CD-player at the top of the boot disk, but no good.Anyway, I got a boot disk and can now get to the A: prompt. I used FDISK to create 1 FAT32 primary DOS partition on each hard drive. After restarting, I then tried FORMAT, but after hitting "Y", I got this message: "Fatal error writing setting disk access flags...format terminated. Error Code: 05". I did a google search and found that other people have encountered that message, but unfortunately I didn't understand any of the details...
Also, after partitioning the hard drives, I now get this message when trying to boot from the CD (or just from the hard drive): "partition signature != 55AA".So, I'm at a loss. Because I don't have convenient access to a floppy drive, and because I'm not sure my CD drive is working correctly, I'm hoping someone might be able to suggest a solution that involves use of a USB flash drive. A google search showed me that such things were possible, but the solutions were a little beyond my tech skills.The only other piece of info I can offer is that attempting to DIR the C: drive gives me an "invalid media" message.

In system's hardware devices under Sound, Video and game controllers there is: Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture devices, Media Control devices, SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio with a yellow exclamation mark and Standard game port and Video Codecs. I have uninstalled the Soundmax three time and everytime I re-installed, I would get the yellow in a triangle and a warning saying it is corrupt.

So I replaced the CPU fan and the fan works good but now I get this error message when ever I turn my PC on. When I press the power button, I get the Dell logo and I get the Phoenix-Award BIOS screen with the error message "Alert: CPU fan not detected. Press F1 to continue,F2=SETUP,......". When I press F1 the system continues to boot fine and the Pc works fine. My CPU is cooling fine also.

Sep 12, 2010I definitley have some sort of virus on my computer and all sorts of pop ups keep coming up on my computer encouraging me to buy a program. I can't get to any other websites besides the one for this program as an alert pops up on the browser sayng my computer is infected. Also everytime I try to open a file a "Windows Security Alert" pops up and says that whatever file I sm trying to open is infected. This is a probloem because I have tried opening task manager, system configuration, and even using the run function wiuth different commands and nothing will open! I also tried downloaging Ad-aware on my external harddrive and then running it from there but it won't open either!

Dec 20, 2005My aunt got hit with the W32spybot.worm. Nortons keeps popin up alertin her to it but says it cant remove it. Ive pulled up the removal instrustions online. Problem is she is more or less computer illiterate and since she lives on the other side of the country from me I cant fix it myself. I would like to avoid having to walk her through the removal over the phone since it deals with the registry and random file names, it would make it a pain to find. May 14, 2010I was checking out a website online when a window with the Microsoft Windows Security logo popped up indicating infection with several types of Trojans/viruses. I did not make a note of them but the boxes all had green check marks against the purported trojans/viruses. I believe it instructed me to download something Instead, I immediately shut down my pc, and ran Scans in Safe Mode and also did an online scan with Trendmicro housecall. All the scans showed 0 infections. I am therefore wondering what this was all about as the Security alert had the exact logo as the Microsoft Windows Security.

Aug 7, 2009About 2 days ago, my computer started randomly turning off and on. I would enter my password and it would load windows and run fine. As of yesterday it shut itself down and after I entered my password, it would give me that message. I would choose "Run Windows normally" and it would go to the screen with the Windows logo with the loading bar underneath of it. The loading bar doesn't have the scrolling green light though, and it just sits there.
