Apr 25, 2008Is it out yet? If so, is it ok to D/L and install it or have other's decided to wait a while because some are having issues with it?

Jan 16, 2007I have windows xp and just downloaded service pack 2.Before this I ran with only 32 - 35 processes. After downloading I starting running 48 -51 processes and making my computer very slow.

Jan 2, 2008I installed XP SP3 and after the installation and a reboot I had lost my sound card + my VPN connection to the office no longer worked.
I could live without sound or could reinstall my sound card but the VPN connection to the office is critical to my daily work.

Jan 18, 2006Install Service Pack 2 on my PC and in the middle of the installation my power went out and now when I try to reinstall Service Pack 2 it goes about half way through the installation and fails and I receive an error message saying Access is denied
After that, the PC goes through the steps of uninstalling Service Pack 2 and I get a message saying the system might not work, but it does. How do I install Service Pack 2?

Jun 29, 2005I have searched this forum (and many others) for the answer to my problem but can't find one, just similar problems. I recently installed Service Pack 2 using a windows install cd (rather than just an upgrade patch). And now everytime i run windows i cannot open any folder or explorer window with out "explorer.exe" crashing. I have turned off DrWatson and now i just get a memory error everytime. I can not downgrade because i used a Windows Install CD (can't find an option anywhere to remove service pack 2 now). Please could someone help me because it is highly annoying.

However, when I try to update to Service Pack 3, I get an error halfway through that says "Acces Is Denied", and then it starts to undo everything the Service Pack was updating. I have tried downloading the service pack file from microsoft, rebooting and turning off all anti-virus. ect. I have seen methods that tell me to reset the registry and file permissions. Is this safe? And also, has anyone else had this problem and fixed it.

Sep 3, 2009My computer is Toshiba Satellite A215, with Windows XP home edition. I had Service Pack 2, but about a week ago, I updated to Service Pack 3. After installing Service Pack 3, the whole computer slowed down and started acting weird. The speaker started to make noise, it started to show error messages often, the internet does not work smoothly, spyware & virus search take 10 hour or more and never finish (it used to take only a few hours), etc.
So, I wanted to put the Service Pack 2 back to my computer. I tried uninstalling SP 3. But it failed uninstalling and I got a message says something like "couldn't uninstall SP3". I thought it might let me uninstall if I restart the computer and I tried to restart, and it never start again. This blue screen with a message, something like "autochk program not found-autochk skipped" comes up and then it goes back to the Windows LOGO screen and keeps doing the same thing. I read about some similar problems, and tried a few things, like starting with safe mode or last setting that worked, etc, but they do not seem to work....
Service Pack 2 / Computer Comes Out Of Stand By Local Area Connection
Jun 27, 2006I'm sure this is an old issue for some but it's new to me because I downloaded Service Pact 2 this weekend. I'm now noticing that sometimes when my computer comes out of stand by the local area connection symbol is disabled and I can't get it to enable. I've even gone into My Computer/ Network Connections/ Local Area Connection Properties window and tried to enable it but that won't work. I also tried to troubleshoot it, but that hung up, not even ctrl alt delete would shut it down so I pulled the plug. Can anyone tell me what's going on? I don't think it's a coincidence that it started after I got SP 2. I'm tempted to try and unistall it, but I've already seen some posts on the forum about possible negative consequences.

Dec 27, 2006Last week my wife downloaded some crap off the internet and netpumper came along. She installed it unknowningly and started all Italian p0rn pop-ups. I detected netpumper and immediately uninstalled it, removed few of the registry entries I found.Did some regular cleaning process like Spyware S&D, Ad-ware, AVG anti-spyware. Got a clean chit from these guys and alls wiped out. I then ran AVG and Avast anti virus to make sure no virus is sitting in my system. Alls clean again. Then ran CCcleaner to clean some crap left behind by the OS.Now, I thought, the threat is gone (because no pop-ups) but now the threat started showing up as very slowed down PC.
