I installed XP SP3 and after the installation and a reboot I had lost my sound card + my VPN connection to the office no longer worked.
I could live without sound or could reinstall my sound card but the VPN connection to the office is critical to my daily work.
I have windows xp and just downloaded service pack 2.Before this I ran with only 32 - 35 processes. After downloading I starting running 48 -51 processes and making my computer very slow.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if someone could help me with a little problem I have. When I install service pack 2 or anything past sp2, it does something with my video card. Normally everything runs fine until I try to play one of my PC games (for instance Half Life 2) then either the computer freezes up, or the monitor goes black and stops receiving a signal from the video card. I know that it's not a hardware issue because running off of a fresh windows install with no updates and sp1 everything's fine, but sp2 or later causes problems with my video card, I've tried updating everything (windows, hardware etc....) nothing works except running it with no updates and sp1, and as you know you cannot run much without sp2 at least. Any help would be appreciated, I've also attached a .txt with my specs from dxdiag.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I download service pack 2 I lose my task bar and icons. Internet explorer will not start. I tried to download off the computer and finally sent for disk. Nothing seems to work. I have a 64 bit computer but my XP home is a 32 bit. I tried to turn off all firewalls and Norton and nothing seems to work. Thinking of saving all files and starting over(re download XP). The only way I get everything back is to restore to the earlier time
View 9 Replies View RelatedI come home to visit my family for Christmas last night and use my old desktop. its working fine besides its a little slow. i figure its from my little sister downloading stuff. easily fixed problem. so i try to fix the problem by deleting things that were useless to her and i and were making the computer slow. i restart the computer and my windows xp theme has disappeared, there are no more network places or networks, for that matter, and i have no sound card now.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI started another thread a couple of days ago but have progressed a bit since then so thought i would start a fresh one.I have recently formatted my hard drive and lost drivers for my soundcard. I have been onto my motherboard manufacturers website and downloaded the appropriate driver. This worked (or so i thought) the ?Media Controller in device manager disappeared and my soundcard appeared. Media player plays CDs now, as do all my other sound related programs. The problem is i still can't hear any sound!

My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a refurbished computer from Fry's Electronics. It seemed like a very good deal, so I went ahead and took it along with others who were taking them.
I finally got my internet up and I began to play Counter-strike. The sound sometimes messes up. I can hear other peoples shots just fine, but when I shot, it is almost silent.
This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows. Could windows be preventing my audio card from working?
I did a reinstall of Windows XP and I can't get the sound to work. Here is the sound card:Sound Blaster Live! Platinum rev.5 CT4760P. My computer is upgraded and so it is a hybrid system. I downloaded the driver for Sound Blaster Live! from the website and it still has the same problem. To be sure there was no on board sound, I took out the card and the computer said I had no audio devices which means there isn't a on-board sound card.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got my updated Display driver no problem, but the Sound is another story. According to the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I was using a Crystal Audio Driver from Cirrus Logic. So, I Googled a newer version of the driver and found one. When I told it to install, nothing happened, so I thought, well, I'll just uninstall my first one and then install this new one and everything will work. After I uninstalled my previous driver, the new one still wouldn't install. So I tried to reinstall the driver. Then I downloaded a driver from the official Cirrus web site and every time I click the "install" button, a message always pops up saying "Driver didn't install correctly." It doesn't tell me why or how or ANYTHING. And now my computer has no sound! Whenever I check the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, it tells me, "No sound card was found."

View 6 Replies View RelatedI normally remove the updates/SPs from my Windows folder after a few days of running with the SP installed. All those packs can take up a ton of space. I move them to a separate folder for safe keeping for about a week, then, if all is well, I delete them. I don't think I've deleted the IE7 SP, but I don't know what the SP number is.
