I have the same problem. Should I just follow your instructions in this post, or was this dependent upon fantastipotamus's computer? I downloaded SmitFraudFix, here is the outcome after running number 1:SmitFraudFix v2.35 Scan done at 0:36:33.32, Thu 04/27/2006 Run from C:Documents and SettingsDanielDesktopSmitfraudFix OS: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

I have a user's My Documents folder redirected to a share on our domain controller. The name of this user's My Documents folder is username's Documents. Whenever I try to change this to My Documents, it immediately reverts back to username's Documents. However, if I open a command window and say dir, I see My Documents which is what I would expect.
I keep my docs and importante files on a hard drive separate from my C: hard drive where I have XP Pro SP2 installed. On my second hard drive (E I have a folder called My Documents. I know that the normal My Documents link in explorer is some kind of dynamic link because it points to Document and Settings user My Documents.is it possible to change the path that the explorer My Documents use to point somewehre different than the Docs and Settings path.
Im using XP and the classic start menu. I like how under documents I can view my documents but I dont like how it shows recently used documents. How can I make it so that it does not show this.
im using winXP i go to desktop and double click "My Computer" in my computer i see: Shared Documents pc1's Documents (Local Disk C:) (Local Disk D:) i have already manage to change the target folder location of "My Documents" (c:Documents and Settingspc1My Documents) --> (d:Documents and Settingspc1My Documents) now the problem is; i want to change the target folder location of "Shared Documents" from(c:Documents and SettingsAll Users.WINXPDocuments) (d:Documents and SettingsAll Users.WINXPDocuments)
has a Works name and address list that needs to be converted to MS Word name and address list. And he needs to print labels from the Word list. how to convert the Works data to Word data.
All the 'My Documents' folders for all users display as 'My Documents' rather than '<User> Documents' in My Computer, so it is hard to distinguish between them. Is there anyway to change them so only the current user's are displayed as 'My Documents?
For some reason, my "shared documents" folder in "my computer" is now called "Documents." Although I am the administrator of this computer, I am unable to access "Documents," (I get this error message: "C: Documents and Settings All users Documents is not accessible. Access is denied" )and furthermore I am unable to change the folder's setting in "sharing and security" to "share" this folder. Additionally, I am blocked from access to the Shared Music and Shared Picture Samples that come installed on XP Pro. Please tell me how I can restore this folder to its original capacity as a "shared documents" folder. I am currently unable to set any of my folders to be shared. I am using XP Pro.
I have lost all of my files within My Documents. All the folders remain, but all of the actual files are missing. No system changes have been made, nothing new was installed. I have run virus scans (I'm using SymantecAV Corporate) AdAware, Spybot S&D with nothing found.
They're still there somewhere, as the user folder properties show the correct size for the folder and number of documents, but not initially - right clicking on the folder to display properties shows a small number at first and then it gradually counts up. Properties for My Documents shows a small number of folders, all empty.
When I try to view documents in My Documents, I get the message that explorer must close down and sorry for the inconvenience. What could be causing this, and how can I cure it.
Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers (More info?) I downloaded XP twice when I first set up my laptop. I just left it that way for years but now I am having problems with one of the copies and would like to remove it from my system. Does anyone have the fix? Needless to say I'm not real computer savvy.
I can't see my downloaded files. If I download a file and select a location too, then after the download is finished I can't see it in that folder. Actually I can see hidden files and so, but my downloaded file I can't. Where can I turn off this behaviour, so that i see those files??? win xp sp2
Since upgrading my computer and reinstalling Windows XP Home with all upgrades, I haven't been able to run executable downloaded files (most recently openoffice but also Google Earth Pro trial). The files download properly but when I try to run them them, I get the message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." I'm using IE beta 7 but have tried the same process using Firefox. All Windows Updates are complete. Running Norton AV 2003 and NVidia firewall set to Antihacking only.
Downloaded the Belarc Advisor PC Analysis software; saved to C drive, but when I Run the application file I receive an error message with a big red circle with a white X in the middle with the following message: "C: advisor.exe is not a vlid Win 32 application".What is this? How can I get the file to run or for that matter any file to run that I download?

Some how I have downloaded a tool bar. It is at the bottom of my screen at all times, even when I am viewing pictures. It just wont it to go. How can I get rid of it . Can any one help please It has a search box, which takes me to a search web site but when I close the site down the tool bar is still there.
When I download files using ie the download window indicates the files are downloaded but they are not there. I've been able to see the files being deleted instantaneously after being downloaded.
When I try to download a file from the Internet, I get a box sasying "Run/Open", "Save", and "Cancel" as always. When I click on either of the first two options, however, the box simply clicks and unclicks with no actions following it. Almost as if you click "Post" in a forum, but you hold the click on it and move the cursor elsewhere, stopping the system from performing that action. On some days, I can get my system to download about 5 files before I can no longer click "Save" or "Open".
I run Firefox 3.0.3 under Windows XP SP2 Home. I have downloaded, a new batch of .jpg files from a trustworthy site that I have been using without any problem for a couple of years. With the latest batch of files I find that whenever I try to open any one with PaintShop Pro, I get an Open File - Security Warning asking me if I really want to open it from an unknown publisher.
If I check the file's properties, I find it is blocked. I can unblock each file individually, either by changing the property or by checking an option on the Security Warning.
I can see no reason for this happening suddenly. I have found various possible solutions proposed (but for slightly different environments or file-types), but they do not work for me. Is there any really proven solution for either preventing the blocking in the first place or removing the block en block?
When I download a file in XP, I can't open it until the download's complete. In what temp directory is the file being saved, so that I can see the progress through windows explorer?
I have a Sony VAIO pc with Win Xp media center 2005. I am trying to download updates on the VAIO . I download the files and save them into a folder called " updates". When i open the folder and open one of the files , all I get is a bunch of gibberish letters and squares.
I recently downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver; a 30-day trial. I worked on it a little, then left it alone for a couple of days. Now, when i try to find it, I can't. Searches turn up file folders of several types, but nothing that will allow me to run the program.
Where is it???!!! Why won't a search turn up something...an .EXE file or whatever, that will allow me to access the program. It's hiding somewhere and I can't figure out how to find it. it's far from the thirty days...maybe 10, if that.
Trying to download it again from the site doesn't work; they say that my email is already in use, so they are preventing me from downloading it again. I know I can try to contact them next week, but does anybody have a clue on this?
When I downloaded Internet Explorer 7, I lost my tool bar across the top and I do not know where to access it. Also, I do not know where to go to ask help for Internet Explorer 7.
I started having a strange problem happening. Upon windows 2000 start up, a DOS window opens saying that it is an instance of svchost.exe running. Now I know this has to run but this is the first time that it ever opened a window when doing it. So I figured something in the registry got whacked. So I downloaded spybot and ran it. It found 153 things that I certainly didn't want running on my computer. I had spybot delete them all. I then restarted my PC. The DOS window still pops up on startup. I then looked at my start menu to see if something got added there that is starting this up on start up. Nothing. I then manually checked the register against another computer that I have that doesn't have the same problem. All instances of any calls to svchost.exe on both computers appear to be the same
Where do the XP updates (auto) go when they're downloaded ?
My PC told me there were some updates ready but when I was downloading them I had a power cut....
now it still says there are updates ready but it zips past the download stage (having recognised the files already exist) and goes straight into the installing stage but it always fails.
I suspect my original download has been corrupted by the power cut. I need to know where these downloaded updates get stored, so I can delete the file and start again.
