Aug 14, 2006A few days a ago I got a trojan dropper and it changed some of my dll's. Should I download uninfected copies of the dll's to enusre security?

Cant Download The Security Updates
Mar 21, 2006After sourcing the net for a solution to the problem of my computer not being able to download from the Microsoft Website the security updates and updates for Windows Defender I found the following.

Try To Download Something / Security Settings Won't Allow It
Nov 15, 2006Whenever I try to download something (example - the latest version of Acrobat Reader). I get a warning that says my Security Settings won't allow it. To my knowledge, nothing has been changed, and this has only been happening since I downloaded all of the latest Windows updates. I have no idea if this is related or how to fix this problem. Can someone give me a clue on what to do?

Method #1
1. To lower the security setting in Internet Explorer:
2. In the browser's Tools menu, select Internet Options.
3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab.
4. In the "Select a Web content zone" control, click the Internet icon.
5. In the "Security level for this zone" area, reset security to Medium.
6. Click OK.
Method #2
1. Select Tools Menu from Tool Bar
2. Select Internet Options
3. Select Security tab
4. Select Custom Level button
5. Scroll down to Downloads
6. Under File Downloads - If the File Downloads is not disabled you will not be able to download files.
To enable file downloads check the enable option. My only other option is mucking around with registry keys, which being a puter dunce and haven't a clue about anything like that, I'm not going to attempt.Is there ANYTHING else I can try (nice easy steps) that it going to allow me download stuff that I want from the internet.

Apr 18, 2005A recent MS security download- KB888302 - will not install. I have tried several times without success. Other recent downloads from MS installed just fine. Is there a solution to this vexing problem?

Jul 26, 2008All of a sudden I can not download any programs, music files etc. I just get the above message in my Mozilla Firefox download screen. The same thing happened when I tried Internet Explorer.
I am running Windows XP and using Firefox 3.0.1. The problem is that Download blocked by Security Zone Policy, I have gone into the Internet section of control panel and reduced the zone protection to the minimum. I have turned the firewall in McAfee off. These actions did not have any effect. I am not aware of any other program on my computer that would cause this to happen. I use Sypware Doctor, but I disabled that also. My computer is set to load Windows updates automatically and that would be the only software updated I might have loaded.

Mar 21, 2010I recently FUBARed my main instalation of windows XP on my only computer. Basically the only thing that works is internet explorer and file explorer. All other applications say "the application failed to start because the settings are wrong or some bs..." which means I corrupted a lot of .dll files I shouldnt have. I need to burn stuff to DVDs so that I can format and reinstall windows again, the only problem is that no burning software will run, and XP pro doesn't support burning DVDs by itself (as far as I know, I cant get it to do it.) I can't install any new software because the installation program shows the same error. I have plenty of room on my hard drive, a good 200GB. I want to install another copy of windows onto the same partition so I can install dvd burning software and save all my stuff( I cant make another partition of free space without deleting all data on the old one AFAIK) From what I've researched I think that windows will add a .0 to the end of all system folders and files when you install 2 copies on 1 partition (windows.0, documents and settings.0, program files.0 etc...) I could then choose to boot the good copy, install the dvd software, navigate over to my old stuff and burn it, then format and install clean.
Ive done this before when I was like 12 on accident because windows xp kept locking me out after the 30 days needed to activate. I ended up with like 6 copies of xp on 1 partition that ran fine untill I ran out of HDD space, but I dont remember how exactly it did it and if it overwrote anything. I honestly had no idea WTH i was doing I do remember I had options right after POST that asked which copy I wanted, and thats what I need. I just want to make sure I can do the same again without overwriteing anything or deleting anything. Also, I dont want to get a error saying I dont have permission to access the my documents folder. I think I remember that being a problem, that I couldnt get to my documents folder on 1 instilation of xp from another instalation without getting a permissions error. I really REALLY need to save all this stuff so if anyone knows if this would work or has a better idea please speak up!

What happens is when I close out of programs, I see in the taskmaster that my cpu usage goes up to 100%, and it appears that a copy of this process is the one taking up the most even those as simple as notepad.exe or calculator.exe. Getting Security Warnings That My Security Settings Has Blocked?
Feb 13, 2009I haven't been to this site for a while and I noticed I'm getting Security Warnings that my security settings has blocked of an ActiveX install. I know how to change those settings, but am reluctant to do so. Can anyone shed some light on this. I occasionally will get similar warnings on other sites, but it is consistant on this one. Once in a while IE6 will hang up on this and I'll have to got to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it.
